I am a 16 yr old wannabe writer, and Cosmere fan. AMA
The Gecko replied to NamelessThirteenth's topic in AMAs
@NamelessThirteenth In the event of a Zombie squirrel apocalypse, on a scale from one to twelve, which are your favorite color of the alphabet? Which is your 4th favorite finger? What is the 14th letter of your full name if the names are backwards yet still in order?( hi to go gives ih ot og) What is your favorite color? What is your Hogwarts house? Which was/is your favorite class/subject in school? Which order of radiant would you be in? Aluminum gnat or duralumin gnat? Which misting and ferring would you choose to be? Favorite cosmere character? Least favorite cosmere character?(both preference and plot-wise) You get 1 cosmere power, which will you choose? Single metal of single type, single surge, lets say: 200 breaths, single aon, that kind of thing. I forgot my most important question: Would you like a cookie? -
I am sorry that I did not see these questions earlier guys. I really love Hoid's philosophical discussions in stormlight. Particularly Hood's story of fleet with Kaladin Not particularly, I can solve a Rubiks cube, but It takes about a minute, unless it is 2 by 2, which only takes 15ish seconds. I also have a very unique clicking sound with my tongue. Me and my sister are the only people I have ever met who can do it. (So of course, we designed a language) Skybreakers for sure, though I am trying to be more Windrunner like. His name is Raul, and I am pretty sure he is the first and only person I have truly despised. I cannot think of a single person, in or out of the cosmere, that would have a single reason to like him in the slightest. I have been trying to think for 10 minutes and the best match I can come up with is Bluth and the other guard of Tvlakv before Shallan met them, at the beginning of WoK

I hope you didn't join here to stop posting on facebook and telling people about the books, because the shard has a habit of making it worse(well, better). Before long you won't be able to say a sentence without some obscure cosmere reference that only you understand, or a paragraph without inviting someone to read.

Well hello there, and welcome to the shard! Here, have a perfectly safe(ish) cookie that is 100(ish) percent spike free! Question for you: What is your fifth favorite finger?
-
I too have been converted. On a side note, did anyone see all the hemalurgic spikes sticking out of their hands and feet? Sloth inquisitors indeed.
-
The Sloth inquisitors have been storing speed their entire lives. Fear the day they decide to attack. You will die before you knew it began.
-
Hello and welcome to the shard! Here have a cookie! They are perfectly harmless and completely spike free(ish)

I have a much better selection of cookies that are far superior to any cookies that this @LopenTheTwoArmedHerdazian could possibly offer, take mine instead!

People you wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley

I am glad to know my ideas will contribute to our mass production of cookies Does this mean I get to be a Dark Alley member? -
Yesterday a (slightly less competent) friend of mine mentioned something about carrots being good for your eyesight. I proceeded to tell him that yes, carrots are good for your eyesight. Assuming the carrot was made of tin, and actually wasn't a carrot at all and instead a hemalurgic spike that was recently stabbed through another persons heart. I then proceeded to explain the intricacies of Hemalurgy without offering any context. His only response was: "This isn't real, is it?"

Now I am curious if we can spike out powers that have been spiked in, and if compounding gold can heal spiritual wounds from the part of your soul that has been stapled on. If that was the case, we could spike anybody with both gold powers and any other power to repeatedly create new spikes of that third power -

Better yet, when we gather the first spike, we leave them alive enough to get the second power. Or we could give them spikes making them twinborn gold, spike the powers out of them, and let their compounding abilities heal both the physical and spiritual damage. When we have the number of spikes we want, we take back our gold spikes and let our customer find their own way out. However that may be -

I have been nominated to join the little dark alley bake sale by @MacThorstenson because of my interest in nigh infinite cookie potential from rats. What do I need to do? -
Sounds fun, How do I sign up and what powers do I get? Also another thought, why can you only spike one power out of something? If you don't necessarily have to kill whatever you are spiking, can't you spike something, an then spike it's mutilated and changed, but still living body? If that was the case, we could do great things with Mistborn. Even greater things with Fullborns compounding gold.
-
I have an idea, but it has major OB spoilers
-
Now the question is, can animals have breaths? And are they born with them? If they can and do, then we want them to have a little intelligence, so we can brainwash them to give it to us. If they can't give it to us, we spike it out of them.
-
We could use the spikes we make from the rats to make more lord beavers. And cats. And Sloths. And Geckos. And rusting whatever we wanted to spike.
-
Precisely, you cannot store stormlight, but you can store your ability to use stormlight. That's how the medallions work, they are two+ unkeyed metalmind rings, one is nicrosil, granting you the ability to use the other one. So you drain the Nicrosil so you can tap/store from the other one. We know that only people with the certain abilities can use unkeyed metalminds without nicrosil, as we saw that only Wayne could use the gold one. Correct me if I am wrong
-
That is fine, as long as it is after we run out of atium to compound, or some Vin 2.0 takes us out
-
From what I understand, you cannot store stormlight and then compound it, instead you store the ability? So that when you tap a stormlight metalmind, you tap the ability to use stormlight. So as a Nicrosil compounded you could worldhop, grab a spike or an honorblade, and fill your nicrosilmind while you have it, then put it back and keep the ability forever
-
So, you split up the lerasium to maximize the number of rats and power of their allomancy as mistings, and attempt to breed them to make them stronger and into Mistborn and spike whatever you want from them, while being careful to leave an adequate number of rats in the breeding population. We could also commit mass genocide on all the other rats in existence and effectively make all rats ever allomancers. We can then let them run free and breed on their own, making the entire rat population on earth allomancers capable of being spiked. With pure Lerasium blood lines, it would only get better
-
And if you never introduce non allomancer rats to the population, the Allomantic powers will never dilute. If any rats are born without powers, just remove them from the population. Bam... infinite Hemalurgy powers Also, is it possible to increase the power of lerasium allomancy through careful breeding? Isn't that similar to what the set is trying to do? Don't we do that on a regular basis with other things? Why not Allomancy?

Fitting Non-Brandon Characters into Radiant Orders
The Gecko replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in Stormlight Archive
While reading Les Miserables, I noticed the beautiful comparison between Javert and Jean Valjeans conflict and the conflict between the Skybreakers and the Windrunners. Jean Valjean is a Windrunner, though possibly a Edgedancer? Javert is obviously a Skybreaker. Without any doubt. Perhaps the Bishop would make a good Edgedancer Any others from Les Miserables that are so obvious? -
This is brilliant! Imagine the Hemalurgy possibilities if you were to give a handful of rats Lerasium and breed them like crazy. The set is trying to make an allomancer army or mistborn, but it would go so much faster by stealing powers from your allomancer rat army

So while looking for evidence as to who Odium really is on this other thread I came across something fascinating: Reiss' theory of base desires. What caught my eye was the number of desires: 16. I can't find perfect correlations for all the currently known shards but there are some. I assume Sanderson would have edited them for his own needs and purposes but hopefully we can piece some stuff together. Alrighty, here is the list of 16 desires with the shards I think may fit with it. Acceptance Curiosity Eating- Survival Family- possibly Endowment? Honor- Honor (who would've thought?) Idealism Independence- Autonomy Order Physical Activity Power- Dominion Romance Saving- Preservation Social contact Social status- possibly Ambition? Tranquility- possibly Devotion? Vengeance So I am missing a few shards on here, namely Odium, Cultivation and Ruin, but there is Vengeance, Order and idealism that may work If this works and we then find good words to describe the desires, perhaps we could figure out the rest of the shards. If you agree with my idea, Shard names for the others would be appreciated I hope this theory holds some water, but have fun ripping it to pieces!
