ah, but then circular logic kicks in: if your weakness is situations that could kill you if you had no PI, then those situations are actually dangerous to you, and therefore the weakness still works. And calamity takes away your powers because he's annoyed at your logical paradox.

while none of those can be excluded, the most likely explanation is simply that since all men on roshar are - by law and tradition - illiterate thugs, she's not interested in them. the "raped" theory however fits more with the theme that radiants have to be "broken" somehow. Stilll, so far we don't have any relly solid data. EDIT: there's also the fact that by being an "eretic" she would scare away most suitors. at least, the important ones would probably be scared by it, and those who would still want to go on are probably too lowborn to realistically marry her. Jasnah's roialty in a world where those things matter, she can't marry anyone. And while she may be willing to break a tradition there, potential suitors wouldn't dare to approach her.

welcome. don't forget that the mistborn saga isn't done yet: band of mourning forwards the plot of shadows of self, while secret history (yes, that's the title of the book, "mistborn: secret history") shows some very spoileriffic stuff. I think it's available only as ebook. There is also warbreaker, that you can buy in paper version or you can download for free from sanderson's site here: http://brandonsanderson.com/warbreaker-introduction/. He put it for free as a sorrt of free trial. then there are a few books that are not cosmere, but still definitely worth checking: the reckoners saga, the alcatraz saga, and the rithmatist. And there are a tons of short stories that only appeared in ebooks. And someone will correct me if i forgot anything. -

One spike man or more spike man? [SH spoilers]
king of nowhere replied to Mistform's topic in Mistborn
Ruin sent the inquisitors to kill the keepers and make spikes from them. he got spikes for all feruchemical abilities. kelsier was already a mistborn. So I suppose he should have 16 spikes, one for each feruuchemical ability. unless he allready figured out how to get more than one ability in one spike, in which case there's no telling how many he may have. As for how he returned, I suppose it's as good a guess as any. -

oh, and i forgot to mention that you are also wasting an expensive metal to feel guilty about yourself. You could have been a rich mistborn. -
i think you are confusing a sliver with a shardholder. truth to be told, i'm a bit hazy on the specifics myself, but they are two different things. bearing a shard is different from having limited access to the power of a shard.

or you could alloy it with gold. True, it's not totally useless, but burning gold will help a lot in regretting your life choices of not becoming a mistborn. -

You. "I wish to know what is the best wish I can ask, and to have it fulfilled" Genie: "The best wish you could ask was that one you asked. That's its fulfillment". And it disappears in a flash of logic -
it probably is. the fact that the number is found in many phenomena means that there are underlying reasons for it that are tied to the nature of mathematics - namely, the fact that if you take a rectangle with a ratio of phi between the sides, and you build a square on its longest side, you get another rectangle with a ratio of phi, so that ratio tend to appear on stuff that grows one bit at a time. the cosmere has our same math, so we should find it there too.

Nope. I specified that they had to have a temperature of 300 K, uniformly distributed, and they are made of nothing but carbon. On the other hand, I already found the trick. I specified that the diamond have to appear from nowhere. That would imply magic, as the physical laws are constrained by the conservation of mass-energy. But, there is a way around that. Per the denizens of quantum physics, the law of conservation of mass-energy can be broken for extremely small masses and times, and a mass can appear from nowhere and disappear, provided the product of the time in which the violation of the conservation law and the ammount of mass by which it was violated is smaller or equal to the plank constant, which is somewhere around 10-34. So, the diamonds will be created as I asked, as the result of a quantum fluctuation, and the physical laws will be respected. As the mass of those diamonds was around 10-2 kg, they will disappear in around 10-32 seconds. Unfortunately, this is a potentially viable outcome from every other wish I've read here. Invoking quantum fluctuations seems definitely like cheating on the genie's part. But it is thematically appropriate for my very scientific-oriented wish. -

