  1. X's avatar stands around awkwardly, uncertain of how to proceed.
  2. "Everyone have a worker?" chirped Nya. "Yes? Okay then, let's go!" She stepped lightly off the edge and started to fly towards the center. In sync, the squad of workers lifted off and followed after her. "Remarkable," Jeffery's father murmured as he gazed into a blue stone. "Truly, you have a gift..." He held it up to one eye and rubbed it gently. "Made of multiple hearts fused together, I see." Jeffery's head jerked up at the comment, and his father chuckled. "Surprised I managed to guess? Don't worry, your secret is safe with me. But tell me, where do you get all the hearts from? There's at least thirty or forty packed into this one alone." "Ashley," said Jeffery, relaxing slightly. "She runs a breeding program on an isolated subverse in... well, I'll tell you later. The lab should be safe from eavesdroppers, but you never know. Better safe than sorry, when you can afford it. Anyways, I..." He trailed off as he caught his father's expression. The old man's eyes were closed, and the gemstone in his hand was glowing a deep blue. An expression of intense concentration was painted across his face. A moment later, his father's eyes shot open, the irises painted completely black. And then the gemstone exploded.
  3. X's avatar let out a hastily improvised war cry as he detonated multiple darkness bombs.
  4. Nameless spent the next three minutes looking for it.
  5. But the students were geniuses, so that wouldn't be a problem.
  6. Narrator X's avatar knocked it out of the air with wind.
  7. Narrator X files a formal complaint with the Council and executes said Narrator.
  8. "A Narrator could just revert whatever happened," pointed out X's avatar.
  9. "You give wizards too much credit," said X's avatar.
  10. The students nodded thoughtfully as they tried to parse what Nameless had just said.
  11. "Good! That's great." Nya took a breath. "Just grab ahold of one of the workers, and they'll carry you across."
  12. "None, really. Apart from the holed, of course. The Hyxali don't have many enemies." The small group of Hyxali fluttered into the opening and landed gracefully on the edge. The group was mostly workers, save one. "Hi!" she said brightly. "I'm Nya. Uh, you guys need to get across the gap, right?"
  13. "I don't think they're trying to stop us from crossing," said Rekaerb, pointing across the gap. "If I'm not mistaken, those are Hyxali coming to fly us across. The bridge must just be out for some reason."
  14. Rekaerb followed Fadran through the various white stone labyrinths of the outpost, constantly fighting the urge to teleport to Abigail to see if she was alright. She's hidden, he reminded himself. Checking up on her would only give her away. He could be watching at any moment. And, of course, even if he were to find her in danger, there was precious little he could do about it. Ridiculous, he thought to himself. I'm hardly the most powerful being here, yet I have to follow these stupid noninterventionist policies. All of a sudden, the group halted, jolting Rekaerb out of his thoughts. "Hmm?" he said out loud distractedly. "Why...?" He trailed off as his gaze took in the central cavern, the giant pillar in the center, and the pointed absence of any bridge to convey them across the gap.
