  1. As the floor feel out from under her, Grace transitioned. She hit the ground hard amidst a rockfall of ghostly debris. She took a deep breath, taking a mental inventory of her various pieces to make sure they were all in the right place. Then she forced herself to her feet. In the physical world, the dust was settling. She could see bright green lights flickering. Gradually they began to go out. Ji and Elya, thought Grace, looking around to see where they had fallen.
  2. The survey listened intently. It was very quiet. The wanderer rubbed her head. "I have no idea. Where am I?"
  3. There was an approaching scream. The wanderer careened into reality, tumbling painfully onto the floor near Nameless.
  4. Well, a long time ago the luxsprites built up an empire of connected universes using their light-ordered energy. (Light in terms of TLT fundamental metaphysics means existence; darkness is nonexistence.) Opposing them were the withergeists, of chaotic-dark. They yearned to tear down existence, but they were too scattered against the luxsprites' might. Then, one day, a luxsprite by the name of Xinoehp made a terrible mistake. In an attempt to mix the two energies together, he accidentally let the Witherlord into the very heart of luxsprite civilization. With glee the delicate network of luxite crystals was shattered, and withergeists released on the unsuspecting citizenry. Before very long, the withergeists had attacked and corrupted every luxsprite they could find. The surviving races fought back as best they could. Unfortunately, a new threat had arisen with the fall of the luxsprites; Narrators. With their chaotic-light power, they reshaped universes on a whim. Caught between two impossibly powerful forces, there was little the survivors could do but die. It was in this dark time that the first mimes appeared. Led by Silence, they used their ordered-dark abilities to seal away the Narrators and the withergeists away in a prison universes wide. Because of the sheer size of the prison, it was nicknamed the Longest Thread. That was an impossibly long time ago. For much of that time, the Witherlord was without a host. Recently, however, he has stepped up his activities with the goal of breaking free. Where Drozor fits is as a guardian of one of the crystals within the Luxsprite network. When the crystal shattered, he shattered with it, forming the six skeins. So they would remain - shattered - from ancient times to today. Given their similarity to the already established elementals, and their capability of binding the Witherlord, this is the explanation that makes the most sense in the context of what exists. "We shall see about that, when next we meet again," the Knight declared, standing up to depart.
  5. All of TLT is in the same grouping, and travel in and out is blocked off. There is not really room for travel between discordant universes. Anywhere they could have come from would have been saturated with Narrator energy, which would be sufficient to support them in whatever universe they went to subsequently- it doesn't really track that they would absorb luxite energy, especially given how exceedingly rare it is. In addition, the power they would have absorbed would be sentient elementals with a vested interest in not being swallowed up. The Knight shook his head. "Your power is antithetical to that of the Witherlord's. He will not be able to corrupt it. The same is not true of any other source of power."
  6. One by one, the walls of the building fell. A few moments after her working began, Grace could feel the Pacis fighting it. Her clumsy fumbling was no match for their trained precision- however, the damage was done.
  7. A wonderful story. A story that makes the world look brighter.
  8. I I I The survey dripped with ink. As it fell to the ground it vanished into mist. A story?
  9. Grace gritted her teeth. This wasn't working. Too many enemies. How could there be so many enemies? With a start, she realized that her vision has drained of color. What...? Was a Mystic messing with her perceptions? Even as she wondered, however, she felt the true source bleeding ice from her hand. She shivered, forcibly putting the knife away. For a few moments she stood in the Enchanted Realm, watching Ji and Elya fight as color returned. Even with her, they were still outnumbered. Surely there was something Grace could do to help? Well... There was one thing she could think of. They were on the second floor of a building, after all. And her knife was full of the blood of her enemies. She certainly was not as practiced with earth magic, but she should still be able to make it work. With a deep breath, she transitioned into the physical realm and laid her palms flat on the ground. Move, she imagined, and pushed the thought into her gloves. They flashed red through her glasses as the building began to quake.
  10. Scribbles appeared on the survey's surface. Crossed out words, badly drawn images, and lots and lots of question marks.
  11. The Knight shrugged. "Sure, why not? It will give me the best perspective. And I'll be able to help you with your extended elemental abilities." They are the water, though. Luxsprite energy is about as fundamental as it comes. No, said the survey to Moni. I... was utterly destroyed. I can feel that much. So much of me... gone? Ashes? Oh, lights, I never expected this...
  12. Me, the survey replied, although it did not seem certain.
  13. I... I don't know. I used to be able to see everything. Do everything. I... Where did it go?
  14. Something is happening, the survey said. ... Many things.
  15. Yes, that was badly worded. Sorry. "I can help you practice," the Knight replied. "I... have some experience with elementals such as yourself." Cool! There thing is, all the universes that are contained within the Longest Thread share the same underlying metaphysics. They should be able to use their energy in any of them, should they not?
  16. "Before, all of you did each part of the binding separately. If you instead specialize, you can get the beginnings of the binding up almost instantaneously." What do you mean by world sets? And when would the skeins have had opportunity to travel between them? The survey felt troubled.
  17. Well, what would be an example of this absorbtion? Drozor would not be a luxsprite, indeed. That is a race, not a class. "That one split into only four. Yours split into six, for a reason we have not yet discerned. Elementals of light and dark, with the additional power over knowledge and imagination, respectively." The reason it split into six is because Drozor was involved. You are opposed?
  18. Grace continued to stab the other soldiers, popping in and out of the Enchanted Realm as needed. Her soul felt a brief chill with each soul she snuffed out. She pushed it down. This had to be done.
  19. Absorbing native energy is not a requirement to manifest in other universes. All universes are guaranteed to run under the same metaphysics due to Silence maintaining the framework that the luxsprites created. Would you rather that Drozor have stolen the power that he obtained, or would you rather have had him be the rightful guardian of it? "When the crystal was shattered, it broke into four pieces," the Knight continued. The picture of the crystal split into four orbs, colored amaranth, aquamarine, cerulean, and cerise. "The power was divided into four elemental spirits- one of fire, one of water, one of air, and one... of earth." As he said the last word, his voice seemed to tremble slightly for a moment. But it was gone. "These spirits were, of course, able to manipulate their specific element- but they could do much, much more." He moved around the table, touching each orb one at a time as he explained. "Amaranth. Elemental of Fire. Able to produce and control energy of all forms." "Aquamarine. Elemental of Water. Able to alter the flow of time." "Cerulean. Elemental of Air. Able to bend space and move between worlds." He paused, and another consultant finished for him. "Cerise. Element of Earth. Able to manipulate matter and rearrange reality." The Knight did not continue for a moment, his gaze fixated upon the final pinkish-red orb. Did Nameless abandon Moni?
