You won't "get flack", but people may disagree with you. Personally, after WoK, I never felt that Kaladin was any more important than Shallan or Dalinar, so "Kaladin Chapter 2" never happened for me. But everyone reads the books differently, it's part of what makes them so great!

I absolutely agree, I should have specified that the "no it wasn't moral" was also just from my persepctive. But in-world I have zero issues with Adolins actions and think it was the best course of action available. All alternatives I have seen listed would have had disastrous consequences.
-
Sure you can. The first Oath doesnt always mean what you think it does. Teft provides an explanation, not the explanation. There were multiple orders that would be ok with Adolin killing Sadeas, and given the lack of other option I think it was fine. Was it right (as in moral)? No. Was it right (as in the correct course of action)? For me, yes.

Lieutenant Dan. I can totally see her remaining disabled as a KR but only if she gets to RIDE A LANCERYN instead. Because that would be awesome.

Agree with the first, couldn't disagree more with the last. How are you defining "man of honor"?

"Why I don't like Adolin" / "Why I do like Adolin"
Jace21 replied to Ixthos's topic in Stormlight Archive
That's fine, but I'll ask you the same question I asked @Sedside earlier in the thread. How do you think Sadeas should have died? Trying a social reform during the apocalypse is insane and the legal system couldn't touch him. I have no people disagreeing with me and saying Adolin shouldn't have killed Sadeas but a realistic alternative would be nice. I also think that "fit of anger" =/= "not protecting anyone. Adolin was enraged, no doubt, but it was Sadeas refusal to let go, threats against his family and past crimes that made Adolin so angry. So he was protecting his family and his people, that was the very reason for his anger, at least in my opinion. As for Wit congratulating him, Wit is an "ends justify the means type. Remember his "I would let this world burn" speech? He has no issue with people being killed when they need to be. -
Which is why I said it depends what you mean by limit. Though like I said, I believe his capacity is capped well below a shard for other reasons too.

"Why I don't like Adolin" / "Why I do like Adolin"
Jace21 replied to Ixthos's topic in Stormlight Archive
Then whose was it? Elhokar's? It would have split the kingdom and started a full-blown civil war mid-desolation. Sadeas made it clear he would do anything to gain and retain power, so reason/negotiation was also out the window. Which leaves having him quietly removed, ideally in a way that gives leaders like Elhokar/Dalinar plausable deniability. Mission accomplished. To the OP, all in all I like Adolin a lot. I find that the majority of the time he acts in a far more realistic manner than other characters and seems, to me, to be trying his best even if he doesn't always succeed. -
Do we have any evidence this would work? It seems more logical to me that the steel you make would only give you back the investiture needed to make the same amount of steel so there would be no net gain. I'd go with Elantrian and Steelrunner. F-steel to overcome the speed issues of Aon Dor and not be as stationary as a-bendalloy.

I doubt that sort of thing is his resonance as itbhas nothing to do with his current abilities. I know they don't have to relate but those seen so far do, at least partially. Plus I would be disappointed if Wayne's disguise/acting skills were in any way magical.

To be burn a non-Scadrian Shards gometal you would need a connection to that Shard. So a normal misborn couldn't do it. But Kal could probably swallow some Lerasium, become a Mistborn and burn Syl. That was just an example, I would be horrified if that happened.

Worldhopper Elantrians
Jace21 replied to The Grumpy Elantrian's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
That could certainly be a location-hack. If it would work I am guessing the issue would be figuring out which Mai Pon symbols correspond to which Aons. Maybe the moon scepter would help here since it's function seems to be translation. -
Access to Dragonsteel Prime
Jace21 replied to TheFoxQR's topic in Sanderson Curiosities & Unpublished Works
I moved to Provo a year ago and read it in a few hours. Now I read quite fast but one sitting isn't out of the question, if depends how long a "sitting" you have time for. -
It depends what you mean by limit I guess. Oathbringer Spoilers

For functional immortality he woukd need double atium. Gold compunding would give him a slightly extended life but that's it. As to the OP the smiliarities are definitely there, the main difference being, as you said, Wayne's self-awareness.

Not entirely true.We have WoB that the basic metals all draw power from Preservation that is shaoed by the metal. The exception, as you say, are Godmetals like Atium. To burn a Godmetal you need to be an allomancer, and be Connected to the Shard whose metal it is. Ruin isn't an issue as Scadrians are connected to Ruin due to his involvement in their creation. Hemalurgy doesn't have the same requirements so while Trellium can be hsed as a spike, it would only be burnable if you were Connected to "Trell". Yes, they would be used up. The act of "filtering" the power into a specific effect seems ti be what consumes them. There's no reason I can see why that would change if the power came from Lift's ability rather than preservation. The function of the metal hasn't changed.

Invesiture in the physical realm is in physical/liquid/gaseous form. The manifestation of a Radiantspren transitioned fully into physical is solid. That is not the same as condensing Stormlight into a solid as Stormlight already exists in the physical a gas. Whereas Spren default to solid invesitiure, Sotrmlight is gaseous. It may be possible to make stormlight solid (it has been proposed as a possibe origin of Plate) we don't know what it would be, but almost certainly NOT the same as Blade metal.
-
They don't have investiture without metals. I specifically said they get their investiture from Preservation. The point I was making was that Lift's investiture from food wouldn't help her access allomany. While she could use her food investiture as the source instead of Preservation (with a hack), she would still need the metal to access/filter the power. So if an Allomancer to wield Nightblood it would be by burning metals constantly so that Nightblood could feed on Preservations investiture as they draw on it.
-
I get the impression that the only side effects of using a little stormlight often would be feeling strange without it. There are almost certainly side effecrs of holding too much at once, Jasnah says the body isn't meant for it. But whether its possible under normal circumstances or what the sode effects could be, I dont know.
-
I agree, this is what I meant at rhe end of my previous post. It could be useful, in essence she would be a stronger allomancer than if she just used Preservations power but the hack required would probably make the cost outweigh the benefit.

Nightblood's Inception - A Cosmere Theory
Jace21 replied to Blightsong's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Sure, they're both sentient investiture but how they get that way is very different. Since Nightblood has never died he can't be a cognitive shadow, I believe there's a WoB somewhere. Semantics I know but it just helps distinguish that Nightblood could have a divine breath and be a Spren without being a Returned due to the different processes involved. -
Nightblood's Inception - A Cosmere Theory
Jace21 replied to Blightsong's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The OP was claiming that Nightblood inherited a Divine Breath, not that he is returned. So while you are correct that he is an awakened object and not a cognitive shadow, therefore not a Returned, the OP's idea is still possible. -
Does lift glow? Because it's possible she can only turn food into Stormlight, not any investiture. If it is general investiture I personally think she would still need the metal as it is the filter. A mistborn without metal isn't lacking the "investiture" as that comes from Preservation, they lack the filter/conduit and I think Lift would also still need it. What she might be able to do is superflare her metal by using it filter Preservations power and her own food investiture, in essence making her a stronger allomancer.

I doubt Sja-Anat could, but Shards almost certainly can. That's essentially what Yelig-Nar seems to be.

As far as Honor and Oaths seem to be concerned, I don't think the reason for breaking an oath matters. Broken is broken. Especially for the Stonewards, who seem to prefer death to failure. Secret or they just didn't know. It's possible the Heralds were rarely in each others company on Roshar, or Taln bonded the Spren more recently when their minds were cracking and they missed the signs. I agree Nale is likely correct, but possible alternatives together with his qualification that "I believe I am the only one" makes me think someone else may have. Personally, if I am using the phrase "I believe" in this situation, it means I think I'm right but accept the very real possibility that I am mistaken.
