skyward 4 progress bar enhancement!
Asrael replied to Doomstick's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Anyone notice Brandon's twitter update? How great is it for your favorite author to say "I've just started on the flashbacks for this book" and a few weeks later to come back with "Hey, so, I just finished the flashbacks for this book". No sweat, no writers block, just gettin it done- 576 replies

I get behind @Calderis's explanation. I'll add that I see fully realized Windrunners and Skybreakers as really being not so different, which to me would aggravate the friction between them.

Ya as much fun as it is to meet your favorite author, its more fun to read a great new book in my opinion. We all know he'd probably rather be writing anyways -

Assuming that 40% really means 40%, and not actually 30% or something, this book is coming along quick! Go Brandon, go!- 576 replies

Show me a specific example of hype and I'll call it overhyped or not. As to a general question like "is Brandon Sanderson the best fantasy author currently putting out books"... I haven't read enough books by half to make an argument for my position. If the question is even more general like "should you (random person) read Brandon Sanderson?" I would personally say yes every time, unless I know the person explicitly doesn't like things that are major features of his books. I have read most of Brandon's books (with the exception of a few of the YA books) and I have not read a single one I didn't think was great. They're real page turners and I struggle to read them responsibly. What ever amount of hyped he ought to be, its non-zero.

On Wayne viewpoints: I dislike him for all the same reasons BUT ALSO Whenever we drop into Wayne's head it breaks the suspension of disbelief for me because Wayne is portrayed as hyper competent/capable while also being completely off his rocker. I CANT believe that Wayne would see the world through such a messed up wacky lens and still manage to manipulate it so successfully and also successfully read and imitate people like he does

"I've heard if a place..." Hmmmm.... Vax? A mysterious legendary place where something lost could be restored because old rules don't apply anymore. A place consistently not elaborated on!

Skybreaker most likely. ^^^ This suits me fine because flying and setting things on fire sounds awesome

Szeth was taken as a squire to another Skybreaker. No nahel bond required. Then he swore his 3rd oath and gained his own highspren

[OB] Full Book Reactions / Full Spoilers Thread
Asrael replied to Chaos's topic in Stormlight Archive
This is the reason I read Brandon Sanderson. This is the reason Game of Thrones will never compare. I cried like a baby when Dalinar visited the Nightwatcher, and again when Jasnah embraced Renarin, and again when Dalinar overcame Odium. Brandon Sanderson overwhelms me with the goodness in his character's hearts, and it makes me wan't to be a better person.- 825 replies

Two thoughts: 1. It may be that they were simply very visible to the Spren due to Gavilars involvement with the stormfather. Aka, Gavilar gains the stormfather attention by uniting an entire country and thus his family members come to the attention of the stormfather as well. The stormfather, or Spren with some connection to him then notices that several members of this family have strong radiant qualities as well. 2. It's a family trait. Not that I'm saying radiant is in the blood, but rather it is not uncommon for one exceptional person to have an exceptional family. Gavilar and Dalinar are exceptional people so it shouldn't be a surprise that they have produced a handful of exceptional offspring. The attributes which make them generically viable candidates to become Knights Radiant are likely to have been genetically passed on or nurtured into their children I'm thinking a combination of the two. Edit: you guys are quick on the draw!

Because Oathbringer was a part of his life for over 20 years, the way he got it was among his many despicable action, and probably the motivation behind the events that lead to his wife's death. I think it's a perfect name for an autobiography by Dalinar. Not to mention the way he somewhat literally "brings Oaths" to the world as the leader of the new Knight Radiants, bonded to a spren of oaths. (More on the sword itself) Here's what we know: Dalinar did something he was ashamed of when he acquired Oathbringer The city, Rathalas is where Kadash left the ardentia at a later point, so we know something went down there and it wasn't him getting Oathbringer, but seems to be as a direct result of that day We suspect that event is where and when his wife died, and we are very suspicious that Dalinar is the one who killed her If that is the day his wife died, it was that event that drove him to the nightwatcher to take it all away The revelation of all of those lost memories is what causes Dalinar to confront who he was and who he is trying to become (we can glean this a little more explicitly from recent reviews) All of this to me screams that Dalinar is definitely the author, and Oathbringer is a dang good name

Your sneaky attempt to root out the identity of the mystery project mentioned in Brandon's BYU lectures is very sneaky.... But I'm with you! They're great!

No way, my biggest fear is Brandon dying before I get to read all the books; I'm almost 20 years younger than him @Firerust I upvote you in solidarity!

"Why should I care what’s good for society except when it happens to pay me personally?" That doesn't really answer the dilemma presented (I believe @The Invested Beard will agree) I haven't been following the full discussion, so I'll refrain from restating what someone may have already said. But I'll publicly withhold my support from any framework of moral relativism and hope that's relevant
