So just the natural change in spiritweb when an object changes? What ritual "enchanting" should be able to do (in my opinion) is take a quality from the spiritweb of something and put it on a different spiritweb.
-
That's not how spiritweb works, though. Each gene gives objects properties.
-
I mean, yes, but spells aren't made out of spiritweb. So you wouldn't put them in the soul, you'd just stick them on top.
-
I was talking about what I personally think (in general) an enchantment is, actually. The spell is something extra that's added. That actually could be possible, I think. You could take a spiritual gene that says "hot" and put it on the rock and it would be hot.
-
I envision enchantment as putting a spell into an object/location/person. This makes it so that the spell can be used more than once without having to re-create the spell.
-
No, it gives the ability to store and release heat in brass. That's not the same thing.
-
How could you do this? That's not something that spiritweb naturally does...
-
Yes, exactly. That's why enchanting has to be an Innate thing.
-
The way Mac described it, enchanting was creating a spiritweb to be exactly the way you want it to be. I agree with you exactly on this point. To add another analogy, it should be like genetic modification. You can extract certain genes, and even know to an extent what they do, but you can't create new ones.

@I think I am here.

When I said a bridge, I literally meant a bridge. I was envisioning something that would be able to take Ritual magic and Natural magic and make them work together. Yes, the spellcasting is somewhat Ritualistic. That's the point! That's what it's connection to Ritual magic is. The spells themselves would alter the world in a very Naturalistic way. I think that we should not be saying that people are fabricating the spiritwebs of objects. That should be something that's really, really, really hard to do (like, no one knows how), similar to subatomic particle manipulation.
-
Ritual magic is writing stuff down. Innate would be speaking spells aloud.

This sounds interesting. I'll play as Rumpelstiltskin. Expect a bio later.

We were saying it was going to be more spell based.

The alleystorm hit the north end of the city and began to move west. Enolc looked up. "Uh-oh," he muttered. "Are those the people you were talking about, Red?" @I think I am here.

The taller handerfle reached into his belt and pushed a button. A humming began to emanate from one of the boxes. "Ssstay clossse to me, Keyed," he hissed. "We're ssshielded now." A small figure ran out of the streets. Then another. Then four more. They kept coming, a light-brown wave sweeping toward the constables, hyperactive and near unstoppable. The breadmunks had arrived. In just a second, they had reached the first constable. They swarmed him, pulling him down into the mass of warm, delicious bodies.
-
The voice sighed. "I think we had best be leaving, folks." The larger handerfle pointed his measuring device at the newcomers. It flashed green, both times. "That'sss a relief..." he muttered. "Hey, bosss, do we have backup in the city?"
-
The taller one turned around and spread his wings. "Help the Keyed on, Arsssek. Then get the other one."
-
The taller handerfle pulled out some sort of device and pointed it at AJ. It beeped once, and a light on it flashed green. He then turned and pointed it at Thought. Immediately the box began to flash red and beep rapidly. The handerfle nearly dropped the box in shock. The smaller one began shouting something in some sort of snake language. He seemed agitated. "Calm down," said the voice. "It's Tamika, remember?" The handerfle stopped shouting, but didn't relax. He shot a fearful look at Thought, then turned and spoke to his taller friend. The taller one sighed. "Fine. I'll carry her, if it bothersss you ssso much."

Sam began panicking. Tom Joebob was here? This was bad. Very bad. He couldn't stay here. That was obvious. As bad as being on the run again would be, it would be better than going back. He unfurled his wings, ready to make his escape. All of a sudden, he felt a burning desire to stay here. Stay and guard the strange woman that he had seen earlier. He paused, wings open. Where had that come from? ~~~~~~ The two figures had begun to get closer. As they approached the dock, their figure began to become more distinguishable to the people standing there. After a few moments, they arrived, landing with a thump on the wooden pier. They looked somewhat similar to Sam, with their shiny black scales and feathery wings. Unlike Sam, whose features were only somewhat serpentine, their entire head and body were that of a snake. The taller one straightened up and slithered over, closely followed by the other. "We have been inssstructed to carry you to our massstersss ssship."
-
Reylf yelped, jumping into the air and floating into the rafters.
-
Sam began to feel a rising panic. "Is Tom Joebob coming here? Yes or no?" ~~~~~ "Wait there for now. Talk to Sam, if you get bored. But it shouldn't be too much longer..." The microphone crackled for a second. "Ah! They have almost arrived! Looks like you won't need to wait very long at all." In the distance, two shapes emerged and began to fly towards the docks.
-
"Half-handerfle," corrected Sam. "Full handerfles are... snakier. But what do you mean, you came here to meet Tom Joebob?" On the phone the voice spoke up. "Hello! I see you've reached the docks."
-
Sam's eyes widened. "Why..." At that moment, the phone rang.
