  1. Lithium: Increases Sanity when you tap it, decreases when you store it. Interferes with spiritual and cognitive powers like spiritual adhesion. When burned, allows for limited force field use with a burn time similar to that of Bendalloy. This is effectively concentrating available investure in an area to produce a shardblade like shield

    Alithium: Stores gravitational attraction, similar to Iron, but you still have the same mass. When tapped, it can grant flight with the right trick (similar to the trick used to allow A-bronze to sense feruchemy and other investure. When burned, it allows you to disperse investure in a localized area. Can be used to dispel shardblades, lashings, empty metalminds, remove breath from an object, and destroy Aons.

  2. "Life Before Death, Strength Before Weakness, Journey Before Destination" This quote (and Teft's explanation for its meaning) has make me think about my actions so many times.

    "It lets me add two and two and get a pickle"  - Wayne

    “Actually, [Wax] said, we came here because we needed someplace safe to think for a few hours."
    Ranette: "Your mansion isn't safe?"
    Wax: "My butler failed to poison me, then tried to shoot me, then set off an explosive in my study"
    Ranette: "Huh.... You need to screen these people better, Wax.”

    Let's say the sword is about 2kg, with a length of 10m, and the grip is 0.2m long.  So you have a 2kg weight 5m away on one side and an Xkg weight 0.1m on the other.  To make them balance, you'd need a 100kg (220lb) pommel.  Not very feasible.

    I was thinking something about 2-3 meters long, not something as long as a school bus, also, you have to factor in the force exerted by the hand on the sword grip, the pommel, and that the weight of the blade is going to be at the center of mass of the blade, not at the tip. The weight of the blade is actually distributed across the length, but lets make this easy.

    I had a drawing but I cant get it to work. B is the balance point, O is pommel, H is hand, M is center of force on the blade.

    B->M=1.5 m

    B->O=.5 m

    B->H=.2 m

    M=2N

    H= -3N

    O=?

    Moment = 0, (2*1.5)+(-3*.2)+(O*.5)=0

    O=.6 N

    I completely forgot about that.  Even if it was the same wieght as a normal sized shardblade it would apply more torque so you would need a lot of leverage. My mistake.

    Just balance it, apply a equal moment to each end with the hand being the point of rotation. A very long and very thin blade with a short and heavy pommel.

    14. the Knights Radiant were formally organized by Ishar and the Heralds became the begrudging patrons for the 10 orders.

    15. the Knight Radiant would discover the truth that the humans were the invaders and the Singers were the Original inhabitants and fear their powers could destroy Roshar just like their Ancestors destroyed Ashyn but Honor would console them and encourage them thus keeping them in line.

    16. the False desolation happens were Odium and Heralds were still sealed on Braize, but Ba-ado-mishram started providing voidlight and forms of power before being sealed by a strike team of Radiants.

    17. Honer getting weaker and starts dying. This is likely due to Odium attacking Honor or the oath pact breaking so much. Probably both.

    18. the Day of Recreance happens once the Knights Radiant once again discover the truth of their alien origins, but Honor is raving mad instead of helping them understand or encouraging them.

    19. the "Final" Desolation occurs were the 9 Heralds who Miraculously survived this time decide leave Taln to suffer alone for 4000+ years since he was the only one of them to never break once.

    20. Honor fully dies (could be before the "final" desolation or after we dont know for sure)

    The actual order of events is 14, 19, 17, 15/16, 18, 20. The Heralds had been gone for about two thousand years before the False Desolation and The Day of Recreance. We are not exactly sure when Honor croaked, but given Dalinar's visions, it is likely that he died completely after or during The Day of Recreance.

    I think guns would actually work, well, cannons. Someone would have to invent or discover gunpowder though. That will likely have to be an offworld import though, at least until a soulcaster understands the properties enough to mass produce it. I don't see many native bats on Roshar.

    Bird poop works too. If they can figure out electricity, they can make a Ozone generator which will produce Nitric acid as a biproduct which can be used in the manufacture of nitrocellulose (smokeless powder).

    Which, good luck staying out of range of someone with enhanced mobility and speed. Also, if slamming the armor with hundreds of low energy projectiles worked, then we would know, as shardbearers are mentioned as running into storms of arrows and all they need to do is cover their eye slits. I assume if nothing else, the fact shardplate can repair itself severely limited the effect of repeated low damage blows.

    Arrows are not the best choice, a cannon full of grape shot is. Just keep firing until to see cracks, then use shardbows to hit the weak spots.

    Also, the goal is to wear out the stormlight available for self-repair, hence death by a thousand cuts (or impacts).

  9. Death by a thousand cuts. Use slings, bows, crossbows, and guns to pelt the shardbearer with a bunch of high energy projectiles until their plate either cracks or runs out of stormlight. Unless you are a shardbearer your self, the best option is to buy time and wear out the shardbearer with out getting too close. Try and pin them down so that more of the shots hit the armor.

    Returning to the main discussion, it seems like the logistics of moving large quantities of objects around through the cognitive realm would be expensive and/or messy. Just because we invented airplanes doesn't mean it's always cost-effective to abruptly using cargo liners to ship all our tons and tons of cargo.

    There might be a physical limit to how much material you can push through a perpendiculary at a time before something bad happens. That might be why they start developing FTL, maybe one of the perpendicularys gets shutdown for a long period of time and they have to build ships to go off world.

