  1. You're welcome! The answer to my first question raises some very interesting avenues of investigation regarding Shadesmar and its boundaries. Brandon's reply suggested to me that Shadesmar might have boundaries based on the influence of a planet's gravity well. He might have said something else but I don't remember it.
  2. I was fortunate to be in line at Brandon's book signing near Baltimore and got to ask him a question. I asked him if it was possible to enter or exit Shadesmar in interplanetary space. He laughed nervously for several seconds with a look that suggested "Uh-oh!" and replied (as best as I can remember): I also referenced the recent Q&A and this post, and speculated that the reason why the original poster thought Wax's sister was a duralumin ferring was because of Wax's comment that he did not feel any strong emotions as a result of her death. I told Brandon that the poster must have thought that she was deliberately suppressing her Connection with Wax by using Feruchemy. I said that I didn't need a yes or no answer from him, and he replied that he would neither confirm nor deny my statement and would only agree that it was very interesting.
  3. For some reason, the first thing that comes to mind in response to Brandon's response about Hoid is a combination of Nicrosil or Chromium Feruchemy. We know very little about Nicrosil Feruchemy so I could see Brandon using it as one of the reasons why Hoid keeps popping up, but I would expect that Chromium Feruchemy plays a major part as well.
  4. I recently posed the question of whether or not it is possible to enter or exit Shadesmar in interplanetary space. Knowing what we know about the third Mistborn trilogy I'd expect such a question to be RAFO Bait, but you never know...
  5. While reading this thread about the frame of reference used to anchor a time bubble while on a spaceship, I remembered a related thought: can you enter Shadesmar when you are in space? I've been thinking about this for a while in relation to the discussions regarding the Physical and Cognitive aspects of non-sapient things like furniture in relation to Forgery and the Forging of such objects. Based on what we know about Shadesmar on Roshar and Sel and how strongly it mimics the Physical aspect of the planet in those instances, I'm wondering if the influence of that Physical aspect (such as a planetary gravity well) also defines the boundary of Shadesmar, and outside of that boundary it is impossible to enter because it is simply not there. The same thought applies to exiting Shadesmar in space, if it is even possible to enter - you could end up floating in the void...
  6. That is quite possibly the most awesome answer I could have ever expected to get. Thank you for posting this!
  7. That quote basically explains my OP by providing the motivation for Preservation to create atium in the first place. By doing so he brings Ruin down to his level of power and he provides a useful tool for Allomancers.
  8. I checked the forums and the question that was RAFO'd was basically "Who was Lutha?" Part of my question has more to do with the name itself, and the other part has to do with why they were/are famous enough to lend their name to a city.
  9. You make a really good point here, and I suspect that the numbers 16, 10 and 3 will probably have more background revealed as more books are published. I also agree that we might get more numbers that are Cosmere-significant. Still, it seems like there are a lot more references to even numbers for Cosmere constructs but only one reference to odd numbers for Realmatic Theory. It sticks out too much to not be significant, in my opinion.
  10. As far as I know, Hemalurgy is not limited to not stealing magical powers; it can be used for things as varied as anchoring a kandra's Cognitive aspect and stealing the sDNA that binds Shardblades to a person. That's why I wondered if Hemalurgy could steal anything else, including abilities granted via Essence Marks. As for the links with Bloodsealing, Brandon said once that the motion of human blood within the body is important to Hemalurgy (Unfortunately I don't have a citation so I might be wrong here). That made me wonder how it cold be linked to Bloodesaling; I envisioned a scenario where Shai gets spiked to steal the abilities granted by the "Shaizan" mark and then the spike is used to Bloodseal her into another prison.
  11. That's a good point. I'd love to know if certain types of spheres are better for traveling to Shadesmar and if the transition is easier if you have a lot of spheres, if you have spheres of certain colors, or if you have very bright spheres.
  12. Something that has really puzzled me about the Cosmere is that almost every aspect of it revealed so far is based on even numbers - sixteen Shards, ten Shard worlds, the four groups of four metals for the Metallic Arts on Scadrial, the Ten Heightenings of BioChroma on Nalthis, the 30 different types of Rosharan magic, the four sides of Aon Rao and the city of Elantris on Sel, and so on. Yet, there are only three Realms in Realmatic Theory. Why is that? Why is this part of the Cosmere based on an odd number, and the smallest odd prime number at that? What makes three special here? (The big hole here is that the Ars Arcanum in Elnatris has 41 Aons listed, but I'm hoping that the list is not complete and that there are an even number of Aons.)
  13. You do make good points about everything seen so far in Warbreaker having to do with the visible spectrum, but one of the interesting points about white-colored objects in the real world is that they require greater energy input to reach a certain temperature. An obvious example is a white shirt versus a black shirt; you'll feel cooler in the white shirt. My thought was that even if a person at the Tenth Heightening couldn't directly perceive infrared radiation from a heated object, their use of that object's colors to fuel Awakening would still cause its temperature to drop because it is now reflecting more energy then it was beforehand. Once I thought of that I wondered if it could be extended to a scenario where that temperature drop could happen immediately because that infrared radiation is indirectly contributing to the overall input to the action of Awakening.
  14. This post is in reference to the Hal-Con notes in this post. Brandon said that the process that Preservation used to force some of Ruin's power into a Physical aspect of Preservation's choosing was "kinda like splintering", and that it had to do with how the Shard's powers clash with one another. Since the two Shards were supposed to be in balance with one another after Preservation used his Cognitive aspect to trap Ruin's Cognitive aspect, I think that Preservation forced the creation of atium specifically to weaken Ruin enough to allow him to be trapped. I'm curious to know if this is at all plausible.
  15. Near the end of The Way of Kings, Jasnah's admonishes Shallan pretty strongly for traveling to Shadesmar with only a single dim sphere. This suggests to me that there is a minimum safe number of spheres or a minimum number of lumens of Stormlight that is needed to travel to Shadesmar safely on Roshar, and maybe larger numbers of spheres or a larger sum of lumens is needed to do anything one you're there. Does anyone have any ideas on what those amounts could be?
  16. After I finished reading The Emperor's Soul, three questions came to mind: - Can you use Hemalurgy to steal an ability from a Forger when that ability was granted by one of their Essence Marks? - Can you bind a person using Bloodsealing if all you have from that person is a Hemalurgically charged spike? This obviously assumes that the person is still alive and that their sDNA wasn't too badly assaulted by the creation of the spike. - Following on from the second question, can you use a Hemalurgically charged spike to sic a Bloodsealer's monsters on someone? I'd love to know what forum goers think about this - Brandon has said elsewhere that Hemalurgy is applicable Cosmere-wide and I'm curious to see how it affects the magics in TES.
  17. While I was looking at the Ars Arcanum for Warbreaker I noted that the Third Heightening confers perfect color recognition and that the Tenth Heightening allows an object to be drained to the color white to fuel Awakening. These points make me wonder about the following questions: - Can someone at the Third Heightening see and perceive infrared and ultraviolet light? If they can see infrared light, can they tell what temperature an object is from observing it? - If someone at the Tenth Heightening touches a colored object that is radiating thermal energy in the infrared spectrum and drains it of all color, does its temperature drop?
  18. One of the things that I'd noticed when reading The Alloy of Law was the name of the city of Elendel, presumably named for Elend. So, with that in mind, I'd like to find out someday if Lutha (assuming that the -del suffix in Scadrialese is a natural syllabic suffix for place names) is a male name or a female name, and what sort of person they were (or are) to be notable enough to have a the capital city of the Final Empire named after them. (P.S. First post!)
