I live in perpetual hope that the last words of Firefight will be: "And then Nighthound died"

Loving how much worldbuilding you've put into this, I have a couple of character ideas, will post when I've fleshed them out a bit with the culture info. when it comes out.- 314 replies

That would consist of several dozen pages Welcome to the forums! Care to take a cookie?

Insurance forms are created by lawyers, even we're not that evil.

Friend of her parents probably, she would've only been 14 when Koschei took over.
-
Kobold would you mind if I made Scribbler one of Vondra's personal bodyguards? In her current Bio she would have known him from before she became an Epic so she should be one of the more trusted Epics around.
-
I assume that was Velth that Duke just ran into?

PP was a bit of a special case, I had to keep that hidden for plot reasons, I cleared it with Twi well in advance of introducing Penumbra, and when he resurrects he retains all of his clothes for modesty reasons so I'd assume he retained the chip too, but he's not explicitly used it yet so I might have him lose it. Indeed he does, sometime I'm going to need a Doc listing all the Docs I've made

I have tried not to OP anyone, it was mostly just clarification on how exactly her power works, I don't think I've actually added to anyone's power set, I couldn't portray the entire page I have atm in the one-sentence-description I usually give my Epics, the reference frame thing was always there though I didn't explicitly mention it. All momentum is relative to something so I had to pick a stable point and the two options I had were the earth or her body, I opted for the latter to impose some more restrictions.
-
Yeah all of my Epics have undergone a fair bit of adjustment, I think I accidentally removed a piece of the reference frame thing when I was cutting out all the plot-sensitive data. But essentially all momentum she shifts is measured as relative to her own, so if she was on a train she couldn't shift the momentum of say another person on the train to make them fly backwards, since relatively they don't have any momentum to her, even though they have momentum relative to an outside stationary observer who isn't on the train, if that makes sense. The part that I removed for reasons that are no longer clear to me is that the one exception to that rule is her own momentum which she can shift relative to anything theoretically although at her current level of ability she can only really shift her momentum relative to the earth, so for example when she jumped out of the museum while touching Impact and Backtrack she had to first shift her own momentum so that she was stationary relative to the earth and then shift Impact and Backtrack. Hope this all makes sense, I sometimes have trouble explaining my thinking but yeah I spend a lot of time thinking about stuff like this EDIT: So for the AoE thing yeah the momentum would continue to spread as normal and she'd only be able to put up one at a time, particularly at her current Tier (I have a ranking scale of 1-5 where 1 is like Jingleberry uselessness and 5 is Steelheart or Nightwielder levels, capable of leveling entire cities single handedly, she's currently around a 2 by herself and a 3 with Impact) at her current level she'd really struggle with any AoE shifting, it'd take a while to set up and she'd be pretty distracted while maintaining it, she couldn't stop a surprise grenade thrown at her.

Welcome to the Dark Alley, our benefits package includes a virtually limitless supply of newcomers in the Introductions thread for experimentation, your own Research facility within the Dark Alley and a wonderful Severence package of one Atium spike which our talented Hemalurgical engineers will install free of charge! (Installation of Atium spike may result in loss of sanity, loss of ability to utilize investiture, grotesque appearance or death, by joining Dark Alley Inc. you agree to waive any responsibility of Dark Alley Inc. to ensure your health, sanity or freedom from possession by an omnipotent evil being bent on world destruction)

Mailliw, would you be up for Empathy and Simon heading towards a nearby shelter where people are hiding and just terrorizing a bunch of people? That way their names can get spread across the area and other Epics could start looking for them and we can move on to some actual conflict.
-
Sounds good to me, I'd say another group or two of bandits each (Or a few if we group up again) and then we start dealing with the vamp.

Velth grimaced at the cacophany of the alarms ringing throughout the caves, their echoes bouncing back and forth between the stone walls and amplifying to near unbearable levels. "It seems someone set off a trap" He commented drily to Nyn, who only nodded and continued further on into the cave. Velth had just lost sight of her around a corner when the alarm bells changed, someone must have discovered that they were under attack. The sounds of battle just ahead broke Velth from his revery, Nyn had been ambushed by a lone bandit who'd knocked her weapons from her hands, they engaged in a grappling contest, muscles on both bodies straining hard. Nyn may have been a woman but her strength was unparalleled by any bandit, the slow shift of arms told of her inevitable victory and panic entered the bandits eyes. Velth considered shooting a firebolt at him to finish him off quickly but the cave was too narrow, he risked hitting his ally instead. So he waited as the bandit made a slight slip in his footing and instantly Nyn gained full advantage, seizing him by the neck she twisted until Velth heard a loud crack echo through the cave. "Looks like they've planned for an attack" said Velth as Nyn retrieved her weapons "Since our cover's already blown let the Atronach go first, if there's a surprise attack it's better that it's taken by a Daedra than you."

All looks great, how common is the third type of magic? And I'd appreciate some more clarification on the second type too, is it something anyone can do? How exactly do they influence or compel other lower levelled beings?- 314 replies

MVs current power bio (With selected plot-sensitive pieces removed) This is my random musings on her powers over time, I don't know how easy it will be for anyone else to follow since I wasn't planning on posting this officially but Edge was wondering about her abilities so here goes.
-
I'm about to go to bed but I'll post her full power bio tomorrow if you want? I have like a page on each of my main characters

Yeah, trying to pin down definitions of a High Epic seems troublesome, I imagine it has something to do with the classing system Tia uses. Yeah it would work with things she doesn't see coming, though it'd definitely be tricky and take her a while to master. She can perform a constant shift of momentum between two things so additional energy would be shiftable like that, but normally it doesn't create a permanent connection like that, so for instance when they were falling out of the MoNA Backtrack still fell after she shifted his momentum. If she focuses on an object then it would be the net force from all the vectors, if she's doing AoE bubbles the individual forces would be shifted. She can do either a whole person, or an AoE bubble around part of them. The explosions thing is tricky, her power uses her own momentum as a reference frame (Otherwise she could steal the angular momentum of something imparted by the earths spin and have just insane amounts of energy to play with) so I think if it works at an atomic level the heat of the explosion would become her average body temperature and she could transfer the force to another area of equal size. (For AoE effects she has to move it to an equivalent sized and shaped area, otherwise the maths involved would make my head hurt )

Yes, yes you should. *Grins maniacally* He's not really on the same level as the Calamityville Epics, they're all somewhat OP.
-
It's specifically said to be two distinct groupings, though all Epics with a PI are High Epics so I can see how that can get confusing, :S At the moment? Yeah that'd probably kill her, once she practices with her powers more and thinks some more about what she can do she could pull off a trick that would make even surprise firing non-lethal. Not sure what you mean about the new momentum thing.
-
High Epics don't all have a PI, but the twins very nearly do anyway, they couldn't be killed by pretty much anything they're aware of, the only thing I can think of that would kill them is oxygen deprivation or poisoning. MV can shift almost any amount of momentum but she needs time to switch between targets, or to set up an AoE of particularly large size. Depending on certain plot points we may get some Corrupted!MV POVs showcasing her badassery, or go the other way and have her just play a bunch of pranks on people. *Cough* Reader *Cough*
-
It doesn't have eyes.... WHY DOESN'T IT HAVE EYES!?!?!?!?
-
And then Nighthound died.
-
Just the three of them? I'm pretty sure the entire planet could bond over their mutual hatred of Reader
-
He probably should, I'm not entirely sure what the twins are going to do now. Depends on what Backtrack does I suppose.
