A joke long in the telling, celebrating that ever present character that's always putting everyone back in there place. The Dragon Reborn, an Aes Sedai of the Red Ajah, and a Seanchan Truthspeaker of short stature walk into an Inn's common room. The Dragon Reborn calls for a mug of ale, but before the Innkeeper can bring him one he channels, and a frosty mug of ale flies into his hand. The Red Sister, looking very pale, shouts, "I'm not afraid of you!". And a little Voice says, "No you're not afraid, you're terrified!"

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
Hoiditthroughthegrapevine replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Granted (I know I was ninja'd, but I'm granting this one anyway). The 5 walruses do everything together in such a seamless fashion it's almost as if they are... Your bane is that cats follow you wherever you go. Granted! Unfortunately it also stops for you too, but you can sure stop it. Your bane is that your nose hairs smell like Limburger cheese. I wish that I had an original Dogvinci painting. -

Granted! Now we know they were all the walrus! Your bane is that you have bioluminecsent earlobes that only light up when you're embarrassed. I wish for something that is too beautiful to behold without going mad. -

What Are You Reading, Part 2
Hoiditthroughthegrapevine replied to Chaos's topic in Entertainment Discussion
This is no mere qualitative review, hahaha, nice. I never really had the desire to read Atlas Shrugged because of the old saw too much of a good thing... She strikes me as a person who loves to belabor a point. -

I believe that we were created by a loving God, and given the freedom to choose what we make of our life. I believe that life really only has meaning if you try to live a life of love, service, and also of appreciation. The beauty of the world is that there are an infinite number of paths to walk, finding the path you were meant to walk is only part of it, just as important is taking time to appreciate the beauty you find along the way. I'll take multiple stabs at this one. Let me know if any of these is right. 1) The One Ring 2) Nothing 3) Pocket lint and an old orange tic-tac 4) A Philly cheese steak

Silly Questions with Tani (and other questions too I guess)
Hoiditthroughthegrapevine replied to Quivil's topic in AMAs
You wouldn't know, also there is a good chance that the you who is reading this right now wouldn't exist, because of the different pathways of causality that would retroactively apply due to the changes past. -

Oh ye of little faith... The trick is to put a squeaker into power, then puppies would never let go of power. Hark, ye guardians of the old Republic, I speak of the change that is to come. Long have you heard the barking at your fence, listen well, this is the sound of the dawning of a new age. This is the Kaninist manifesto. Verily I say the hand that pets the dog, is the hand that rules the world. No longer shall it be the tail that wags the dog, the leash shall be reversed, and it shall be instead the tail that wags the world. #puppiesnotpoliticians2022

Silly Questions with Tani (and other questions too I guess)
Hoiditthroughthegrapevine replied to Quivil's topic in AMAs
This is a simple, non controversial question. If you had the chance to go back in time with perfect foreknowledge of the stock performance of major blue-chip companies, effectively giving you the opportunity to be a multi-billionaire, would you do this if you knew that the timeline of events will also be altered in ways sometimes subtle, sometimes profound, and completely outside your control? Obviously an entity with a perception of continuous existence that believes itself to be you would exist in this future timeline, but for the sake of nearly illimitable wealth would you risk the possible alterations to yourself, your family, and your friends that could result from an alternate past? If you said yes to the above, what would you do with your millions? -
I abjure my right to remain silent, you shan't silence me that easily. Try using this against me: The world should be run by puppies, not politicians. You can't pet puppies with nuclear arms. Instead of fussin' and a-feudin' the people of the world should take out their frustrations by chewing up furniture and footwear. There is a softer way here people, let the puppies show us our true potential, reverse the leash now before it's too late.

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
Hoiditthroughthegrapevine replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
It's a combination of two pat sayings in the Wheel of Time. If wishes were horses beggars would ride, and if wishes were wings even pigs would fly. So it's only natural to wish that both were true so that beggars could ride flying pigs. I guess I have to quit my day job as a human fly now, drat. Granted! It sounds great, and it's made of black laquered wood carved to look like a dragon with folded wings. The only problem is that it can only be powered by a special lightning rod bow that attracts plasma arcs from a live tesla coil. But you look awesome in your chain mail like Faraday suit, with your bow crackling with lightning as you harness raw primal energy to make your electric cello wail. Your bane is that you never feel like your teeth are brushed enough. I wish that I had a box of dental floss that will never run out, and that this dental floss would have the same proportional tensile strength by diameter as spider silk. -

Poetry requires life experience, if you feel blocked take a walk. Then maybe sit on a bench and just experience. If no inspiration comes, that's OK too. Life is a series of moments. Give yourself the oppurtunity to experience them and enjoy them. You were born with a sensitive soul, but sensitivity implies sensation. Get out, the rest will follow. I know this feeling, it's the coefficient of static friction. It's the ability of a body at rest to resist motion. But the silver lining is that the coefficient of kinetic friction is always less. Things in motion tend to stay in motion. You got this brother. There is beauty yet undescribed, and the arc of a life is a discontinuous thing, but the arrow of time moves ever forward.

Sorry to double post, but this is good stuff. This news comes via @Ammanas, there is a pretty amazing update about the Esselmont prequels at the Wertzone: https://thewertzone.blogspot.com/2021/09/ian-c-esslemont-sells-million-books.html?m=1 You can read the publisher summaries of the next 3 books in the Paths of Ascendancy series, taking us all the way up to the bridgeburner action in Mott Wood and Black Dog forest. Pretty awesome.

Easing the Badger.
Hoiditthroughthegrapevine replied to Hoiditthroughthegrapevine's topic in The Wheel of Time
Hahaha, so funny. I just finished the dragon reborn, and I swear, this time through the prose actually seems lean. The story is so large, the world so expansive, it's super impressive how Jordan has (forgive the semblance of a pun) tightly woven all the threads together. And when you are reading you have no idea that all these threads are heading towards an epic convergence. I think that through the first three books, Jordan had a vision that he could have followed to finish the series in the original planned 6 volumes. But he got lost in the magic of his own creation. Listening this time through, I can't blame him really. I wish I could stay at most of the Inns in Randland, and I wish I had a friend like Basil Gill that I could play stones with while smoking good two rivers tabac. One thing that was pretty amazing this time through was the travel by portal stone. This is the first time that a small aside by Verin sedani actually made sense, that in all of the possible worlds that can be traveled to by the portal stones, the one constant was that the dark one was always bound in shayul ghul. Brilliant! And I think that it's indicative of what makes this series so amazing, the narrative is not so much foreshadowing as casually mentioning things that have already happened in the future. That's some serious forethought, and a brilliantly woven story. -
Help with Spanish covers
Hoiditthroughthegrapevine replied to Rashekin's topic in General Brandon Discussion
@Rashekin, the closet I could find was ITC Roswell Std 4, to get it exactly like the cover font you would have to edit the glyphs a smidgen, but it's pretty darn close. The S is the glyph that would need the most work, but the x heights on the A and E glyphs look right, and that is the R glyph for sure.