  11. I have a pet theory that the Ardentia will excommunicate any Ardent who becomes a Radiant. One of their main shticks is calling the Radiants evil. They begrudgingly accepted Dalinar and the rest of the Radiants but then turned on them. I think we will see this get worse as the Vorin church falls more and more into the grasp of Odium. They will either become spies, start an inquisition, or banish any Radiants they find.

    I take offense at speculation.

    If I’m wrong about the Alcubierre drive, I will actually eat my hat. You can quote me on that.

    Given that external temporal allomancy is really just stretching and contracting spacetime, I think that you will avoid having to eat your hat.

    Can we just talk for a moment about how OP Kelsier would be as a Radiant?

    Well, he could in theory hack his Surges with Nicrosil, since we know that can store Surges. If he was an Elsecaller, then he could not only open full perpendicularies, but also transform entire continents given enough time.

  14. 2 hours ago, Oltux72 said:

    Yes, but Kelsier is very much of the school that in order to make omlettes you got to break some eggs. In some respects he is Jasnah and Dalinar rather than Lift or Kaladin.

    I concur. Kel is willing to spend months or even years planning things and has no problem killing anyone who gets in his way. We know that Ink Spren are drawn to people who plan, not just scholars. Ivory bonded Jasnah, who is a very cunning, backstabby, lets commit genocide type person. If they are willing to bond the Queen of Alethikar, they should be willing to bond the Survivor of Hathsin.

    Kaladin will forgive himself, learn how to be happy, find himself a girlfriend, and get a happy ending.

    Shallan will forgive herself, overcome all inner struggles and get a happy ending.

    Adolin will revive the sword, become an Edgedancer, and get a happy ending.

    Adolin and Shallan will have 10 children with rainbow hair color.

    Szeth will kill that evil Herald, and become a leader of Skybreakers instead of him. He will learn how to make own decisions and how to be free. He will get a happy ending.

    Venli will reject Odium and lead Listeners against him. She will be their new leader once the war will be over. She will get a happy ending.

    Taln will be sane again. He will get a happy ending.

    Renarin will find the strength, become a full Radiant, save his spren from Odium's corruption, and get a happy ending.

    Odium will be destroyed. Big victory and happy ending for everyone.

    Humans and Listeners will become allies. All of them, and spren, will live together in Urithiru like a giant family, dance and sing happy songs.

    Dalinar will die and be forgotten just like all dead characters in Sanderson's books are forgotten by everyone on the next page after their deaths.

    All cosmere spoilers:

    Spoiler

    This may not be Game of Thrones, but Sanderson has a habit of killing main characters. Elend, Vin, Kelsier, Lightsong, Harathen, just to name a few. Some one is going to die by the 4th or 5th book, some one important.

  16. Well, according to Mr. Ts deal with Odium, its people from Kharbranth and their families. Do you know who's from Kharbranth? Kaladin's mother. Thats right, the big blue boy scout of Roshar is technically from Kharbranth. Kaladin fits the bill of being the champion of Team Radiant. Strong connection to Honor: Check. Hero complex the size of a Reshi greatshell: Check. Technically protected by Odium's deal: Check. There we have it folks, Kaladin will be our Champion to defeat Odium's Champion.

    She can turn people directly into greasy smoke, fire, or crystal. And has done so, multiple times. That's terrifying.

    I'm sure it's harder (maybe impossible?) to Soulcast a person who's full of Investiture, i.e., if Kaladin held a lot of Stormlight. But given enough Stormlight herself, based on what we saw at Thaylen Fields, she could just turn the air around Kaladin into stone and trap him until he ran out. If it were form-fitting enough of a stone wrapping, even summoning Syl as a Blade wouldn't leave him enough room to carve his way out.

    Granted, the prioximity of the Spiritual and Cognitive Realms at Thaylen Fields may have enhanced her skillset in particular, but every time I re-read those parts of Oathbringer I seriously think she's the most dangerous Radiant of them all, and not just because she is likely to be the most advanced in Ideals of any on Team Dalinar. (Since Nalan is a Skybreaker of the Fifth Ideal.)

    Jasnah is the most dangerous Radiant, but not because of her powers. She sees what the others do not and is willing to act on it, even if people like Kaladin will not act on it. She does not have the same moral and ethical limitations as the other Radiants, combine that with high intelligence and you get someone who is next to unstoppable. Sure, Kaladin could beat her in a 1v1 fight, but she will win the long term conflict because she is willing to wage total war and Kaladin is not.

  18. Dalinar is by far the most fleshed out character in SA right now. Kaladin, Shallan, and Vin come in close seconds, but Dalinar feels human to me. The other feel like really good characters, but Dalinar feels real. I do not think that Dalinar will ascend like Sazed, I think he might hand Honor over to the Stormfather and remain a bondsmith. Dalinar is the kind of guy who would not want that amount of responsibility nor would he want to give up his family. The Stormfather Bondsmith would then be able to use Honor's power, but with out having the Shardic downsides. They can make Honorblades, Heralds, and heal spren blade. They could also prevent the Singers from becoming Fused and be able to destroy Unmade.

    It could also be that a large portion of Team Radiant takes up Honor as a group and uses that to imprison Odium again. They would have the power of a shard, only with more minds that can use more of its power. That would go a long way in overpowering Odium because Team Radiant could access vastly more amount of Honor's investure because they have more minds using the power, sort of like Autonomy and her Avatars. Either option would lead to a ton of new story potential.
