  1. The void eyed man watches events transpire with a scowl.
  2. A skeleton slammed into him from behind, trying to throw him off balance.
  3. He awoke to bony hands on his ankles, dragging him forwards into the quicksand pit.
  4. "Nothing will be out of place or surprising!" the inspector sighed contentedly.
  5. "It will all be compiled into a complete model of Onyx's kingdom so that anything and everything can be predicted."
  6. "Information about your mental capabilities, emotional responses... I think I gave you the whole list earlier? Anyways, I haven't gotten anything from the results yet. They still need to be analyzed."
  7. "It's in the center of the realm, of course," answered the investigator.
  8. The swords decapitate two of the skeletons, but their bodies keep grasping. More skeletons pour forth from the quicksand pit, trying to drag the still-sleeping forms of Sequence, the ally, and the adventurer into the quicksand.
  9. They awoke to see the void eyed man standing over them, sand dripping from his clothes. "Darn," he said. "Not enough of a head start, looks like." His sword condensed into his hand in a spray of blue, black, and silver. Behind him, in the quicksand pit, skeletal figures began to claw their way onto solid ground.
  10. The second indication was that five minutes for Tocf had somehow been an hour for everybody else. And thus chronology was restored. "Yes!" said the inspector, pleased. "You are now free to go." "Fear not: it will not be graded."
  11. This was an hour later, so the chronology of the thread decided to go back and see if anyone else wanted to say anything before the hour was up.
  12. "Perhaps an hour or so. That's why you need to answer, answer, answer!" Questions flashed by in an unending stream.
  13. A new survey appeared before Tocf had finished speaking. The next question appeared. A second later, it was replaced by a new one. "That one's a few hundred questions in. You'll get there eventually."
  14. "Everything," the inspector replied. "Answer quickly. Don't think too hard. You have only a second to answer each question."
  15. A survey appeared in front of the adventurer. A pen appeared in his hand. The first question was What is your name? "That's a misconception. Surveys are, in fact, morally neutral. It is how they are used that determines whether they are good or evil."
  16. "Oh!" exclaimed the inspector. "I almost forgot to explain what you'll be doing. You'll be taking a survey!"
  17. "Well, self-reporting is hardly accurate, is it? This will give me hard data."
  18. "Sit down, sit down," waved the inspector. "The domes go over the head, as you could probably have guessed."
  19. The inspector led the group into a room filled with folding chairs and folding tables. Metallic domes that looked about the right size to fit over a head hung down from the ceiling.
  20. "Good. I'm busy enough already." The inspector opened the door to the main area of the clinic. "All of you, come with me."
