"Gerald's soul was bound to the amulet. Q was on death's door as you passed through the portal a few moments ago, but you brought her here just in time."

"No," interjected Fate. "But it can bring them back from the brink of death."

"A dream crystal," replied Gerald. "A small one, but still fairly potent."

"And, fortunately, we were able to recover your memories- that was how we knew you had lost them. It should be the matter of moments to retrieve them."

The spike instantly dissolved into essence, a formless black mass that oozed into Maverick's soul. It felt restless.

"Well, it likely isn't relevant," said Vapor's grandfather. "Whatever the reason, you're out of her clutches now, and that's what matters."

"But she didn't stop you from leaving? Strange. Because she didn't want to or because she couldn't, I wonder...?"

"So... you ran away?"

"As in, she let you go freely?"

"If you don't control it, it will run rampant through your spirit and destroy you. If you resist it, it won't integrate. And also possibly destroy you."

The old man nodded. "It was. We thought that we would have to go to war to save you."

"We learned that you had lost your memory," the old man said soberly. "That could only mean one thing- the person who was to teach you had betrayed you."

"Push it into yourself," said the specter. "Don't resist it. That's very important. But also make sure to control it."

The man stopped a few paces away. "I am indeed. I have been looking for you!"

Adrastos withdrew. Vapor stood alone in the empty Void for a time. Something approached. An old man, striding through the darkness with purpose. His eyes lit up when he saw Vapor. "Vapor!" he called.

X's avatar was extremely tired of circles.

"Yes. I can contact him now, if you wish."

The air sparkled as Fate appeared. "Congratulations on your success," he remarks.

"He may know more about your past. Perhaps he knows or can figure out what happened to your memories."

"He no longer hosts the Witherlord," continued Adrastos. "He was trapped, a prison inside a prison, for a very long time... but he escaped."

Gerald's soul flows from the amulet and reforms into his floating squid form. The arm reattaches itself happily. Gerald blinks in surprise as knowledge from the arm trickles into his mind. "Huh," he says. "I died." His gaze turns to the amulet Ellis dropped. It seems dimmer now, as if drained of power. He picks it up. It is indeed a dream crystal; he realizes that now. He winces internally as he remembers Y snatching it from him. "How did you get this?" he asked. "From the... person who had it last."

"He merged with the spirit of the Witherlord, gaining and amplifying its power."
