Ooh, what superpower did you get? Silence of divine reference.

I am UK based, and would be happy to join a meetup in London. It'd be good to finally meet someone who shares my interest in magical flying knights and women who can throw fire from their hands.

Does he just mean cadmium burning? Or Bendalloy? Or has some character gone forward? I wonder.

What makes us believe that Cusicesh is actually a spren?
Nepene replied to JamHeretic's topic in Stormlight Archive
Their lack of knowledge was because they didn't have contact with the other metals. What you are proposing is more like them seeing a metal and not realizing it is a metal. -
Brandon's answers in Houston 3/11 signing
Nepene replied to PadraicSeebrr's topic in Events and Signings
Thank you for this, it's awesome when others bring us new info. Also, Brandon has confirmed elsewhere that lift will be a flashback character in the second part of SA so presumably she'll be a main viewpoint character. -
I was wondering if anyone here would be willing to do some art for a roleplay of ours? Satsuoni is making a chat console to play "Release the caged shard" Where a shard tries to release itself through words alone. We played it once, and the shard got released. I was wondering if someone would be willing to make some artwork for it? E.g. a person talking to a crystal shard. A shard being released from its prison. Or a shard mass murdering people (bad ending) Or a shard saving everyone and making their lives good (good ending) Or a shard making the world a bit more magical (neutral ending.) Would anyone be willing to do sketches or such of this?

He demonstrated new powers from his status as a KR that prevented the superior Szeth from killing him. He would have died if it wasn't for him suddenly demonstrating new powers that Szeth didn't know about. Then, using this surprise new power he managed to injure him. Szeth then fled him due to emotional issues. Kaladin got several non critical blows in. Then Szeth let him kill him because he was depressed.

Seattle signing: RENARIN WILL HAVE A BOOK!
Nepene replied to JamHeretic's topic in Stormlight Archive
There are ten stormlight archive books, and each features flashbacks from the perspective of a major viewpoint character. This confirms that Renarin will get flashbacks and be a viewpoint character. People who love him as such are happy. Dalinar is one of Brandon's first two characters ever, Hoid included, so his family members are more important than most other characters. -
Brandon has stated elsewhere that Nalthis and Roshar powers are similar, I believe. So I would guess that the Blade's greater consumption of power is similar to weapons like Nightblood in their greater consumption of breaths to be produced. When you make investiture do something unnatural, against its purpose (such as make human soul fragments animate cold metal) it takes a lot more power. When you make an Honorblade be used against the honorable purpose it was made for, it uses more power. As such, I would predict that by behaving in a more honorable manner you could reduce the blade's investiture consumption.

Los Angeles WoR Signing + Audio (Silence Divine Reading)
Nepene replied to smearedblackink's topic in Events and Signings
.I listened to the next part. A man had some creepy spirit girl following him, an echo of some bad job. They are in a floating city, upsidown, staring at magma and Ash (Around 4 mins). He is an incubator. High ranked, and something bad happened to him a few months ago. He is trying to stay unhealthy so he can better catch illnesses. He goes to a police station which I think doesn't look functional. He meets a woman, who is preparing to go out for something, possibly a prophesy. Around 8 I got a bit confused. Lots of weird words. Things got smashed and stuff happened. He walked towards a door with flowry guards. He is some other race than them, but looks like them. This is a special place where only incubators are allowed. The people there aren't exactly prisoners, and their containment aren't exactly cells, they just can't leave. 10.30. They were ill. They would stay there, holding an illness till they got better. Then the next person would come along. At around 11 they started listing superpowers. You got paid good money for this.. A young man hovered in the air reading a book (gravity surge like power? like the city maybe). An elderly woman tapped on a liquid, changing its color (transformation surge like power?). As long as the illness lasted, you gained some power. And he stopped there, after saying they were very dangerous. It's a rough draft. He's laying down a character. He's written five pages I think. He also has an outline. Time is tight. So he probably feels your need for him to be writing other things. At least he didn't secretly write another novella. He makes some announcements. I doubt there's anything more that I should note down. Photos and thanking Barnes and Noble.- 21 replies

Los Angeles WoR Signing + Audio (Silence Divine Reading)
Nepene replied to smearedblackink's topic in Events and Signings
0-2 he talks for a bit, cheers. Talks about why he made stormlight. 3-5 Hardest words to write were the three on the front, standing on the shoulders of giants, writing about a character in each book. Can't call it the book of endless pages. 5-6 Wrote the book of atlantis. 6-8 Needs a magic idea. 8-9 WOR is the longest fantasy book physically possible. More cheering. He loves Michael Weduifvhisfv's art. 9-11.00 more stuff about art. And at around 11.10 the qand a starts. First question. Yes, we will find out more about Hoid? as the series progresses 12.50 why is way of kings in a dark setting. Fantasy setting? Dunno. Brandon thinks 90s books were uncreative, he wants to push boundaries. Long answer. He likes to go to new places. Video 2. 0-3 Lift will be a main character in arc 2. He likes characters. Lift is a seed character on his internal wiki. 3-4 Steelheart is magic, not science. 4.30-6 alcatraz is coming back. He likes abusing his publishers with cliffhangers. 6-11. Are his books more meaningful than wheel of time. He feels wot is his, just as Dalinar is. Hoid and Dalinar were after wot. He rewrote the wheel of time. More wheel of time stuff. He likes finishing stories. He chose to finish wot forever. 11.20-13 why does he have traditional heroes? He wants to read about traditional heroes, everyone he knows is fundamentally good, he wants to hang out with his characters. 13. Next trilogy of Mistborn. SL 3 needs to be done first. Quickly. More banter happens after. Next video. No 3. 0-1 Mistborn needs to be made into a movie. He can smell a movie. He starts reading around 3. Silence of Divine. Bacteria gives you super powers.- 21 replies

