I think he might have also been referring to Atium and all of it's alloys. For whatever reason I can't quote it directly here, but a question from Sweetness was "3. Can Demoux burn malatium?", and BS reply was "Interesting theory". It seems obvious, to me, that Lerasium alloys can be used by anyone (Not just Mistings or Mistborn) since it grants a stronger relationship to Preservation (Since part of Preservation is already in everyone). So I don't see why he would be so vague about something that is pretty obvious. (I hope I'm not assuming too much to think that) So the only other group of metals we know next to nothing about are Atium alloys. That's why I think he was referring to Atium alloys instead of Lerasium Alloys. I don't really have much else to base this off of other than that, but I have a feeling it may have to do with the fact that Atium is of Ruin. Hemalurgy steals powers and those powers can be given to anyone. It's a weak link, but it's all I've got. On that note, I REALLY want to know what each of these Atium alloys do. When you take Malatium for example, it mixes the abilities of Gold and Atium together in an interesting way (Taking Gold's ability to look into the past, and uses Atium's ability to project it on another person). I'd bet money that each of the other alloys will mix the two abilities in very interesting ways.

Motivation, Execution, Consequence: A Realmatic Theory
Kiwi replied to Kurkistan's topic in Cosmere Discussion
So I'd first like to say that I love this whole theory. It helped me put a lot of missing pieces together that I hadn't noticed. It also made me want to re read Warbreaker. I read a BS quote where he compares the forms of Aons to the forms of each element/metal of Allomancy (I can't find the quote now that I need it of course), and goes on to say this gateway is what decides how the Power of Creation is manifested. I guess in other words, depending on what "form" is used, a corresponding ability or magic comes through that gateway in a different way. So really this post is to ask a question. Could this Cognitive aspect (the visualization) you talk about be considered Awakening's "form" or "gateway" to access and interpret the magic system?- 134 replies

Hmmmm, that's a very good point, but the way I'm spinning it is that this is a one day thing. There is a bigger picture type thing, but lets just say this sudden evolution of every baby born on that date is a gift, and part of a test from an outside source. Can't give away all the goodies yet :-P Thank you for the feedback regardless, I appreciate it a lot

