I just got back from visiting family in Utah, and there I was able to go to church! It was nice. Now I'm back in Washington, where it's still not allowed :( Oh well.

And if we're doing mission stories, my dad went to Russia and met a witch lady who licked his companion's eyeball. So...

My sister got called to Russia. Got home a little over a year ago and is still obsessed with the place. She's just that type of person though. Don't think she had her eye licked, but she did meet a number of . . . odd characters.

  3. I definitely hated Shallan in the first book. I was bored by her chapters and I didn't see what she had to do with the interesting stuff going on at the shattered plains. I would've thought she was from a different universe except for her association with Jasnah Kholin, who I figured out about halfway through was related to Dalinar. I didn't care about Shallan's problems, and I thought she was just a whiny little child. Well, she is kind of a whiny little child.

I started to like her more in WoR, since I though Veil was kind of interesting. I'm still confused at why Shallan refuses to all-out join the ghostbloods. I mean, it's not like that tattoo would stick, so she really has nothing to worry about in regards to getting discovered :P

I just don't like her as a character that much. It didn't help to see her identity crisis in OB. The truth seemed so obvious to me, that I just found myself getting annoyed whenever she brought it up. That said, I don't think she's really a poorly written character. I think her jokes are stupid, but as we've seen with Wit, Brandon is fully capable of writing the most hilarious of insults. So her jokes are intentionally kind of dull. She kind of reminds me of Anakin. Everybody thought Hayden Christensen did a horrible job playing Anakin, but in fact, that just the way his character is. (I looked for the quote for about ten minutes, but I couldn't find it. But from George Lucas's own mouth, Hayden Christensen executed his lines perfectly. That's the person Anakin is.) So while I'm sick of Shallan being the way she is, I recognize that that's the way Brandon intentionally wrote her. I hope he'll write her into a more mentally stable person, but I'll accept her for now.

Alright, it was good to get that out. Back to the theory boards!

Well, Dalinar having such vastly increased strength doesn't fit with the other exhibits of strength we have seen, as Kaladin was surprised when Rock was able to draw the Shardbow.

That's a very good point. I still don't think we should rule it out though, since Dalinar's a bondsmith. It may be that bondsmiths - or possibly just anyone who bonds the Stormfather - do get increased strength from stormlight. I don't think that's too much of a stretch. But, you have just answered the original question. If stormlight does grant extra strength, it is negligible. (Unless you're a bondsmith maybe, but we only have one data point there, so best to wait for more information.)

I had actually thought about this. I am thinking that many are varieties of crepes.
I found 8 plus the 10th Tashi one, though the 7th could be the same as the other 2 sweet varieties.

    1. Sun Day pancakes Tuk-cake
    2. salty, with chopped-up vegetables.
    3. Another tasted sweet.
    4. variety was fluffier, almost without any substance to it, though there was some kind of sauce to dip it in
    5.  dense variety, with mashed-up paste in the center that was too sticky and salty.
    6. One has sugar in the center.
    7. a variety she’d already tried— the ones with sweet stuff in the middle.
(This could be the same as 3 or 6)
    8.  a type with a real thick, almost mealy texture.

        10. The tenth is dedicated to Tashi

    My guesses.
2 = standard savory Crepe with vegetable filling
3 = Sweet pancake - Either this is one with sweet filling, or a Sweet pancake like Brown sugar pancakes, or maple syrup in the batter pancakes.
4 = fluffy pancake like buttermilk pancakes, or one of the recipes where you whip the egg whites into a meringue and fold it in. one of the
    - this could be a Beghrir type pancake with honey sauce.
    - or Netherlands Poffertjes, Aebleskiver's
5 = Salted Caramel Crepe, Russian blinis with caviar
6= Swedish pancake with powdered sugar
7= pancake/crepe with fruit/jam filling, or sweetened cheese filling
    8. Buckwheat flapjacks, Potato pancakes,

    Other options I considered
Finnish Pannu Kakku, German pancakes, Indonesian Serabi, Poffertjes, Aebleskiver's ...

Oh, thank you! This is a big help. I guess I'll just make up the ninth. My sister knows how to make this lemon sauce, that is absolutely divine. Do you have chapter references for these? Thanks again!

I think they're mostly just supposed to be the typical, flat round pancakes, judging by the fact that Lift uses a shard fork to try to eat them, and ends up just wedging it just the right way under the pancake that she can pick it up and eat it. I'd have to read it again to be sure.

What the WoB states is that Dalinar, with Stormlight, could not lift a stone of equivalent weight under normal conditions.

Also, I know what High Imperial is.

I guess it comes down to interpretation then. I think it's pretty clear that it says Dalinar could not lift that stone without stormlight, but because he had stormlight, he was able to push his body far enough to get that stone back into place. Then, he used his surges (possibly his resonance) to reattach it to its supports. I think Brandon could've answered more clearly, so I admit that you might be right. Just, what I got from that was not the same thing you got from it.

    What’s your favorite cosmere book?

    What's your favorite cosmere character?

    Cheese?

