  1. I don't want to criticise Michael Whelan or anything, but he seems to be much later with this cover? I remember OB's cover was released like 8 months before the book, and we've barely got 4 to go for RoW. Is he just crazy busy these days or something?
  2. Hello fellow mind-readers, just wanted to let you know that Tay and I have started book 2 as of last night. Shadesmar is henceforth to be known as The Spooky-Spook.
  3. Somewhere, Adolin just had a panic attack that someone forgot about non-functional fashion.
  4. As far as I saw, Steve Argyle released it on his social media - no idea about the other prints (I haven't been keeping track tbh)
  5. So artist Steve Argyle released this fantastic artwork today with this caption: When asked on Twitter who the character on the right was, he simply said that she was a Bondsmith and gave a winky face, explaining that he couldn't elaborate. So what are our guesses? She's got a safehand sleeve but her skin looks significantly darker than Dalinar's Alethi tan. While it is more than likely some character we haven't met yet, I'm gonna go ahead and give a real left field prediction that it's going to be Khriss. She comes to Roshar, adopts the local customs, is chosen by the Nightwatcher due to her desire to bond the Cosmere together through her research: pow! Second Bondsmith. Who do you guys think?
  6. Nice explanation - I hadn't really thought about them releasing it as an ebook 'right away' like you mentioned, but you give a great breakdown of the steps it takes to really make this monster of a book land correctly.
  7. My wife is claiming royalties. (In all seriousness this is great! Well done, Overlord and Overlady!)
  8. I was thinking Moash was more of a Karl Malone.
  9. I love this. The back half of the series is just Kaladin smoking cigars and reminiscing on his 1998 season and talking about how the Lopen dyed his hair and never showed up to Bridge 4 practice. We'll call it The Last Windrun.
  10. I'll definitely admit that Stormlight was still kind of a side series that I enjoyed after reading Way of Kings until Words of Radiance landed and it immediately skyrocketed into the top spot.
  11. With all of the circumstantial evidence that we've deconstructed at this point, I feel like if it isn't Navani I will be genuinely surprised.
  12. Impressive. I get to waste so much more time now!
  13. @Pathfinder - excellent breakdown. You are aptly named as the Lord of Book Quotes.
  14. Vengeful doesn't necessarily mean 'torture someone until they beg for death' - being vengeful can mean that Jasnah knows that these men needed taking care of and she did it. She just happened to coincide this with a lesson for Shallan. I feel like we also need more information from her perspective to know whether or not this is a 'dealing with the vermin first chance she gets' kind of thing - who's to say that Jasnah hadn't been doing these kind of nighttime forays cleaning up the streets like Bruce Wayne for weeks while she was in Kharbranth? We can only see Shallan's perspective on her time there, which is why I'm so desperate to see her interpretation of things since she is so unknowable most of the time. Also, I'm not saying that Jasnah isn't haughty, but I definitely don't look at this act as classism against the common people.
  15. While I think that this is a hella philosophical debate that clearly hasn't been agreed upon (and probably never will be), I think that this scene apart from being right or wrong, was more of an indication to the audience what kind of a character Jasnah is: deliberate and calculating, with a fierce vengeful streak. The first time I read the scene I was also caught up in the umming and awwing over whether this was 'right', but on my third readthrough (this year), I found myself wondering what had been done to Jasnah in the past that made her take such deliberate action against men who would target women. As such, Jasnah is currently slated to be the flashback character for book 10, so I hope we get more hints at her past before that!
  16. How dare you make me read this theory with my own two eyes. I love it.
  17. I never realised that this thread was here! I first heard about Brandon after Robert Jordan died and Harriet had selected him to be the author of the final three books in the series. I was skeptical, but only because I hadn't ever heard of him. The first book of his I read was The Gathering Storm, but that doesn't exactly count as pure BrandoSando, but it was enough that I believed that he could do justice to the series I had come to love like nothing else (my wife and I eventually met and got married through a Wheel of Time facebook group), so I decided that this guy was worth a read on his own. At this time it was 2010 and I was wandering through my local bookstore when I saw a huge doorstopper with his name on it... The Way of Kings. Funnily enough, this was one day before the actual release of The Way of Kings was scheduled, so I accidentally got my first BrandoSando book a day early. Since then, I usually try to convince shop clerks to sell me the latest one a day in advance, but I've not had any luck. Also, I just get eBook versions now so it's less of a mission - I wake up and there's Oathbringer!
  18. There's no way that's Lift. That is definitely Shallan. I think the UK guy got the same brief as the Bulgarian guy - Shallan and Shadesmar.
  19. This is probably absolutely true. Meanwhile there's an influx of Truthwatchers because its the most academic order and we're, like you said, literally a community of geeks talking about books on the internet.
  20. Both times I took the quiz my top three were the same, with a really close finish between Lightweaver and Willshaper (only one point between them, 74 and 73) and then Windrunner. On my second try, I got Willshaper as top and then Lightweaver but again only separated by a point!
  21. I dunno about the rest of you, but finding out what order I'm in is kind of secondary to the fantastic blurbs and hints about each order's oaths which is the top prize for me!
  22. Morning all, As most of you probably did, I took the Knights Radiant Quiz on Brandon's website this morning and I coerced Tay into doing the same. Much to her delight, I ended up as a Lightweaver and she landed on Windrunner - exactly as she predicted all those weeks ago when she said she was Kaladin and I was Shallan. *sigh*
  23. Since we got OB's cover art in March back in 2017 I was expecting a similar timeline. Now that June is here I'm going a little crazy.
  24. I took my cue from the crystallized trees that are in both, but I'm not sure what the UK artist has admitted
  25. Also: anyone got a line on this art on its own without the text on it? I'd love to make it a desktop background.
