  1. My wife and I met through the Wheel of Time and though I keep trying to get her to read some of Brandon's work, she's not taken the bait so far. One night I was reading one of the preview chapters on Tor, a scene between Dalinar and the Stormfather and she read over my shoulder 'The Stormfather rumbled' and had a laughing fit about it, imagining some big dude made of clouds. I'm trying to get her to understand that it's a serious thing but she's canning herself laughing and calling him the 'Stormrumbler'. So yeah, I'm gonna be in for some abuse as I shout and cheer after Tuesday when I start reading the rest, but eh! It's worth it!
  2. Guys its so close I can almost taste it omg. I've had this timer saved in my bookmarks since April.
  3. I'm really looking forward to being really wrung out by a book. I haven't had the feeling of gut-wrenching shock at a book for a while. Some have come close in the last three years, like The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch, A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini and the Powder Mage Trilogy by our boy Brian McClellan, but nothing that really messed me up like frantically reading through Words of Radiance almost four years ago for the first time (incidentally, I was reading it while acting in a play, and I ended up reading the line of "Honour is dead, but I'll see what I can do" while I was on a break in the greenroom right before going back onstage; the adrenaline I got from that one chapter made my performance that night even better than I expected!). But Oathbringer is bringing back these characters who I have really come to love, characters that I'm so excited to see and hear from again after so much time imagining what's going to come next. In terms of what I'd like to see specifically: - I want to see how Shardplate is formed. I'm guessing Kal is the most likely candidate to be the first Radiant who gains Shardplate, and I think whenever he figures that out it will be storming incredible. - I'd like to see how the parshendi were originally enslaved and if that was the catalyst for the Recreance - Cannot WAIT to see Nightblood in action - Very excited to see what connections there are to Warbreaker since I re-read it a week ago in anticipation - Can't wait to see the art, the ketek and the Sanderlanche.
  4. Very sorry to hear about this; I'm quite worried that one of my Cosmere or SL facebook groups is going to accidentally spoil something for me as I have two exams in the days following the release, so I'm considering unsubscribing. But yeah, I agree with your general thesis here; people are much too sensitive with perceived 'spoilers'. Nothing is actually ruined for people in these reviews, and if they wanted to read reviews that wouldn't tease certain events the reviews would be incredibly boring and probably only one line long.
  5. Yeah. As much as I'd love for Evi and Vivenna to be the same person, it just wouldn't make any sense. I feel like this 'hair' thing is a red herring for people who are actively looking for Vivenna in this book, but having her be Evi just wouldn't make sense, particularly if she's been looking for Vasher and he's been a monk for Dalinar for years.
  6. Not gonna lie, I do picture Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Dalinar when I read Stormlight, which is a weird connection I made just now
  7. Oh damnation. Just when the hype before the 14th couldn't get any bigger
  8. Oh my gooooood voidblades sound so storming cool. I want to see that fight.
  9. I interpreted this twofold: first is that since he's been home in Hearthstone so recently he's probably got his childhood name on his mind subconsciously. I also thought it may be because 'Kaladin' sounds like a man's name; an important lighteyes name, which was why he chose to take it on all those years ago. I think that having a more childish sounding name, or at least a less important name would allow Kal to blend in a bit more with the parshmen; give him a little bit of familiarity to them. Their names are all short and one syllable like Khen and Sah, so they might unconsciously trust him more if he had a name along their lines.
  10. I agree with @Subvisual Haze. That's a bang-on metaphor if that happens. I'm just thinking: it would be WONDERFUL to have Shallan not be a POV character in part 2. Now that Kal is back and Shallan knows that he was probably the one who murdered her brother, it will be JUICY to just see how he reacts to her treatment of him rather than see it through her perspective. I think it's going to make for some great confusion and miscommunication between our two favourite broken people who may or may not have some feelings for each other.
  11. I'm going to stick with my original assessment of seeing Shallan's story through Jasnah's POV as Tertiary Character 3.
  12. I FEEL SO VINDICATED! On a thread this week about who was going to be absent in Part 2 I guessed Jasnah would show up in Urithiru at the end of part 1. I am so happy right now. This is the first time I've guessed something right lol
  13. I gotta say, there is nothing that is overtly spoilery in that review and I'm a bit confused as to the amount of people who are outraged about it. People here are picking it apart, but if - quite honestly - you count vague mentions of cryptic events in the book as 'spoilers', don't read any review; even if it is spoiler-free. I'd imagine giving a spoiler-free review is a bit of a tricky art considering all you'd want to do is talk about what happens, so teasing what happens is really the only thing you can do. If you're wanting a review completely devoid of anything that people are complaining about as 'spoilers', you'd likely get this: "It was really good, go read it."