WoK without a doubt. It may be because that was my introduction to the cosmere, but I love it more than any other book ever. I've been trying to get my sister to read it for years, but she doesn't like Michael Kramer's voice (how is that possible???) and we don't have a paper copy.

Possibly Kaladin for the same reason. The length of the book made me really feel how much effort he had to put in just to get the members of Bridge 4 talking to him. I guess he was kind of relatable in that way? I will say this though: Vin and Elend were the first love story I ever actually cared about. I mean, it's not like I didn't ever want any two other characters to end up together, but it was more like, "wouldn't it be nice if they started dating" or something. But when Elend gave her that handkerchief, I thought: "If you don't marry this man, I will DIE."

Pepperoni. I'll take some sausage on there too, if you have some. And onions. Should I pick it up in ten minutes?

    Yes, but you originally said:

  9. So, on Christmas morning, I want to make pancakes. But not just any pancakes. I want to have several different kinds of pancakes. I want to have ten different varieties of pancakes. Specifically, the ten different kinds of pancakes Lift eats when she goes to Yeddaw in the novella Edgedancer. But here's the problem: I don't know what all the varieties of pancakes were. I read through Edgedancer recently, and I only remember three - one has sweet stuff in the middle, one is less sweet and kind of chewy(?), and one isn't a pancake at all, it's just a thought. So really I only know two kinds of pancakes to make. And I'm kind of lost on how to make the ones I do know about.

Are all ten varieties even described in the book? I don't remember. If it's gonna take going back and listening to the whole thing again, I will. But I thought I really should ask here first; make sure I'm not trying to re-do work that has already been done. So if yall have any information on the Yeddaw pancakes, please post it here. Even knowing the chapter references where the pancakes are talked about would be a big help, since then I would have a much smaller search range. That's all. Thanks!

  10. Alright, before I take the quiz, I predict that I'm a Lightweaver (maybe truthwatcher, but I think that's less likely). That's not to say I couldn't see myself as a stoneward (hence my profile pic), an elsecaller, or an edgedancer. Not to say that I wouldn't be proud to call myself a bondsmith, a willshaper, or a windrunner. I would, however, be surprised if I were a skybreaker or dustbringer. But anyway, let's take that quiz.

    . . .

    Edgedancer 77%
    Truthwatcher 67%
    Bondsmith 63%
    Windrunner 60%
    Elsecaller 49%
    Skybreaker 41%
    Lightweaver 40%
    Willshaper 31%
    Stoneward 29%
    Dustbringer 17%

Alright. I'm not that surprised. I thought I'd get a much higher stoneward percentile than that. I'm also very into personal truth, so I don't think it's accurate about the 40% lightweaver thing. But I'm not at all surprised that Edgedancer was my #1.
Now the question is: Do I change my profile pic to the Edgedancer symbol, since that's my order, or should I leave it in honor of Talenel, Stonesinew, Bearer of Agonies, Herald of War.
  11. While I'm technically not 'new here' I haven't been active on the shard since I made my account, so I don't have any close friends here yet. Still, I would like to compliment @Ookla the Channelknight and @Chasmgoat on their comedic prowess. I will also compliment sharders in general for being so wholesome, intelligent, and interesting. We can be putting our heads together on one thread, theorizing about surgebinding or what the title of the next Stormlight book will be, then jump over to another thread about silly character ships. I am so proud of this community.

  12. I guess I'll . . . do one of these. I'll try to answer all your questions in depth and honestly. (Although silly questions might receive silly answers.) I don't promise complete honesty because this is the internet and some information should just never be shared. As Jasnah says,

    Quote

"I do forgive your curiosity, but I cannot reward it. These secrets are mine."  (The Way of Kings, chapter 29)

I have a lot of opinions on a lot of things, so this should get . . . interesting.

That's enough preamble, let's get on to the questions!

  15. How do I pick up women like Adolin?

(Clarification: I'm not implying that I want a woman who is like Adolin, or that Adolin is secretly a woman. I want to be able to pick up women the same way Adolin picks up women.)

  16. I see. Well then, thank you all very much, and thank you for not spoiling stuff.

I came across this while researching for a Heroes of Might and Magic II scenario I was building. If any of you play that game, or are just interested in anything to do with the Stormlight Archives, I recommend you follow this post:

The scenario will be relatively easy, and for that reason, maybe it'll be a good one for beginners to play to introduce themselves to the best strategy game, nay, the best game of ALL TIME.

So anyway, I just thought I would advertise the map, as I'm very proud of it and it's something I think you can all enjoy.

  17. I was on my way through Oathbringer again in preparation for Rhythm of War, and I thought to myself: "Dalinar's conquests would make an excellent Heroes map." In fact, whenever I hear an excellent story about war, I often have a similar thought. But anyway, this time I acted on it and started making the map. It's coming along super well, and I would like to share it with my fellow Sanderfans when it is finished. I've only spent a few hours on it so far, but I'm very proud of what's been done. I will upload it here when I complete it, and maybe some of you might want to test it and give me feedback. I will test it once or twice myself before uploading it. Also, if any of you have advice on compressing and uploading map files, I would appreciate that.