everyone who is in danger due to lack of food will receive food. that will be taken from their neighbors. who will know why their food disappeared and who it was who wished it to disappear. As for me, i am afraid i will have to be very specific: define a "small diamond" as a mass of a carat (0.2 grams, as per the international metric system) of pure carbon (as in, the element with 6 protons, as per the periodic table of elements; don't try to give me a guy named diamond or something) in face-centered cubic confuguration. Said mass will have perfect crystal structure, and all the electrons will be in their ground orbitals (see chemical definition; you may give me a diamond with the electrons triggered to make it decompose otherwise), with the thermal energy being distributed solely as bond vibration; no single bond will have a vibrational energy greater than that of a photon with a wavelenght of 2.5 micrometers (international system, standard scientific definitions of photon and wavelenght; that's more than enough energy for it to be at room temperature, if you're wondering). Said mass will have a perfectly cubic shape, no impurity of other element whatsoever, no distinctive mark whatsoever, just a cube. The carbon atoms will be 98.9% 12C and 1.1% 13C (that has to be specified cause you may want to give me a diamond made from unstable, radioactive carbon isotopes). the above mentioned mass of carbon will be at a perfectly uniform temperature of 300 Kelvin (again, as per the international metric system; don't try to give me a superheated diamond that will instantly evaporate), at a pressure of 1 atmosphere (again, international metric system; don't try to give me a supercompressed diamond that will instantly explode) and will have a speed equal to 0 m/s and an angular moment of 0 rad/s (international metric system) in a reference system that has my body as immobile the reference. I wish 100 small diamonds (as per the definition above) to appear in the palm of my hand (as per the common meaning of 'above the palm of my hand, just touching the skin, their wheight-force in equilibrium with the elastic reaction from my body tissue) right now; they are to be conjured from nothing, not taken away from somewhere else. the genie is to provide no other effect; no other element has to be conjured or moved, no energy has to be manipulated in any way except for that required to make the 100 diamonds appear in my hand - that includes, but is not limited to, removing thermal energy from somewhere to make the diamonds, or causing any mobster to know that i have a moderate fortune in diamonds, or creating clues that may make it look like those diamonds were stolen. the air that was in the place where the diamonds appear is to disappear into nothingness, and not, for example (but not limited to) cause an explosion. Ok, let's see if some of you can think of something that i missed. EDIT: While this is not part of the wish per se, I must specify that i will express that wish alone in the safety of my home, and definitely not when i am walking in a slum where somedoby may stab me to get my diamonds. -

Those sheats did mold to fit with different blades, so they cannot be aluminium. I wouldn't be surprised if they contained aluminium, though. As for pure aluminium, it's not so difficult to get it because it can be soulcast. I'd think likely someone would have noticed if aluminium jewelry stopped shardblades or something that obvious. more subtle effects, of course, cannot be ruled out.

Xbox One slowly becoming windows PC
king of nowhere replied to mattig89ch's topic in Entertainment Discussion
microsoft is trying to convert everything to windows 10. they are forcing everybody to update to it, and once you have wondows 10, updates happen automatically and you cannot refuse them. in fact, sometimes your pc may reboot to install upgrades while you're in the middle of doing stuff. and it will go on for hours. there is an option somewhere to stop it doing so, but it is not the default setting and you ahve to look for it. in theory, they do it because it will cost less in maintenance, having a single operative system everywhere. which makes sense. what sucks is that, if they want to force everybody to use the same operative system, they should at least make sure that it actually works. The best I can say about windows 10 is that it is an improvement over windows 8. I'd keep windows 7 if I could. or even old windows xp. really, sometimes my pc stops working for half a minute and if i open task manager, i see some host process taking up 90% of my memory capability. I don't want to know why it needs to do it when all other windows versions worked fine with much lower system requirements. Also, you may be interested to know that windows 10 automatically passes informations on how you use your pc to microsoft. and you can't turn that option off. the best you can is to only send basic telemetry. i don't remember where the option for that is. it is very hidden so most people won't find it, and the default is that everything you do will be sent to microsoft. that's some real heap of crap they are feeding us. I'd switch to linux, if i wasn't too lazy to spend some days trying to figure out how to do it. -
i don't think anyone thought of it before, but it seems very, very far-fetched. I have a hard time seeing iadon having a special connection to aona.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
king of nowhere replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
when you see a friend playing the last missions of the starcraft 2 campaign, where kerrigan became a "goddess", and you are disappointed that she's nowhere near comparable to a shard and possibly even weaker than the lord ruler. -
I was thinking a thick slab over the chest, which is the bigger target and the most important to cover. it still leaves the arms and legs free to move, so not too bad for mobility, and it probably doubles the amount of punishment you can take on your chest. EDIT: If you say you've worn lot of kevlar, I assume you are in the army and you know better than me, but I am very surprised by the statement that a shardbearer should be able to get close without getting shot. I mean, it makes sense in urban figthing where often the range of engagement is the other side of the street, but in open field? even if marksmanship is not the best under stress and against a moving target, I'd assume a platoon of soldiers equipped with machine guns should be able to score at least a few hits on a man running towards them, if nothing else just for statistics. Unless you are suggesting that the shardbeares closes in under the cover of suppression fire, which still supports my view that shardbearers would work better in conjunction with modern weapons and tactics rather than they would if they tried to fight a modern army the same way they fought on the shattered plains.
