Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
Slimy_Slider replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Granted, but now you become addicted to cooking for yourself only. You spend all your time making wonderful, amazing creations in the kitchen but you never let anyone else taste or even see them and nobody believes you about your cooking skills. I wish that Terry Pratchett Returned to write a crossover with Brandon Sanderson that featured Sam Vimes as a Skybreaker. -
If the Dawnshards are located on Aimia and they are what is assumed to have destroyed Ashyn, I wonder if the Akinah Oathgate might be a little bit special. If you were fleeing from a planet that was in the process of destruction, while in possession of the items that caused said destruction, what would you do with them? My theory is that Aimia is where the Ashynite refugees first arrived on Roshar and that they immediately hid the Dawnshards somewhere on the island. We don't know what the climate/environment of Aimia was like before the scouring, it is even further west beyond Shinovar and so likely had a similar landscape. The Oathgate map in OB shows people, presumably Ashynites, emerging from a portal onto a land with grass and soil. However, it also shows spren, which Rysn noted were completely absent from Shinovar. Perhaps Aimia contains the mega-oathgate used originally to arrive at Roshar? If there is one super-fabrial already there, along with other ancient devices such as soulcasters, there might be Dawnshards hidden there as well.

[OB] Could Adolin become Odium’s Champion?
Slimy_Slider replied to Temoo's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think the Stormfather in Oathbringer told Dalinar that the reason Odium would accept the challenge was because he was a Shard and that places some limitations on his actions. What they are exactly is not clear, but I seem to remember something along the lines of the fact that Odium doesn't want to take risks. If he uses another method to destroy Roshar/Escape his confinement he would most likely succeed, but it would take a significant amount of his power to do so. By using a champion, he may be less likely to win, but the price of losing is only time, not a weakening of his power (Which would make the splintering of other Shards more difficult down the line).- 76 replies

[OB] Is there a connection here or just a sneaky joke by Sanderson?
Slimy_Slider posted a question in Cosmere Q&A
The Aon Kii means justice. The skybreaker who trains Szeth in OB is called Ki. Do we have a worldhopping Selish surgebinder or is it just Brandon being a troll again. -
Very interesting theory, It reminds me a lot of the Keys to the Kingdom books by Garth Nix. Warning: Major spoilers for said series below (If anyone was thinking of reading it).

National Treasure 3: The Way of Kings
Slimy_Slider replied to samtheredlion's topic in Stormlight Archive
I thought it mentioned that she had read it while studying under Jasnah. At least, that's how I always interpreted it. I suppose it is possible that it was just there as a book on philosophy (Did Jasnah mention Nohadon as one of the authors she had expected Shallan to have read? I can't really remember).- 8 replies

I always thought that part of the Diagram might have referred to Hoid, as "The Wanderer" seems like something he would be called. He's been called The Traveler and The Drifter before.

From some of the things the Fused have said, I wonder if the Thaylen Passions came from an earlier Singer religion. We know there was interbreeding and adoption of their language, so why not religion too?

I do like this theory, I feel like it would make sense with some of the things the Heralds have said (Thinking particuarly of what Jezrien said about being ripped apart). I also agree that there is a 10th Unmade now; The Everstorm. The Stormfather describes it as "A new thing, but old of design." If we assume it parallels to Taln, this would make sense as it was something that was theoretically possible for a long time but only happened recently. If you look at the design of the Everstorm, it does show some signs of being an 'inverse Taln". Talenat was the glue that kept civilisation together for millennia. There is even something along those lines in one of the epigraphs. He was the bearer of agonies, the patron of the stonewards. So is it a coincidence that after he finally breaks, we get the Everstorm. A storm which goes the opposite way to the highstorms, upending thousands of years of traditional countermeasures, awakening the Parsh and throwing nations into chaos around the continent. The whole thing is just a little too perfectly opposite for me to think it's unrelated.

The Fantasy Book that started it all
Slimy_Slider replied to Zelly's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Didn't see this anywhere above, maybe its just an Australian thing (or just something about me) but my first fantasy books were the Rondo ones by Emily Rodda. They were important to me, but the major breakthrough was when I read her Deltora Quest books. Not just the story itself, I loved the background she put into the world. My favourite book for sometime was the Explorer's Guide spinoff, I used to go through, planning imaginary journeys through Deltora. It was amazing and was probably responsible for me continuing to read when pretty much no one else I knew did. -
National Treasure 3: The Way of Kings
Slimy_Slider replied to samtheredlion's topic in Stormlight Archive
I recall that Dalinar quoted The Way of Kings at a meeting when Shallan was present and she thought she recognised the quote. This does seem to imply that she has read it before. But then again, maybe as a more advanced Radiant with pattern looking over her shoulder and some solid life experience under her belt there could be something there for her to find?- 8 replies

Just a pretty small idea I had about the mechanics of Voidbinding which I thought I'd share. We know that the way investiture works is determined by the planet, on Roshar it works through manipulating the surges. However, the way that Investiture is accessed is dependant on the Shards for which it is aligned. For example, to form and progress a Nahel Bond, the radiant has to experience personal growth (Cultivation) through swearing oaths (Honour). I was thinking about this and wondering how it related to Voidbinding and I recalled this quote from WoR. There does seem to be a link between the Thaylen Passions and Odium. Venli's speeches to the singers, particuarly the Thaylen ones, about needing to have passion made me wonder if that might be the key to Voidbinding. Someone, Human or Singer, with a connection to Odium and a strong enough intent could probably obtain Voidbinding powers just by really wanting them. Just an idea, feel free to nitpick it to death if you want and quote all the WoBs.

I'm a big fan of the cosmere and I really like to get involved in learning background world knowledge. I learnt how to read/write in Women's script a little while ago and that is pretty good, but I was wondering about Glyphs. Does anyone have some resources they can share about how to read or make glyphs properly? Because at the moment I just look at one and my brain says "Too complicated, how does this even work".

So how did people figure out that Zahel was Vasher?
Slimy_Slider replied to Necessary Eagle's topic in Stormlight Archive
I read SA first, so it wasn't a mid-book connection. But when I did read the WB sample in the back of HoA I finished it, didn't think about it too hard and went to bed (it was fairly late at night). In the space of about 5 minutes, I must have jumped out of bed at least three times with eureka moments as I figured out the major character links. -

This looks great. I got CK2 recently and the first thing I did was look for a cosmere themed mod. Keep the updates coming please. -

Granted, but you lose all ability to see in the dark. I want a bead of lerasium. -
Hi fellow 17th Sharders, I'm a relatively recent Sanderson fan from Australia (Started with WoK about a year and a half ago - downloaded a sample for my Kindle, started reading and found myself suddenly awake at a far later time then I really should have been) who has so far read Stormlight (+ Edgedancer), Mistborn Era 1, Alloy of Law, Warbreaker and Arcanum Unbounded (Excluding Hope of Elantris). I absolutely love the Cosmere and reguarly confuse my friends (who are all pretty much non-readers) by making references to things they don't understand or going on about Investiture/Shards/Realmatics or by writing in Vorin Script. And don't even mention the use of expletives such as Stormfather, Colours or Harmony. Anyway, I'm really excited to be here and get deeper into the community rabbit hole.
