    I was referring to the crystal here. If the Voidbringers are using them, they'd need a reason. Thade's perspective may be skewed, but his arguments should be valid. Also, what are you thinking the 'corruption' of the crystal would entail? I have my own ideas, but I'd like to hear what you think about it first.

    Silence's gaze darkened, but he said nothing. He turned towards the mimes. Bind them, he said, and the mimes moved forward with ropes.

    "No," he whispered, eyes unfocusing slightly. "No, I told them. Don't bother me. Leave me alone..." He shuddered.

    You are my prisoners now, Silence said calmly. Allow my mimes to take you captive, and none of you will be harmed.

    Thomas stared at the house for a long moment before responding. "It's yours... I think. Mine shouldn't be ringing..." He trailed off, still staring.

    The first mime growled as his friends and colleagues were hacked to the ground. These people needed to be stopped. Now. Xino collapsed to the ground, the onslaught proving too much for him, he Narrated. The mimes held Xino down as Silence strode over to them. He pulled out his gun and put it to Xino's temple. Stop, he said, the words echoing out across the landscape. Or else.

    With a burst of Stormlight, Draug slammed into the ground. "What's going on?" he called out as he stood up. He stuck his hand out to the side and summoned Sae as a Shardblade. "Has anyone been- hurt?"

    He grinned. "Not hurt you. Only slow you down." Behind her, one of the mimes got in a lucky hit, slashing a nasty wound across Xino's arm. He dropped the sword and yelped. Flames shot out of the wound as his powers began to heal him, but it was too late- in that moment, the fourth mime had snuck up behind him and yanked Shadow off his shoulder.

    The mime staggered forwards, collapsing against the wall. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, pain flaring in his chest. The edges of the wound closed up, he hissed with the voice of a Narrator. He pushed off the wall and mimed throwing a dagger towards Star. The dagger appeared midflight, skylight glinting off its deadly surface.

    The mime paused as Star attacked him, holding up his hands and conjuring an invisible wall between him and Star. Two more mimes rushed Xino, who shifted Shadow to one shoulder to give him more room to swing his sword. Each mimed drawing a sword from a scabbard- and, as they ran, the swords appeared in their hands. They met Xino's blade in a clash of supernatural metal, knocking him back a step as they did so.

    Thwack. The pieces of log fell to the sides, falling off the stump Thomas had set it on. He grinned, wiping the sweat off his brow, then picked up another log. He held the axe in front of him, judging the position, then swung. Thwack. He paused for a moment, leaning on his axe for support. It was backbreaking work, splitting firewood- and this was only one of the chores he'd had to do today. Of course, he could just use his Power. Then it would all be done in an instant. But he hadn't chosen this life for comfort. He stood up again, rest over, and raised the axe to swing again- when he felt something. He froze, ax still in midswing, then turned to look at the house. Somewhere inside, a phone was ringing. @Blessing of Potency

    Enough, said Silence with a hint of annoyance in his voice. He fired once, destroying the forcefield, then shot another bolt at Star's sword. Besides him, Xino took the opportunity to escape, dodging around him, leaping at the portal- and crashing into a barrier stretching across it. See? said Silence. You can't escape. He snapped his fingers, and four mimes appeared around him. He gestured towards Xino and Star. Go for it, he said. The mimes grinned. One cracked his knuckles. Then they rushed to attack.

    Silence looked at her, one eyebrow raised. Does that... help? he asked. Or were you just doing that out of frustration? Your friends will not be able to get past me, I assure you. Xino's expression darkened and he raised his sword as if to swing it at Silence. Silence held up a finger. Ah-ah-ah, Xino. You wouldn't want me to shoot you with this, would you? He pointed the gun at Xino. Powered by Narrativium, you see, he said. One shot, and you are cut from existence forevermore. Not an experience I would risk, if I were you.

    Silence sighed. I knew you were going to say that. Xino's expression hardened. "Whatever else, you're not getting the portal." He swung his sword upwards, shooting a wave of destructive energy at the portal and Silence. With a movement so quick they could barely see it, Silence flicked out a gun and fired. There was a burst of dark light, and Xino's blast vanished. Now that wasn't very nice, said Silence mildly. You should be more polite. Or would you rather I shoot you? He raised the gun for emphasis.

    Silence shrugged. You can leave, if you want, he said. But you'll have to leave her with me. He gestured towards Shadow. Xino's eyes widened with horror. "No. No..."

    All of a sudden, Draug felt a familiar pressure on his mind. Whispers, barely audible, echoing and twisting. Sha-thoexis's voice. What? he thought with confusion. Sha-thoexis never attacked him while awake anymore. He hadn't heard her voice for weeks- unless you counted dreams, which he didn't. Why would that have changed now? Because he was high up? But no- he'd flown up here before without hearing so much as a sigh. And now they were getting stronger, the voices echoing in his mind and mixing to form a greater whole. It beat upon his mind in a familiar rhythm, pulsing, oppressive- ...danger... Wait. What was that? For a moment, it had almost sounded like... ...danger... ...a word? That makes no sense, he thought, confused. ...danger... It was unmistakable now, although he still couldn't here what was being said. Sae? he thought. Do you hear...? ...danger... What? she asked back. A voice, said Draug, uneasily. It's saying something. I can't hear... ...danger... Draug's eyes widened. ...danger... Sae! he thought, fear beginning to flow through him. Something's happening. ...danger... An attack? thought Sae, concern lacing her voice. ...danger... I don't know, said Draug, lashing himself towards the school, but I'm not risking it. I can't lose anyone else, he thought to himself as he fell. I can't.

    Silence stepped fully out of the portal, coming into view as he left the veiling effect. There's no need to have that attitude, he said with amusement. I have nothing but gratitude towards you for your creation of this oh-so-useful portal here. Yes, I will find this very useful.

    An invisible hand moved out of the portal lazily as Star moved to step through, pushing her back. Fools, said Silence.

    Xino jogged back over to where the portal- which he had veiled- lay. He'd taken a risk by coming here, he knew, but it seemed as though that had payed off. If Silence was going to have captured Shadow, he would have had to been faster. Of course, he could still show up; they weren't out of the woods yet. "Here," said Xino, stopping at the location of the hidden portal, waiting for Star to catch up.