So this is my first try at this, I've recently become interested in trying to write a short story (Or more if it happens). I've always loved TV series like Heroes and Alphas, or movies like X-men where it's set on our world, where humans end up with extraordinary abilities. However, I began to realize that if I went that route, I'd be opening a can of worms due to the massive amount of abilities possible. So, I've taken a page from BS and decided to limit the abilities to a set of abilities with rules inherently obtained by being one of these Evolved Human Beings ("Slang" term for them atm is "Evo" or "Evos" for plural). I haven't quite fleshed out what all the abilities will be, but I think I'm leaning towards them mostly having to do w/ control over one's mind and body (Muscles specifically). Obvious ones from below are Telekinesis and some type of high pitched scream by manipulating the vocal chords. The changing eye color also has to do w/ control of one's body. Another possible one could be Telepathic communication (Evos can block other Evos from looking into their mind though). Anywho, that part is still a work in progress. So here's my prologue, and first paragraph of Chapter 1. Prologue Friday December 28, 2012 I don’t know who this will reach, or if it will even reach anyone. My name is not important, for I fear I will soon be silenced anyway. What is important, however, is something I have had the great misfortune of witnessing. I was merely a bystander to what happened, but I can tell you now; the world will never be the same again. It’s been one week now since it happened. Friday December 21, 2012, the infamous date everyone scoffed at and ignored, or patiently waited for to see what would happen. My wife’s due date was set for December 25, but as usual nothing ever goes according to plan. Boy is that an understatement… She went into labor late Thursday night. Drugs were administered for pain, and a room was set up for the birth. The moment we had been waiting 9 months for was finally here. I don’t know how they scale the difficulty of a child birth, they all seem pretty damnation difficult if you ask me, but apparently this was an extremely difficult one. The doctors wore confused expressions on their faces as they worked into the early hours of the morning. After what seemed like a lifetime, the room let out a sigh of relief… and then gasped it right back in. The child had the most unnaturally white irises. We thought something was wrong. Was it sick? Was it some sort of disease or abnormality? Then, suddenly its eyes turned a bright violet, then a neon pink, and soon enough the irises were changing colors so fast it looked like a rainbow was trying to escape through my child’s eyes. And then, things went terribly wrong. First the baby started crying, as most do when they first come into the world. This was no ordinary crying though, it was deafening. It was like nails on a chalkboard, a fork on a porcelain plate, and the highest frequency pitch that humans can distinguish mixed together and the volume set to eleven. Objects started flying across the room. Canisters were falling off shelves, scalpels and other instruments zigzagged through the air, all while doctors and nurses covered their ears to block out what can only be described as a human dog whistle. Unfortunately there was no time to react or dodge anything. There were many casualties, including my wife. My child, my own flesh and blood, was inadvertently responsible for the death of his mother. What a way to start your life… Little did we know that our tragic incident wasn’t the only one of its kind. I’ve heard reports of similar events taking place at nearby hospitals in the area. I thought this kind of thing would be blasted all over every news channel, but anyone who’s paying attention can see the government’s hand trying to cover up these events. This is why I must get this message to anyone who will listen. I can see them watching me from across the street, and I fear they may be listening into my conversations or hacking into my computer. I don’t know what I saw exactly, things were very hectic, but I have a feeling I may have witnessed a new species being born; an evolution of humankind if you will. If I am right, I am terrified at what the future holds for our world. Our government is already meddling into it, and they obviously want to control the situation, but to what extent? How will all the other governments of the world handle this? I can’t imagine our small pinprick on the globe being the only place this has happened. So please, whoever finds and reads this, tell everyone you know what has happened. I have witnessed something so miraculous and terrifying that I must tell someone, and the possibility of being silenced bolsters my desire to get this information to the public. I can’t even begin to fathom what this will lead to in the years to come, but whatever it is, I fear the outcome is nothing like what we expected. Chapter 1 I guess we should have known this day was coming; the day the entire world was turned on its head. Conspiracy theorists had been screaming at the world that it would happen, while scientists and the like had been vehemently denying such a thing could happen. Neither side had any idea what was coming, nor did they know the whole story. A crucial part of the puzzle was missing. Facts and stories had been lost or forgotten. It wasn’t the end of the world; it was a test for the world. Let me know what you guys think

That would be the Feruchemy use for cadmium, not Allomancy for the Time Bubble. Although that would be one lucky Twinborn... could have infinite breath underwater (Well about as infinite as your supply of Cadmium...) I wonder if I could get away w/ using a Cadmium Time Bubble on slow days at work... that'd be nice. How big is big? Is there solid info about how big one can be? I like Lyrebon's idea, except pair it w/ a Feruchemy ability like Steel or Pewter, and you'd have quite a deadly Twinborn. Depending on how skilled he/she is, and depending on how big of a bubble they could make, it could be possible to take down a room full of enemies (Not just make them lose a few minutes or hours).

A lot of the Pushing metals seem to be facing downwards, while a lot of the pulling metals face upwards. There are a few discrepancies sure, but there may be something to it. Maybe the placements/directions of the spikes compared to the arcs has something to do w/ the pulses of each metal or some physical representation of how it interacts w/ the body. I do see now that Tin/Pewter and Nicrosil/Chromium are the only ones that have a double arc ring thingy. Tin, Pewter and Nicrosil all have something to do w/ enhancing (Or "doubling up") attributes, while Chromium is kind of the odd ball taking away metal reserves. Again a little flawed, but it may be something.

Way... WAY creepy. Haha true, that's kinda why I mentioned that show on Syfy. She's so sensitive w/ all 5 senses it becomes a bad thing.