I think it's more likely that Hoid and Rayse were friends of some sort, Hoid betrayed Rayse in some manner, and Rayse got angry. Or some variant of that- he was driven to his actions by Hoid, made to do it.

Pre-printed Question Cards for Events & Signings
Nepene replied to Argent's topic in Events and Signings
The identification of Honor as the Almighty is a potential spoiler, though not what we were talking about- we were talking about revealing whether Vorinism was right through saying that the Almighty was the true god of the Vorin religion. Since the Heralds talk about him, that issue isn't there so much. To resolve your separate issue, maybe we could just use the intent names of the Shards? Say Honor in the Stormlight archives. . -
Pre-printed Question Cards for Events & Signings
Nepene replied to Argent's topic in Events and Signings
Ruin drives the plot of all three mistborn books- his conspiracy to kill LR in the first, his attempt to be freed in the second, his destruction of the world in three. Revealing his existence early is a massive spoiler. In the very first chapter, the Heralds reveal they worship the Almighty. That clearly indicates that, to some degree, the people are right. I don't feel this is a plot significant spoiler. Anything revealed in chapter one is fair game I feel.7 Also, getting the implementation right is also important. We should make sure that our core concepts are sound, so that if anything goes wrong it doesn't shut us down. This could be a big issue- we could be stopped if we do the wrong spoilers and annoy someone. -
Pre-printed Question Cards for Events & Signings
Nepene replied to Argent's topic in Events and Signings
I'd be worried about being too spoilery- mentioning the existence of Ruin early could spoil the first two mistborn books. I'd prefer to just do general concepts, and things that are very clearly telegraphed in the novels. So maybe something like "Trivia: In Brandon's cosmere, most humans worship beings known as Shards or Shardholders (though they think of them as gods). In Warbreaker for example we see the god Austre, who we suspect is Endowment, while the Stormlight Archive series mentions the Almighty, Honor." -
Pre-printed Question Cards for Events & Signings

How about adding some random facts which are the answers to very common questions Brandon receives? Did you know that Brandon Sanderson loves the Terry Pratchett, Robert Jordan, Melanie Rawn, Barbara Hambly and Anne McCaffrey and Tad Williams books? He also loves Les Miserables. Did you know that Hoid/Wit/Dust is a recurring character through many of his books? Did you know that many of his books are set in the same universe, the Cosmere? Did you know that Lightsong is one of his favorite characters? Did you know that he plans to do a sequel to the Mistborn, Elantris, and Warbreaker novels? Did you know that he plans to write ten stormlight archive books? Did you know that Warbreaker is available for free on the internet? Maybe have each card contain one or two random facts or questions. We could have a few other things too, like cosmere timelines, brief articles explaining cosmere concepts, and bring a couple along to leave. Splinters. In Brandon Sanderson's novels, there are powerful beings called 'Shards'. When these beings live on a world their power often breaks off to form sentient beings with some power. Aons, spren, and divine breaths are all examples of these. Spread the word! ~17thshard -
Information from the midnight signing! (SPOILERS)
Nepene replied to Pinpoint's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yeah, Hoid has feruchemy and can regenerate body parts. -
With an aluminium metal mind you can store your identity, if that counts. Short of being a shard/ holder of the well of ascension, we haven't seen any evidence of out of body experiences. So you could ask about that.
-
Sure, send it out. Perhaps I can do this one last service to the cosmere.
-
He might disbelieve it, but I don't trust Szeth's ability to discern lies. He believed Tara's stupid reasoning on Kaladin having an honorblade. He is a truthless, and mass murdered people because his superiors told him to. He sounds pretty gullible, especially when a person sounds authoritative.
-
It would be ambitious of him to disbelieve the Herald God who is speaking with absolute truthfulness.
-
"It is a sword from a world across the stars. Just as we orbit our star many other worlds orbit stars, and many of those have humans like you. It is invested with the power of the God of Endowment, just as Shardblades are invested with the power of the God of Honor. It is sentient, very powerful, and consumes stormlight at a furious pace when touched. It also desires to destroy evil. It was brought here by a person who travelled here with magic." It wouldn't be that hard to explain.
-
The voices in his head which he hadn't heard for years was a big hint. The color and flower based metaphors. He plays that weird game Lightsong played.
-
Clearly not, as they have different names, properties, and Intents. By my envisioning, Oblivion would be substantially stronger than a Shard, and be able to permanently destroy investiture and souls.
