Wow, thank you for doing this for me! (and for anyone else who wants to make Yeddaw pancakes.) So we know at least 7 unique ones:
- salty w/ vegetables. (may or may not be the same as Sun Day pancakes)
- sweet.
- fluffy, almost without any substance. Served with a dipping sauce.
- dense with sticky, salty paste in the center.
- covered with crunchy seeds
- sugar in center (probably same as 'the ones with sweet stuff')
- thick, almost mealy texture.
So, I don't believe we have enough information on the Sun Day/Tuk-cake to count it as a unique variety. There are two varieties not described. Those might be "the other two varieties she'd tried over the last few hours" from page 190. More likely, they just don't get mentioned since Brandon was running out of ideas. Anyway, I plan to replace the missing two with:
8. chocolate chip pancake, and
9. standard with maple syrup & butter.
Those are definitely not the two we're missing, but in my opinion, no pancake meal is complete without a chocolate chip pancake. Also, I don't think I could find out the real recipes without going to Brandon directly, which I don't really have time to do before tomorrow morning. Oh, and let's not forget:
10. dedicated to Tashi. More a thought than a real entity.

This isn't a theory, just something I think everyone needs to know. I was looking through WoBs (W's oB?) about 'sixteen' and I ran across this:
QuoteChaos2651
Hemalurgically, atium steals Allomantic Temporal Powers. But, that seems unlikely, since atium is a god metal. It wouldn't fit in with the rest of the magic system. Did Preservation, in addition to switching Cadmium and Bendalloy for Atium and Malatium, also switch atium's Feruchemical and Hemalurgic powers with Cadmium? Because it seems to me there's not a lot of atium Marsh can use to live for hundreds of years into the next Mistborn trilogy.
Brandon Sanderson
Preservation wanted Atium and Malatium to be of use to the people, as he recognized that it would be a very powerful tool—and that using it up could help defeat Ruin. But he also recognized that sixteen was a mythological important number, and felt it would make the best sign for his followers. So he took out the most unlikely (difficult to make and use) metals for his sign to his followers. But that doesn't have much to do with Hemalurgy's use here.
Remember that the tables—and the ars Arcanum—are 'in world' creations. (Or, at least, in-universe.) The knowledge represented in them is as people understand it, and can always have flaws. That was the case with having atium on the table in the first place, and that was the case with people (specifically the Inquisitors) trying to figure out what atium did Hemalurgically.
Their experiments (very expensive ones) are what determined that atium (which they thought was just one of the sixteen metals) granted the Allomantic Temporal powers. What they didn't realize is that atium (used correctly) could steal ANY of the powers. Think of it as a wild card. With the right knowledge, you could use it to mimic any other spike. It works far better than other spikes as well.
As for Marsh, he's got a whole bag of atium (taken off of the Kandra who was going to try to sell it.) So he's all right for quite a while. A small bead used right can reverse age someone back to their childhood.
But this was a little beyond their magical understanding at the time.
Barnes and Noble Book Club Q&A (July 8, 2009)So he has a whole bunch of atium that, I assume, he's using to compound his age. The reason Brandon didn't explicitly say that Marsh was compounding is because this Q&A was before Alloy of Law, and the readers at that point didn't know a whole lot about compounding. He just said there was something you could do with atium to make yourself younger. So, there you go. I just think we all need to be on the same page about that.

What about a necklace of tin beads?
That's not a bad idea either. I wonder which gets you more volume of tin per length of chain.
3 minutes ago, Koloss17 said:So as a tin feruchemist, a Ferring could store their sense of pain, meaning that they would not feel pain. There isn’t many a reason to tap to increase your sense of pain, so likely you would throw out the ring or bracer you are using to store it. That would bypass the need to have a ton of rings, for that sense, at least.
That would be so nice! Of course, you do have to worry about overexerting your body at that point. Pain exists for a very good reason. But there are situations that it just gets in the way, so I don't think you would never want to store pain. Like if you had a headache you could just store it until you can take a nap or something. Or, and this is a very extreme and risky situation, if you're in a fight and you have a broken limb, you might decide it's a good idea to store the pain to finish the fight. I don't know. But yeah, throwing away a filled pain-tinmind makes sense.

Or you could have some sort of pure tin chain necklace each ring can store a different sense, and at most times you are always touching each one, there would also be like 20-30 rings and not all of the rings have to store a different sense.
A necklace would be good. I'd go for a relatively thick chain, to give yourself more space in your metalminds. I could also see someone wearing a tin skullcap. According to this picture,
Spoilerit doesn't look like he has any padding between the metal and his head, so that could be a metalmind. And, if you'll notice, he also seems to be wearing a gambeson over a mail hauberk. I imagine it's just to catch arrows that go through the gambeson, and chances are he has a thin fabric shirt to keep the mail from rubbing against his skin, but it may be that it's touching his skin in such a way that he could be storing attributes in those links.
19 hours ago, Koloss17 said:one of the coolest things about tin is being able to store your sense of pain. It would allow you to store pain without tapping it, so you don’t have to wear any rings or chainmail.
Could you clarify? I've read that a few times and I don't know what you mean.

