  1. Your theory makes perfect sense until it gets past the basic eight metals... for the temporal one, I think something else is at play.
  2. Then you get into the fiddly area of "detriment" and "benefit". After all, if this magic system gives you, let's call them "karmic points" for being "selfless", than you are getting a definite benefit to yourself. That's just business. Ooooo.... is Capitalism a Shard?
  3. Shouldn't this be in the Stormlight Archives forum?
  4. Perhaps Endowment is an awakener? Or somesuch? That would make sense if the humans on Nalthis were created by Endowment.
  5. How do you define selfish/selfless, after all? Actions can benefit yourself and others.
  6. It's how the French won World War III! Oops... I wasn't supposed to tell you about that for another twenty-eight years. Raymond! Fetch my neuralizer!
  7. I'll just call you Steve.
  8. Looks like it will be for PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and Mac. Everybody but the Linux users are happy. And the poor Amish. Nobody ever builds Quilt OS support into their games.
  9. That is a fair point. Of course, that brings the number of Chromatic majiggers down to four, which abides by the law of 16. Speaking of 16, why is it that there are 16 Shards? Is it because all the shards combined compliment each other? Perhaps this is a viable theory: 16 is an Adnolasium related number, and therefore appears in the way a shard interacts with the world. 10 is a number related to the shardworlds themselves, and therefore appears in the way the world interacts with the shard. ... ... Okay, that didn't make any sense. So, here's how that fits with what we know of numbers in the cosmere. The reason that Allomantic metals are grouped into groups of 4, 8, and 16 is because those metals were present before they had Allomantic properties. Preservation "selected" metals in 16-based groups to work with allomancy. Not saying it was a conscious process, but whatever. The reason there are ten essences on Roshar is that those essences existed on Roshar before, and that soulcasting does not actually add properties, just changes between those ten. There are ten heightenings, I believe, because those properties existed already in humans, and are accessed by Breaths... Okay, it doesn't work with that last one. I think this is more of a starting place, anyway.
  10. Honestly, at this time in Nalthis's history, most people aren't very familiar with how BioChroma works, and even Vasher may not know exactly how it works. Consider that Kelsier was one of the most experienced allomancers alive during his time, but there was still no way he could know about the temporal metals. Perhaps there is another way to use breaths, maybe involving the Tears of Edgli... Or maybe several more.
  11. As Commissioner Gordan would say, it's just escalation. Watch out. Zombie Heath Ledger is coming for you... *EDIT*: Heat Ledger hasn't been an assassin for years. I don't know what I was thinking.
  12. So there are the 16 normal metals, the 16 Lerasium based metals and 16 Atium based metals... Are there also 16 Epic Metals?
  13. @Chaos: Where ought this to be moved to? I agree that this thread now has little/nothing to do with whether or not the Cosmere Universe Opens Up For a Sci-Fi Setting.
  14. I declare this theory to be Exceptionally Shiny. This explains elegantly why there appear to be two numerical systems. On the subject of Aons: If I remember correctly, the most basic Aon has four lines, correct? Perhaps that in of itself is a reflection of the law of 16.
  15. I always thought it was weird that Preservation's magic system essentially adds energy. After all, in the trilogy it actually says that Preservation couldn't create anything without Ruin, only keep it the way it is. To me, it makes more sense for Feruchemy to be Preservation's magic system and Allomancy to be balance... Hmmm...
  16. You have unchained the beast... (Puts on wordhat) Let's rock and roll.
  17. Well, to determine if ChayShan is a balance magic, we can first look at how the magic of Domination and Devotion compare. Aon Dor- Aon Dor does very similar things to the Dahkor Monks, apparently. The difference seems to be how you become able to use it. It has been postulated that one undergoes the Shaod as a result of being Devoted to something. Dakhor Monks- On the other hand, Dakhor Monks can be created. It is possible that they gain these powers as a result of being Dominated. It follows that if ChayShan is a balance magic, it does both or neither. The best example we have right not is Feruchemy, which shares a focus with Allomancy and Hemalurgy, but does not Preserve or Ruin. The effects seem to cancel. Perhaps it follows that ChayShan shares a focus, form, with the other investitures of Sel, but does not Dominate or Devote.
  18. He's not dead... I... I let him go.
  19. After all, Brandon has already said there will be a Mistborn trilogy set with what us non-Scadrians would call future technology, so it's pretty much guaranteed.
  20. That poor parrot... I still feel bad about that one.
  21. Oh don't even start on the the other thing. Think of the children!
  22. I didn't even want to kill him! I was just walking along and then he was right there, and he was all like "Can I have some of your bagels?" when he was already eating them. Jerk stole my bagels, and he paid the price.
  23. Honestly, I have not read the series, but I'm not sure how you could be less original than the Inheritance Cycle...
  24. Forgery sounds cooler. The other name was far too grave. You may now digitally punch me in the face for that pun.
  25. I would not know, having never read Patrick Rothfuss or killed any kings. Except for that one time. But we don't like to talk about that.