  14. Nah I didn't think those swears would have been redacted lol.
  15. I started off trying to guess seriously, but then it devolved. I really don't have the sprawling cosmere awareness that most of the rest of you have so I hope you at least find this funny. It starts with us finally seeing DALINAR go CONFRONT the NIGHTWATCHER. Then it turns out CULTIVATION didn't BOND TARAVANGIAN the FIRST TIME, but KILLED HIM, and REPLACED HIM WITH A KANDRA. You get SCARED and it's immediately time for THE FIGHTING, and it's this epic ROMANTIC AFFAIR right away. Oh, and not only is it KALADIN VS ADOLIN, but just (swearing) JASNAH is DANCING. It turns out KELSIER was the OTHER BONDSMITH and VASHER was TRYING to be ON "THE PRICE IS RIGHT", and for a moment you BELIEVED HIM. All in RIRA AND IRI was so PURPLE, and BLUE. RICK FROM THE WALKING DEAD makes A CAMEO APPEARANCE the WORLD OVER. All the while, SHALLAN, RENARIN and WINNIE THE POOH are in PRISON (because of WINNIE'S PSYCHOPATHIC MURDER SPREE) at DEATH MOUNTAIN, fighting ADDICTION and trying to get HEALTHY, but the GOVERNMENT refuses to REPEAL OBAMACARE. RAND AL'THOR tries to get KALADIN to MAKE OUT, but HOMOPHOBES keeps KAL FROM BEING HIS TRUE SELF. All the while there's A CLOWN IN the BACK OF YOUR MIND. Oh also there are SASQUATCHES, because why not, clearly more needed to be happening. But then, THE STONEWALKER (the actual chapter title), PLAYED WITH THE (swearing) ROLLING STONES ONSTAGE. DALINAR just (swearing) VOMITED, or SOMETHING. KALADIN faces MOM and DAD and BABY BROTHER, and it is so This post has been reported for attempting to skirt the rulesING OVER-THE TOP BRUTAL. SHALLAN EATS GAZ'S ROTTING CORPSE, reaches CLIMAX, FALLS OVER, PRAYS to HONOUR, CULTIVATION, and THE SURVIVAL SHARD, and they are TRICKED into the FRAY and it's so freaking amazingly awesome. You see THOR and THE HULK IN ONE MOVE. Oh, and that's just the first half of the avalanche because then (swearing) DALINAR GOES OUT with ESHONAI and it's just insane. The most intense thing ever.
  16. I'm guessing Shallan because Kal's story in part 1 has been a bit lacking, I think it's going to pick up in part 2 rather than giving us a break from him. I'm going to guess, however, that Jasnah is going to show up in Urithiru at the end of part 1, and we're going to see Shallan's story continue through her viewpoint as 'Tertiary Character 3' in part 2.
  17. Nice, man! Have fun with it. I keep checking the bookstore whenever I go down to the shop to get groceries but no luck so far lol. My ebook should download on November 14!
  18. That was a deep cut and made me laugh out loud. Nice one
  19. Yeah that's what I was thinking. If he's got a cult of personality thing going on, why not have a ton of followers see gloryspren around you?
  20. I absolutely love these depictions, especially the back two; they look like something that could be hanging in the Louvre or the Met. And I'm going to go ahead and say that I'm really loving that the Heralds are being depicted as black and Asian. I know we have a whole variety of races on Roshar that are represented, but too often in fantasy fiction we see an abundance of white people as most of the stories are inspired by western/European folklore. Love to see the inclusivity and the continued subversion of the genre that Brandon's been up to in this series so far.
  21. Lift up his robes and you'll find Nikes on those gnarled old feet
  22. Great Heaven's Gate reference, that's a deep cut. Have an upvote my friend.
  23. I'd love to see him just do an outline for the Threnody book. That's gotta be the planet in the cosmere I'm most looking forward to exploring in more detail.
  24. I was originally going to do this all along, read the chapters as they come out and then re-read them, but to be honest, it flows so smoothly that I'm considering changing my stance. I'll probably re-read the prologue and first chapter or two and reassess if I want to just skip right ahead to part 2.
  25. Hey guys! Sorry if this is a re-post or derivative post or anything, but I saw axcellence's topic about what scenes people want to see in OB and most of what I could think of was seeing glimpses of our cosmerenauts showing up around Roshar: Zahel seeing Szeth with Nightblood... stuff like that. Got me to thinking that in the grand scheme of things Oathbringer is in all probability going to be the most cosmere-intensive book to date that Brandon's come along with, even if it's just what Jasnah has to say about her travels through the Cognitive Realm. We know worldhoppers have cropped up on Roshar more than any other planet so far and it seems to be a bit of a hub, so my question is... who do you want to see around Roshar from other planets? And what do you want them to be doing? Personally I'm a fan of the whole 'if Vasher is on Roshar then Vivenna must be hanging around there somewhere too' idea, so I'd love to see Vivenna show up... potentially as the queen of Theylenah (bit of a stretch but I'm a sucker for a good twist!)