Please. Don’t anger @Koloss17 by insulting tin. You’re lucky I got to you before they did.
But yes, tin minds can store all manner of senses. There’s a different WoB that mentions how a platypus can store its electricity-sense. And since you can see bluelines even when you’re blind (it’s how the inquisitors see) there’s very good reason to believe it’s a separate sense. I even asked brandon a question relying on that assumption and he didn’t correct me. Tin is a really cool metal honestly.
Alright, fair.
QuotePhantomMonstrosity (paraphrased)
Let's say we had a platypus Feruchemist, who can sense electric fields. Could he make a tinmind for that sense?
Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased)
Platypus tinmind should work.
Steel Ministry report (Aug. 20, 2014)Here's that platypus WoB. I assume it works for sharks, too. They can sense heartbeats of nearby fish via electric currents. Makes them all the more scary.
I guess F-tin is more useful than I assumed. Still, you have to have a separate tinmind for every sense. If you want to have access to a lot of magic at once, you'd have to have SO many rings and piercings. Or, oooh, I like this idea. Or a chain mail coif or something made of tin links. You could store a different sense in each ring. Then again, the links are very small, and I don't know of any piece of chain armor that's supposed to touch the user's skin. Maybe plate armor makes more sense. But no, that's often padded too. And come to think of it, I don't know that tin would even make good armor. I still think chain metalminds would be cool though.

Again, not my RP, but I don't see why anyone can't join. I'll add you too.

It's not my RP, but I don't see why not. Since I have the power to add you to the PM, I will.

I always liked him. I had doubts about his motives in FE, (that's Final Empire, not a capitalized abbreviation for iron.) but as soon as he gave her that handkerchief I was Vin & Elend 100%.
That's really all I have to say about his personality.

and of course there is tin, which is the grandest of them all.
I just want to know where you got the idea that tin can store basically anything. Did Brandon ever say steelsight is a sense? Do we have a WoB on storing the 'sense of balance' you get from pewter? I think you can only store hearing, sight, smell, taste, or touch in a tinmind.

I've said before that steel is the best metal to compound. I have to recognize that compounding atium would be just amazing, although godmetals can be difficult to get your hands on. Steel, on the other hand, is so ridiculously easy to come by. You would have no trouble at all finding steel to invest and ingest, either on Earth or Scadrial. That means infinite speed, plus the powers of a coinshot. (Plus the resonance, which we actually don't know what that is yet.)
I do like what @Knight of Iron said about flying. If you're an iron compounder, you can store your weight to almost nothing, and then just pull on an airplane if you want. Free ride! (You'd have to keep yourself warm somehow, though. Other than that, excellent power. Still, being a crasher is probably better in more situations.)
As for non-compounding twinborn, I would go with copper for my feruchemical ability and either brass or zinc for my allomantic. I do hate forgetting things, and a little soothing would help in job interviews.

This looks very sophisticated. To the point of being daunting to me, who is new to forum-style RP. But as Nalizar says, "The only way to learn is to do." So I'm in.
My character:
QuoteAelin, male, 15 years old. Short and skinny due to lack of nutrition. Dark hair, brown eyes. No magic abilities (I'm assuming that's allowed) and grew up on the streets of Eletor in Aletoria. Slow to trust anyone, and not necessarily loyal to those he does trust. Relatively good at picking pockets, but his real specialty is in stealth. (Stealing people's clothes is pretty much how he survived in the cold of nightzone.) However, if it does come to confrontation, he's no good in a fight. If he can't run, he'll try desperately stabbing at you with the knife he always carries.
If anything about this doesn't fit into this world, I'm probably okay with changing it. Thanks

ok, but seriously please don't.
Okay, sorry, sorry. I didn't notice that at first.
But anyway, that's really funny. What was the longest time between someone's birthday and when they found their present?

We do this fun thing at our house. Going backwards: Christmas, Christmas Eve, Christmas Adam... and then there are varied things we say for the 22nd. But tomorrow is Christmas Adam!
. . . Lemme guess. This originated from your dad? (or at least his side of the family)

Sweet. To make my opinions known, I would love it if it were in Final Empire days and my character(s?) got to be a noble misting. Maybe affiliated with the underground if most other people want to be skaa. That said, I'd be happy with either era, before or after the catacendre. I'm mostly here to learn how this works. (and have fun, of course.)

Granted, your mom is now allergic to everything but cats.
I wish Brandon Sanderson could write 10 times quicker while maintaining his current quality and skill.
Granted, but he also ages 10 times faster. He chooses to retire early and spend the rest of his days with his family, leaving the rest of his books unfinished.
I wish for cleverness; the ability to say and do the right things at the right time.

That was one of the first Brandon swears I started using. (Can we start calling them Sanderswears? No, that sounds like a clothing chain. Nevermind.) I caught myself thinking a girl was "storming beautiful," and oddly felt kind of proud of myself.

I used to be a part of a much younger forum community (they were for books not even considered YA even) and I made the mistake of making a second account that went unnoticed for a couple days. And then one day... both accounts banned. Instant regret. Tough luck.
I had thought it would be funny or cool. I could be two different people! I would be in on a secret that only I knew about... everyone would be fooled.
I urge anyone considering this to just not. It's not all it's cracked up to be, and you'd just be making a mistake.
Yeah, I haven't done exactly that, but I've broken a few rules in the past that I thought I could get away with. (I couldn't.)
I've found that generally, you should assume the people in charge are five steps ahead of you. So even if you pull off what you consider to be the perfect crime, you've almost certainly left some evidence that can be traced directly back to you. Especially with computers, you should act almost like you're being watched at all times.
