  1. I thought about the coloss rage. Dalinar certainly acted like coloss, killing his own people in blind rage and urge to kill. Thrill is a way for Odium to affect people and make them commit atrocities. I wonder whether there is a 'line' which, once crossed, cannot be crossed back, and you stay in a mindless, full of rage state, forever. Maybe that's what a Vondbinding actually is?
  2. Mraize is being close to Ialai, because of Amaram, who was last known person in contact / controling the man, who refers to himself as Taln. Mraize wants to know secrets of the past and Realmatics which Taln could potentially know and hand over to him. We already know Ghostbloods are interested in the topic.
  3. The bird on Mraize's shoulder is a parrot but I would give a wealth of spheres for it to be an aviar.
  4. Reading this made me think of Ruin and Preservation (Mistborn spoilers) : Argents insist that messages Dalinar receives are not of Honor, but of Voidbringers. Even though they do it to refuse acknowledging the fact of Honor's death, they still might be right about visions being a way of tricking humans - only the ultimate goal is not to lie about Honor's death (which is true), but instead to convince Alethi that all Voidbringers are enemies that need to be turned to dust, which is not true. I think that war itself, and a strong feeling of hatred from one to another that comes with the war is something that can increase Odium's capability of manipulating the events on Roshar. Following that line of thought, what would cause a stronger feeling of hate between both sides : a just war of retaliation and revenge between enslaved, innocent Parshmen versus humans, or a conflict where nothing is clear, humans cant's distinguish neutral Parshmen from foes, and kill also the innocents just in case? Such a scenario would definitely be a great win of Odium. I think 'Unite them' means 'Unite Parshmen and humans alike to fight the real Voidbringers with forms of power', like OP said. TL:DR: 1) visions are corrupted by Odium 2) Odium wants Dalinar / humans to believe all Parshmen are bad 3) Odium does that to avoid creating a unified front of humans and Parshmen vs. real Voidbringers
  5. This is a really good question. Even now, in modern times, Kholin princedom was only a bit above-the-median when it comes to the number of Shards. What we can count now are: - Dalinar's Blade - Oathbringer - and Plate - Adolin's Blade - unnamed - and Plate. Note that he won his blade quite recently, it was nowhere around during the Gavilar's conquest - Elhokar's Blade - Sunraiser - and Plate - Old Gavilar's Blade - Firestorm - and a Plate (not sure about the Plate, Elhokar's might be wearing it). So Kholins and the king had at least eight Shards or four full sets of Blade + Plate at the beginning of the War of Reckoning. Not an overwhelming power I'd say. IIRC, Dalinar also won additional set in the Shattered Plains, increasing this number to five full sets. Still, it's not that impressive when compared to remaining princedoms. If pushed, they could have easily combine a force that could counter that as we during in Adolin's duel. This leads to a conclusion that Gavilar's conquest was conquest only at the beginning. Politics was involved later on and still is until this day.
  6. I also believe that Shin came to Roshar whenever other people did, but it was stated multiple times that they look different to other people. We can ignore them being smaller etc., but one difference stands out - the epicantric fold (is that how you spell it?). I consider this a significant genetic difference when compared to any other people around. Of course, it could easily be explained by Shin living in the area with no Storms, so no strong winds, so no additional enhancements to the eyes, as that's what epicantric fold is in my headcanon - a barrier that keeps your vision clear without a need to keep your eyes opened so wide.
  7. Mistborn Secret History spoilers here: Gemmel just picked up the fork cause he was crazy, no additional reasoning behind it.
  8. There is also a confirmed fact that spren tend to gather around people who are already actively bonded to other spren. This lead to speculation that either Shallan's brother or father, or both, were also a Radiants or proto-Radiants. There are some interesting threads on Lin Davar using possibly fake soulcaster (like Jasnah) to create resources in their lands. Helaran is theorized to possibly be one of the Skybreakers-in-training. Spren tendency towards gathering around already existing Surgebinders also explains why so many Kholins display abilities. I don't think Pattern was present when she killed her father. Was he? Shallan's need to wait 10 heartbeats to summon the Blade comes from her own, inner lies. She initially refuses to admit what Pattern, and what she herself is, because her Radiancy was something that broke her family - without it, her mother woudn't have tried to kill her, Shallan wouldn't have had to kill her mother, Lin wouldn't have to cover for her and wouldn't have gone insane, which lead himself to be killed. She is in a serious denial state and suffering from the PTSD. It's her coping mechanism to act like Pattern is a common (dead) Shardblade, not an alive one.
