Fecuchemist for me as well. Mostly because I find the thought of swallowing metal shards a bit gross. And if left in your system too long, they make you sick besides.

I've heard from Jim Butcher himself that he actually really dislikes Storm Front (book #1) and wishes he could re-write it. *nod nod* I've also heard from him, and many fans, that the series really only gets going and becomes good after Summer Knight (book #4). For me personally, my favorite in the whole series so far has been Fool Moon (book #2) but then that's because I can never get enough werewolves. And I'm certainly going to read other books in his Steampunk series! I just didn't think The Aeronaut's Windlass was anything remarkable. Of course, this all depends on when, and if, he's going to write some more...it's been ages since there was a book update on his website!

I'm in the same boat, accept it was in college and we were asked to find the deeper, hidden meaning in the poem "Little Red Wheelbarrow" by William Carlos Williams. It's 8 freakin' lines about a wheelbarrow for cripes sake! Sometimes, the poem is just that, a POEM. No deeper meaning needed folks! *eyeroll* My gripes with college English literature classes aside, I really dislike Romeo and Juliet. I don't think the writing is well done, the characters are unimaginative, and the whole "love story" is just stupid and unrealistic. I just don't understand why, when non-bookish people mention Shakespeare, it's always the first of his plays they reference. He's got many others that are so much better!

I think they're fine; it's up to an individual author if they feel it's necessary or not. As for me, I sort of used a pen name for my book. I used my first initial and my last name when I self-published my first book. I'll likely keep with that for any others I may publish. I didn't want to use my entire first name because 1. it's long and 2. no one but my mother calls me by it so it's not the 'normal' me. I didn't use a nickname of my first name either because some people know me by one nickname, while others know me by a different one and I didn't want to have to choose which one to use since it would likely confuse people. So I opted for my initial. I liked the anonymity of it since 'E' doesn't allude to either gender.

As I said in my intro, I'm Elinox and it's pronounced "ee-lie-knocks". Here's my writerly backstory: I’ve been an avid reader ever since I first picked up a book, starting out with stories being read to me as a child. In my teens and throughout college, I read everything I could get my hands on in the genres of science fiction, fantasy and mythology. Writing is something I really enjoy and I like to think I can do it fairly well. I completed my very first original novel in 2014, after years of off again-on again writing it and that feeling of final completion was absolutely wonderful. That story is in need of some serious editing so it's been shelved for now. I successfully finished my second novel by winning NaNoWriMo in 2015. The concept for the story came from the idea that I’ve never been happy with the story of Little Red Riding Hood, so I wanted to try it from a different perspective so I wrote 'House of Red'. I went on to self-publish it this past May! And I just participated in, and won, NaNoWriMo 2017 with my 'Bonita Blue' story. That one is centered around scuba diving and has mermaids. I hope to edit it and offer it to agents this spring.

To be fair, they've welcomed me too. Just cautioned about cookies. Bake and let's eat; says I!

Aah, thank you for the explanation link! Also, I wouldn't trust baked goods from, say, this guy: But I figured fellow Sanderson fans would be safe!

Actually, everyone I know who read his Aeronaut's Windlass hated it. I didn't care for it either; just didn't think it was decent Steampunk writing. *shrug*

1. What would your power/secondary power be? I'm going with my favorite answer: the ability to shapeshift into any non-human animal. My secondary power would be communicating with various animal species. 2. What is your weakness? Goats. I'll be honest, I just think they're creepy. 3. What is your cheesy name? Squirrel Girl...wait, no, that's been taken. Transfurence. Get it? 4. In what way does your inevitable evil manifest itself (why do ordinary people really hate you?) I change into an animal form to commit various petty crimes for fun: theft, murder, etc.

Reckoners Board Game - Kickstarter date change and sample art
elinox replied to TheKittyOfAtlantis's topic in The Reckoners
That artwork is killer! Thanks for sharing it! (*eagerly awaits the Kickstarter*) -
I was a bit intimidated by the length of Way of Kings, so I tackled Warbreaker first. I loved it, and it hooked me on everything-Sanderson from then on!

Baked good masquerading as traps?!?! NOT FAIR!!! Also, as a side question from a newbie to the forums; what's with all the ooklas?
-
That's awesome! Thanks for creating and sharing it!

I participated and won NaNoWriMo 2017! However, it distracted me from preparing for Oathbringer so now I've got to read up on Way of Kings and Words of Radiance before diving back into the Cosmere!

Posting here so I can be updated on whether the links for the icons were found or restored. I'd love to see them!

Jim Butcher is fairly well known for his Dresden Files series. However, his Codex Alera 6 book series is far better in my opinion! Don't get me know, I love Dresden too, I just don't think the Codex Alera gets nearly as much love and attention as it should.

My favorite book is #3: Prisoner of Azkaban (I'm a huge werewolf fan and I loved Lupin!) I enjoyed all of the movies. My favorite characters are Professor McGonagal and Hermione. My official Pottermore test(s) put me in Hufflepuff. I think I'm more of a Gryfflepuff though!

Cheers, The West Wing, Doctor Who

Something similar to Yzma's cut song from The Emperor's New Groove "Snuff Out the Light". Jazzy and upbeat with killer lyrics. Also, *slow clap* @Unlicensed Hemalurgist, that was amazing! For Breeze "We're in the Money" from 42nd Street. For the skaa "Hard Knock Life" from Annie. For Vin "Go the Distance" from Disney's Hercules. For Shallan "Reflections" from Disney's Mulan. Great thread, this is fun!

So far, my favorite Doctor has been David Tennant as #10. I love his panache and his enthusiasm. Although to be fair, I haven't managed to get through all of #11 yet. (I'm assuming I will absolutely love #13 too!) My favorite companion is harder to answer as I tend to find most of them annoying, albeit necessary, characters. Rose, probably, for her honesty and love. But I also really respect Donna for not taking any rust from anyone. My favorite episodes so far have included: S2, E2 'Tooth and Claw' because werewolves! And also S3, E2 'The Shakespeare Code'. I also enjoyed the Pandorica plot arc because bringing all your villains out to play is awesome! Plus the vashta nerada and the daleks!

Hello all, I'm Elinox, or Eli for short. It's pronounced "ee-lie-knocks". I'm a 35 year old female from central PA who lives with her husband and 2 cats. I'm an avid scuba diver and a newly published author who loves reading interesting fantasy stories with non-human characters. My all-time favorite book and movie is The 10th Kingdom and my favorite color is blue. I first came to the Cosmere by way of Warbreaker in 2016 because at the time, I was too afraid of just jumping right in with The Way of Kings because its length really intimidated me. Now I'll happily and eagerly read anything the boss-man writes! So far, my favorites have been The Stormlight Archives (looking forward to reading Oathbringer!) and The Final Empire (Mistborn). If you want to know anything else, please don't hesitate to ask!