I don't know which way I lean as far as Hemalurgy being able to steal other magic systems abilities or just the population of Scadrial... BUT... somewhere it's mentioned that there are hundreds of points of the body for Hemalurgy to work. It's just that TLR couldn't ever figure out all of them w/out the knowledge contained w/in the Shard that he held just long enough to make Inquisiters/Kandra/Koloss. Sooooo... it is possible that those hundreds of points we don't really know about could be for each of the other Shard's magic systems. Like I said, I don't really know either way, not quite enough info to make anything definitive , but it's possible. WHAT IF..... Thousands of years (Or maybe just hundreds) there could be research into Hemalurgy on Scadrial. Possibly w/ the help of Sazed through earring communication thing that he can do (I think? Right? I hope I remember that right). Hemalurgy could very well end up being used in a less destructive way by willingly giving up their ability (maybe on their deathbed or horrific accident, almost like an organ donor). Would be a different way to make pseudo Mistborn, since it doesn't HAVE to be as grotesque as it has been (Can be as small as earrings, ends of a sword tip, etc). I know there is a loss in power the longer it's out of the body, but could use a Steelrunner Surgeon or something idk... Anywho, enough of my random thinking... sorry if I've confused any facts, still sorta new to this.

I'd like to eventually see a purely Cosmere book. It would be awesome to see magic users fighting along side one another, or maybe even against each other. Get to see the strengths and weaknesses of each system, and maybe get some explanations on how they relate to each other. I don't know what I'd like to see as an ending, putting Adonalsium back together seems likely, but I just don't know how I would want to see it done. Regardless I'm sure BS would make it the best book ever (in my opinion) because of all the awesomeness of the secrets of the Cosmere being revealed.

Oh wow, I didn't think of it that way. I guess I didn't understand your initial thread you posted. I shall bow to your wisdom :-) Ty for the lesson

Ouch... I feel totally slammed now No j/k, I was just throwing stuff out there. I hadn't seen that post, so thanks for that. But hasn't it been implied that there's a way to enhance Allomancy through Feruchemy? If it's already been puzzled out I apologize, but I could have sworn I've read that some where, and I just took the word "Investiture" to be related to a Shard's "Investiture" of a magic system to the population on a world. I just don't see being a "Walking Aluminum" to be very... exciting. I mean there are already Aluminum Guns, Aluminum Bullets, Aluminum ringed hats, etc. Why not just put a thin sheet of Aluminum over or around anything you don't want pushed or pulled? There was even a recent post about what you were talking about (Idk how to link yet sorry). It's in the Ultimate list of questions. Anyways, basically the reason you can't push/pull a Shardblade is because it's "too heavily invested" where as Metalminds/Hemalurgic Spikes/Metals in the body are considered to be "less invested", or something like that lol. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I'm right and you're wrong, nana nana boo boo... I like the idea of being able to "Invest" something so it can't be manipulated w/ Pushing or Pulling. I just don't see a whole Feruchemical Ability being devoted to something that can already possibly be done, not to mention that most Lurchers or Coinshots wouldn't be strong enough to push or pull them on their own (MAYBE if they had a Nicroburst partner, or Lerasium or it's Alloys becomes more available). Sorry for being long winded, but I've never had the chance to discuss this kind of thing because none of my friends will read the books, and they look at me stupid when I start babbling hehe.

So what about different combinations for Twinborn? I always thought Wax's combo was really convenient being able to manipulate his weight to Steelpush more. Or would it be Steelpush harder? Idk A Bronze Ferring/Tin Misting might be slightly better than a normal Tineye. Would be perfect for a stakeout haha. I know a Nicrosil Ferring isn't fully understood yet, but if I'm correct in my speculation about them storing Allomantic abilities, Twinborns who are Nicrosil Ferrings could be extremely powerful depending on what kind of Misting they are. Again I know it's an assumption, but seems likely with it storing "Investiture"... and it would be WAY cool. With that post "Traversing the Borders of Time Bubbles", I wonder what would happen if a Slider put up a Time Bubble, and a Steelrunner ran through it really fast. Would it be any different than just walking through it? Ok enough of all that... any other ideas? Doesn't have to pertain to Twinborn, it could be a combo between 2 people too.

