Actually, that is exactly what is happening. If a spren crosses over to the Physical Realm to look for a bond, they can't just go back to the Cognitive Realm anymore. They need to bond someone.

So uhm, to return to the idea of "every Desolation was caused by a new Herald breaking" and "every Herald breaking spawned an Unmade", we got this WoB now:

[OB] Odium (and Dalinar) (and Honor) (and Cultivation)
Leyrann replied to Leyrann's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yes, Vessels become overpowered by Shards, but Vessels do filter a Shard's Intent. -
Maybe Lift fit so well because of what Cultivation did with her?

Well, that explains some stuff... *runs off to change name*

[OB] Crackpot theory about Roshar
Leyrann replied to The Invested Beard's topic in Stormlight Archive
I doubt it for two seperate reasons: 1. Roshar has no plate tectonics. 2. Brandon has already done something similar in Elantris. -
theory [OB] Were the Fused originally created by Honor?
Leyrann replied to shawnhargreaves's topic in Stormlight Archive
Exactly. The WoB says that the red signals "co-opting or corrupting another Shard's magic". So the magic needs to be changed by the Shard that "stole" it. -
I disagree with the bolded part. I think it's foreshadowing.

I think Dalinar thought that, for some reason (maybe, as @Shuffel proposes, because he Ascended), all ten Orders were supposed to be there and he just figured "they'll be two of the remaining three then".

I think there's differences between Regrowth and Stormlight healing, as I would say it is safe to assume that Renarin has tried to heal Hobber.

theory [OB] Were the Fused originally created by Honor?
Leyrann replied to shawnhargreaves's topic in Stormlight Archive
Problem is that the Nahel bond is a direct imitation of the Honorblades. There was no spren-bonding before the Honorblades. It's a nice theory though. -
Originally, the Heralds were not actually members of the Orders, they were given their powers by the Honorblades, while the Knights Radiant get their powers from the spren bonds. According to Nale (the Herald with the Skybreaker Surges), he is the only one that had joined his own Order. This in itself leaves open the possibility that another Herald joined an Order that was not "their own", but even if that has not yet happened, it might happen later on the series; as long as someone isn't bonded, that person can technically bond any willing spren, no matter the Order that would mean. Partly because of Ash' destructive tendencies (destroying all art depicting her and stuff) this theory came into existence, and it would also be the easiest way to fit the "Ten Orders" where Dalinar counts them, as the only Order not in attendence (assuming Taln is a Stoneward) is the Dustbringers, while there are two "Lightweavers": Shallan and Ash. Oh, and the nickname of "Ash" is generally considered a hint as well (knew I forgot something), as Dustbringers tend to leave ash behind.

Are you setting up an Adolin-Shallan-Jasnah love triangle now?

Syl on a bad day beats Pattern easily.

Dalinar was just absolutely awesome. I hadn't expected that a man in his fifties would be my favorite fictional character, but I think he might have just made it after Oathbringer.

Best Stormlight Archive end-of-book avalanche?
Leyrann replied to ICanDream's topic in Stormlight Archive
Not even a question in my opinion. Oathbringer's avalanche was absolutely amazing.- 1 reply

That's actually not that special. The salt purification plant I almost live next to also has it's own power plant. It's mostly that the scale of most chemical processes is absolutely huge. That's because metal is special on Scadrial.

I don't know, I don't have the books here to look it all up, but he's talking about a black spren, the Thrill is red. Therefore, he's not talking about the Thrill. Or do you have a single instance where the Thrill is described as black?
-
He talks about the third black spren. The Thrill is red.

I understand and fully agree that they are a huge factor in their character growth. However, we shouldn't be looking at why they are the way they are, but rather how they are. Age is a cause of character, but it's not a part of character by itself. Oh and I feel like this thread should stay light-hearted. It's not the most serious ship imo, but that only makes it more fun to discuss.

She is very much suspected to be behind the Diagram and maybe even 'choosing' the days Taravangian gets to be smart and dumb. Additionally, we've already seen her ruin Odium's plan to make Dalinar his champion, and she's done something to Lift.
-
Did you even read his quote? It literally talks about the spren like black smoke and beyond that the Thrill. So black smoke =/= Thrill.

I actually use the downvote button when I think someone is needlessly rude or in an other way obnoxious but it isn't so bad that I feel like I want to use the report button, is there any other way (apart from a reply, which at that point is probably annoyed in itself because I am annoyed by that person) that I can express this?
-
I disagree with this, it is good that people ask for WoBs on things, as otherwise sometimes errors will become "common knowledge". I was actually surprised to find that this was the best WoB I could find on the subject (granted, I didn't go through every WoB, but I did go through all WoBs tagged "Nahel bond"): https://wob.coppermind.net/events/78-shadows-of-self-boston-signing/#e5469

I would say that Honor + Cultivation + Passion = Guidance. A Shard that makes humans grow so they are honest and live for what they love. I don't have the book with me right now, but I remember that I wasn't sure from the scene what the actual Oath was, and if I am not mistaken, there were two lines I thought might be the Oath... And then "I am Unity", which I didn't consider likely. What if he said three Oaths in a row? And what if the crazy explosion of power that comes with that is what created the perpendicularity?