  9. Someone asked Brandon whether this person is Nohadon and the answer was 'Dalinar believes it was Nohadon'. So we can never be sure.
  10. There is an article about it on Coppermind : https://coppermind.net/wiki/Spheres
  11. Hi, majority of this has already been theorized, but to sum it up for you : 1) The exact mechaninc of Shardplate creation is not yet revieled. One of the theories about it is that each part of a Shardplate is made of a separate minor spren, like windspren. Another theory states that it is purely artificial construct created by forming stormlight into the shape of Shardplate. If it was artificial creation that had been damaged, it would likely seek for sources of stormlight to rebuild itself. Did you refer to the certain part of Plate stealing Stormlight from a certain Radiant? 2) There are likely more than only one type of Voidbringers - you mentioned thunderclasts and Parshendi yourself, and thunderclasts are (possibly) made of stone only. Also, Parshendi's skin is described to be like marble. Maybe it simply only looks like a stone, and in legends it had been twistetd that it actually is stone? 3) Vorin religion worships them, because Heralds lied to the people. Vorinism believes Heralds are no longer around, because after the Last Desolation Voidbringers are finally pushed away from Roshar and Heralds followed them to the Tranquiline Halls to reclaim the long lost paradise too. That's the Vorin doctrine. 4) We don't know yet. One of the theories I support is that Cryptics are very well organized and thorough in their actions and they simply like to stick around people of importance to watch them and be aware of what is going on the the Physical Realm. Also, welcome to the Shard!
  12. Zahel's comparison that something is as clear as white on black is amusing for Poles, as in Poland when something is very, very obvious and clear it is demonstrated black on white. Is Nalthis in Poland? Dalinar remembers his wife, because his curse was to forget his wife. Right now Navani is his wife, and Evi is his ex-wife. So he remembers Evi (ex-wife), but will eventually start forgetting Navani (wife). Not cool. The copycat murderer is definitely of supernatural origin. In the separate thread with a poll there was an option to answer the question "Who is the copycat murderer?" with "Adolin, but he doesn't know it'. I currently believe that giving it all to the rage and commiting a murder leaves some crash in the Soul, letting one of the Unmade in to take you over and commit more atrocities. Poor Adolin.
  13. Who is this second Fullborn? 1st was Rashek, but who is second? Where do we see him?
  14. Theory I crafted a minute ago: Do we know whether a physical trauma can break people on Roshar? On Scadrial, it was a custom to beat people almost to death to break them to create cracks in Spiritual Web. One character even broke while he/she was born... If this can also be the case on Roshar, then the theory is: Shallan broke as an newborn, due to the painfull/damaging labour, and was able to inhale Stormlight from the day 0. The only problem is that sprens are being lured to people with certain traits and characters, which infants won't show. However, this can be worked around in case there are other spren around, already bonded to other proto-radiants or radiants. So, I call it that Lin was already bonded to some spren (his soulcaster was always a imitation, like the one Jasnah possesed), and once Shallan was born, wounded during it, a 'spren friend' of Lin's spren bonded her in order to save her life. Voila. Please smash this theory in to pieces. The weakest point in it I can think of is that Brandon would not use the same plothole with breaking during labour for two major characters of his biggest books.
  15. This is correct. One of the kandra (TenSoon I think) mentioned 'we are weaker than other hemalurgic creatures. Two spikes are enough to control us'. Implies that other sapient species need to be spiked more than two times to be controlled by Harmony.
  16. Do we have a confirmation that Radiant would also destroy a gem used as a source of Stormlight to soulcast? This happens for ardents with fabrials, but for Radiants too? Also, does a Radiant need the Stormlight to be stored in a right gem? They can soulcast every Essence as Jasnah states after saving Shallan's life. I believe profficiency in soulcasting is only a matter of practice and progress as a Radiant, not a matter of gem. I know that Jasnah in Kharbranth while releasing the Taravangians granddaughter did destroy some of the gems in her soulcaster, but I always assumed it was only a part of her disguise and she did it intentionally to hide her true skills.
