I really like this theory. Kal's story so far definitely points to the idea that they don't all become soulless monster warriors and based on hints and the dust-jacket blurb we're definitely going to learn at least something about the Recreance. This is a good theory. Have an upvote.

Read this theory earlier in the day but it's stuck with me all day so I thought I'd give you a bit of a shout out. From my first readthrough of WoK in 2010 I've been a Shalladin fan and even with the blossoming relationship we're seeing between Adolin and Shallan that has people up in arms I'm still team Shalladin. But in the end, I agree: it won't work out between Shallan and Kaladin. That being said, I think they could definitely have a nice, steamy hookup scene that they both get weird about later. Too many fantasy novels have characters who see each other, fall in love and get married. Let's have some casual hookups and failed relationships, say I!

I'll say that I like the flashbacks least of all. I know they're integral to the overall telling of the story, and definitely in rereads of WoK and WoR I've enjoyed the flashbacks immensely compared to my first readthroughs, but when I'm reading it for the first time I find that they pull me out of the current narrative for the time being. Especially with Dalinar's chapters being much older. I'm wanting to see what happens with the voidbringers or where Jasnah is at or who or what is making these copycat murders. The flashbacks - while I accept them as necessary! - always seem jarring and pull me out of the narrative. I will concur generally with this topic though. I like Shallan's chapters as she's becoming more comfortable with her wit and charm around Adolin and others but at the same time becoming more psychologically unhinged. Really cool contrast that I'm enjoying. That being said, of the three mains here I don't actually dislike Dalinar's or Kaladin's chapters. I'm just happy I get to read some before November 14th!

Absolutely excited to see Mraize back in the picture. Can't wait to get some more nuggets from him about the Ghostbloods and their aims. I'm really hoping for Ialai to say something like "ah this is my head steward, Flim-Flam" or something and just discount him as a person she considers uninteresting. That, to me, would be a whole lot juicier than Ialai and Mraize somehow working together. I will admit, when most people went all googly eyed about Adolin and Shallan being all cutesy in the last few chapters I didn't really buy into it. But now I'm starting to grow into it. Brandon's doing a good job of making them grow slowly more comfortable around each other and you can kind of see hints of a legitimate relationship starting there. I will say though, as I am an absolute sadist I'd love to see it get screwed up whether by Adolin admitting to the murder or Kaladin showing up or something. Can't have a good, stable relationship between main characters this early in the series. Also, I've been quite the stoic reader since starting these preview chapters but I will admit to having my first laugh out loud moment when Pattern quips 'no mating' from the wall. Absolutely fantastic. 10/10 would easily watch some Pattern standup comedy.

I think this is a great interpretation. There's been a lot of Kal brooding over what he can and cannot do, and even with his kickass Windrunning he can't save everyone all of the time. Also, are we aware of how many ideals each Order has? I know they'll definitely vary (a la Shallan only needing to speak the first ideal and the subsequent ones being her lies) but are there any WoB that there is a limit to how many ideals each Order has/how many can we expect Kaladin to say before he truly becomes super-saiyan?

Probably won't get a lot of love for this opinion, but hey this is a thread that's centred around criticizing our favourite author's creations, so everyone is gonna get rubbed the wrong way once in a while I think. I don't like the Lopen all that much. I understand why he's a fan-favourite, but I just don't get the hype surrounding him. The 'what kind of radiant would Lopen be!' facebook discussions and stuff like that. I think he's an excellent wacky side character but I'd really just like him to stay like that. He should be like a Shakespearean clown: he's there, he runs through the scene causing good-natured chaos and then he leaves and the main characters continue their plot to kill the king/get married in secret/etc. I think he'd be great at filling this role, but not become a central character all on his own like everyone seems to want him to be.

Man. But yeah, civil proc has been a necessary evil.

Bad news, Cosmerenauts. I've got a Property Law exam on 13 November, Criminal Law exam on 15 November and then a Civil Procedure exam on 16 November. So after waiting for 3 years I have to wait for two more days before I get to read Oathbringer? Just because of my stupid future career? Where's that gif of Sirius Black screaming "I'VE DONE MY WAITING!"

Mine's a little unique I think. I live in South Africa but I'm from Canada. Now, I don't see a South African distributor getting it out to the shops right away (not exactly speedy) and they use the UK cover here, which (no offence to our British brethren) I'm not super keen on. Love that garish Michael Whelan art and all my other signed (giving myself some street cred here) are the North American versions. Anyways I've already pre-ordered my copy of it as an ebook, which is the method I've used in the last two years to read instead of having to move my entire library overseas (there are a lot of books) but I'm going to get a hardcover edition to add to my collection just as soon as I visit Canada again. Also my exams may or may not be done by the time Oathbringer hits my reading app on my iPad, so I may have to save myself for it because if I start reading mid-exam session I will be ruined and fail everything after November 14.

I'm a long-time lurker on Sanderson-related fansites and a first-time member! I thought I'd introduce myself to you guys, along with a few points you might find interesting: - I'm from Ottawa, Canada but I now live in Johannesburg, South Africa after meeting my South African wife on a 'Wheel of Time' fan group on Facebook eight years ago. Wheel of Time is also how I slipped into the Cosmere, as I loved what Brandon did with the final three books of the series that changed my life. - I named myself Goatbringer because I like goats, it sounded like Oathbringer and most of all I wanted a punny nickname but I was signing up for my membership at like 6 am before having coffee (I was really keen on that Aether of Night copy). - My favourite book in the Cosmere is Words of Radiance (so far). Like I said, I'm a huge WoT fan, so any huge, sprawling epics are my absolute favourite. Everything about this book was incredible: Kaladin fighting the four shardbearers, Shallan's backstory, Kaladin's embracing of who he is, the Everstorm.... I'd say it's going to take a monumental effort for Oathbringer to top this, but somehow, I have absolute faith in Brandon. - I got to meet Brandon in Toronto a few years ago (something like 2011 or 2012?) when he was on tour promoting The Emperor's Soul. I dressed as an Asha'man and got to the store 6 hours before he was scheduled to arrive and was second in line to meet him. He signed all my books and chatted with me about seeing Robert Jordan's notes about the end of the series. Seriously cool and I hope I get to go to another signing for all the books I have of his since then. Anyways I'll probably keep lurking unless something really interesting catches my eye.