Haha, I was going to say the same thing Pechvarry But at least it brought up an interesting discussion on Luck Had a couple of others that I thought of though... 1.) Would students be searched for Copper Metalmind before taking tests? Or possibly even a Zinc Metalmind? 2.) Can you imagine what an already fantastic tasting meal would be like if you could use Tin either Allomantically or Feruchemically? (I wonder what compounding those 2 would be like... almost like Rachel on that Syfy show Alphas) I know they are kind of mundane, but still neat to think about how you or I could use Allomancy or Feruchemy in everyday, mundane situations. Or maybe it's just me

Idk... you're responses DO make sense, but I just never thought of Ruin and what he was trying to do as a "bad thing", more of a "necessary evil" kind of thing. Things have to be broken down and destroyed for change to occur. So to me, it doesn't seem like Ruin was intentionally going after those being Snapped. Maybe it was just a side effect from him adding his mojo in w/ Preservation's mojo, idk...

Oh yeah, got confused on the Oracle thing... w/e I'm new at this

Yeah Way of Kings is SO good lol. Just sucks that it gives so much info about the Cosmere, but leaves more questions... /grrrrr Definitely worth the read though - Kiwi

Like most introducing themselves lately, I've previously been a forum lurker and am now deciding to introduce myself (I'm so bored at work...). I've read all of BS's published Cosmere books, some of them twice now. I first found out about him because of Wheel of Time, which was my very first set of books to read for pleasure (Probably would have been smarter to start w/ a stand alone novel, or a trilogy... but nope, not me. I had to start w/ one of the longest book series lol) I love reading all of these wild theories on here, they make me so excited about the next book in the Cosmere. Just the huge scope behind all of his books being part of "something bigger" makes my head asplode sometimes! So... anyways... hope to jump into some of these forum discussions and get to know some of the community here - Kiwi

I agree. While Ruin made the mists thicker and linger during the day, all that really did was kill off plants and expose more people to the mists (Which incidentally made it seem like the mists were attacking people, when in fact that's kinda what the mists were there for anyways. To Snap people). The ones who died from being Snapped were those who couldn't handle it (Very young or very old). I don't remember where I saw it, but the mists Snapping people was much more violent than Snapping people through beatings, so it would make since that people could die from it. The body can only take so much at certain points in one's life. And further more, the percentage of people who were Snapped (including those who died) was still 16% or whatever, which tells me the mists were still of Preservation, and not tainted by Ruin. Yes, but using your own quote against you they "teamed up". There was consent from Preservation to create sentient life. Even though Preservation at this point wasn't much more than a vegetable, wasn't Kelsier holding it temporarily or something? Anywho, my point being I don't think Ruin could forcibly take Preservation's power and strengthen or weaken it's power to Snap people. He could just add his mist to it, or at the very least do something to make the mist thicker and stay during the day.

Haha I'd bet the technology will be advanced enough to have centrifuges... BUT... I would totally make an Allomantic centrifuge just for fun. Not practical, but heck of a lot of fun

Hi everyone! I'm new to these forums and this is my first post! Hehe. So I got to thinking a while back, what would be some cool uses for Allomancy and Feruchemy? Especially when considering the next 2 trilogies are going to be in a modern setting (Like one we live in). There are so many possibilities I'm sure, but just a couple thoughts I've had were: 1.) A Rioter or Soother politician could easily sway a crowd. He/She could also have a Coppercloud/Smoker as a body guard or entourage so no one would know (Unless of course there's a crazy strong Seeker... but whatever). Better yet, the Rioter or Soother is in the entourage, and the politician is actually a Connector Ferring (Duralamin)! Making the crowds trust him more. 2.) A Gasper Ferring athlete could tap their Cadmium Metalmind not only to eliminate the need to breathe while running, swimming, etc... but (from the little I know of athleticism) they could also oxygenate their blood which I think is a good thing is certain sports? I may be wrong =/ 3.) Casinos would have to check people for Chromium Metalminds (Spinner Ferrings) to make sure they don't have unfair advantages. 4.) Oracle Mistings could be the new fortune tellers, palm readers, etc. Anywho I'm sure I could come up with more, but what are some of your ideas? Edit: While these are speculations on uses for Allomancy and Feruchemy, I don't actually assume these will be part of the books in plots or subplots... I just thought it would be a neat discussion