  17. Even though we are discussing Soulcasting by a Radiant, not an ardent with a fabrial, there are still some clues we can extract from the ardent soulcasting. The process where a fabrial is used seems to be not excellent and can damage the gems or even destroy them completely. Based on that, I assume that soulcasting takes like A LOT of Investiture and actually is one of harder things to do - only copying Sharblades and Plates seems harder for the artifabrians. Having this in mind, it seems reasonable that convincing a plant or a set of plants to grow using Growth would, of course, consume a lot of Stormlight, but still it would take less than, say, making a rock turn into food. Plants are already food or a future food, they only need some more nutrition (Investiture) while rocks are, well, rocks. I think simply speeding up the growth process would be more cost efficient than changing the entire physical nature of an object.
  18. In Poland, Oathbringer is going to be split into two books - 1st released on November, like for all of you, 2nd will be likely released in January. Imagine how it will feel to lurk around the 17thShard knowing all of you read entire book, while we know only one half (majority of the 1st book will be released in preview chapters on TOR anyway). This is going to be a torture.
  19. Hi, As we can see from what happens in Thaylenah, and also from the previous chapters, Voidbringers are not a mindless beasts some of us expected them to be. They are smart, trained, and have a bigger goal in mind rather than slaughtering every non-Parshendi in their vicinity. Likely, what they will try to do is to overwhelm Roshar and humans in a deliberated, strategically planned manner, taking advantage of their superior communication and organizing skills. If it seriously is the case, what aces do they have in their sleve? What are they able to do? From the transformation of Eshonai and others into Stormform we can see that besides getting a boost in 'magical' capabilities and changing into hatefull people, their level of knowledge and abilities did not increase on their own. However, we know that Eshonai does remember her previous life, she only no longer cares about what was previously important to her. My theory is that all the Parshmen, now transformed into Voidbringers, also remember their previous lives. Knowledge they had is retained. Parshmen from forges can forge weapon. Parsh-sailors steal or build ships. Parsh-farmers know how to grow food to feed their own. Basically, whenever there was an activity on Roshar where Parshmen was involved and taught how to do something, he still knows and potentially could be doing it. And Parshmen were everywhere, and were doing every basic tasks. Storms, could there be some jobs that no human was doing and humans might not know now how to to something? What could be the potential consequences of that knowledge and what can Voidbringers actually do from an industry / manufacturing perspective?
  20. What is this 'shame' Dalinar feels after claiming his Blade? Is he ashamed of killing the heir of Tanatal even though Gavilar does not seem to put any blame on him for this, or is this something else?
  21. Actually, is there a reason why Adolin is handling the investigation instead of Aladar? As far as I remember, Dalinar named Aladar the Highprince of Justice. Is he seizing the power and authority once again, unable to let go and allow others to do their jobs? This happens so often that it is slowly starting to become really irritating.
  22. Well hello there, I'm the new guy on 17th shard, registered about a week ago. My journey with Brandon started after someone from the polish Tolkien fan's forum elendili.pl recomended Stormlight Archive as a great reading for someone looking for epic and big to enjoy and follow for years. I've been a hard fan ever since. The way Brandon writes his plots amuses me every time (HoA, I'm looking at you). Looking forward to theorizing with you!
  23. I've been lurking here for more than a year now, but it never occured to me that this theory was a thing. It is very reasonable though. Urge for battle, for challenge caused by the Thrill could possibly be behind his jealousness and agresive feelings towards Gavilar - after all, was there any better challenge than defeating and killing a first-in-centuries king of the strongest kingdom of the planet? This is great, gonna reconsider my Dalinar's boon and bane approach. This could also make one of the reasons why Dalinar was more accessible for the spren - since one of the Unmade could no longer affect him. Weak point, but still a point.
  24. I've always thought on Dalinar's boone and bane that he asked to have his jealousness towards Gavilar to be erased. His urge to attack older brother to take his kingdom and woman was mentioned several times as a problem Dalinar had. However, if he asked to become a better man like Maxal suggested or for getting rid off the pain he felt, removing jeoulesness towards brother would also could be a part of fixing his character, so it works very well. And his bane would be forgetting Shshshsh in the process too.
