Best Brandon character *spoilers*
Commander Spoonface replied to Zarepath's topic in General Brandon Discussion
And somehow he used that reading to attract Vin. That takes skills. (When a Ska is awesome, do we say they have Skalls?) -
For some reason, I've always associated Gavilar with the "good" side. I can't give a logical explanation as to why, but I suspect that he would rather have destroyed something evil than give it to Sazed. Unless he was trying to keep it away from Dalinar.

I don't know if Hoid will be the one to gather all the Shard powers into one person. Perhaps Honor will be responsible, binding seems to be his primary gig. I like the idea of the reformed Knights Radiant gallivanting about the Cosmere, collecting powers from the various shards, and then finally facing down Odium's champion, who holds the power of his shard, for an epic battle to the death. Alternatively, Odium could gain influence/power over some of the shards with "bad" intents, like Domination, or Ruin (wonder how Sazed will react to that) and you could have an 8 on 8 Shardic throwdown of good vs. evil.

Under normal circumstances it would be nearly impossible to burn anything other than solid metal- all metals except mercury (which does nothing allomantically) have to be extremely hot to be liquid or gaseous, and would cause horrible, lethal burns going down the throat of the allomancer. However: If the allomancer in question was a twinborn for Brass Feruchemicly, then could they store heat in such a way that the metal wouldn't hurt them? Or would the drop in heat just cause it to become soild in the allomancer's gullet, choking them to death? Or can the heat even be stored before it it fully ingested? In order to know, I think we'd need a better understanding of how storing/tapping warmth works. I think that you might only be able to store direct body heat, not heat from external sources, in which case drinking a liquid steel protein shake is a tremendously bad idea. Oooo... in the future, do non-alcohol drinking allomancers ingest metal flakes as part of protein shakes? P.S. Kudos for the topic subtitle, Billy Joel is awesome.

Best Brandon character? Duh, it's Leavenworth Smedry! EDIT: The explanation arrived late to this thread, sorry. Why is he the best? Because he's awesome. And he's old. And as we all now, G=I*A*N*S That is to say, Gross Awesomeness is equal to Inherent Awesome times age times the Ninja Constant (1 if they are not a ninja, 8.74563 if they are), times how many shoes they can wear at one time. Math! -

Does that make Spook Robin? -
If eating vegetables gave people the ability to burn pewter, I would have no objection to broccoli.

This seems mostly focusesd on SA characters, but what about Kelsier? Wife dies? MURDER EVERYONE. Attacked by Hazekillers? MURDER EVERYONE. Ska getting executed? MURDER EVERYONE. INCLUDING A FREAKING INQUISITOR. The only person who could kill him was a God! Or what about Vin? Faced with a basically immortal guy you have always considered a god who is trying to kill you? Rip pieces of metal out of his body and cut off his head with a spear. And since we're already doing memes here: EDIT: How can I make that image smaller? It's quite large? Also, should this thread be marked "Spoilers"? -
Since the second trilogy is going to be roughly modern times, I imagine it sort of like this: The inhabitants of the other side of Scadrial, far more advanced (though not necessarily 1000 years ahead due to various limiting factors and Rashek's likely meddling of some sort) now dominate Scadrial. Since they have almost no allomancy, they declare it unholy/illegal and start hunting down allomancers. A hidden group of allomancers (Mistborn bred by The Set?) must work to destroy the dictatorial rule of the Hyperscadrians (for lack of another name) using a combination of allomancy and feruchemy. This comes from gut instinct, but I think there's going to be some sort of search for a mythical Mistborn/Full Feruchemist who has been living secretly compounding health for hundreds of years (making them old, but alive, since they are not likely to have Atium).

Not necessarily. Modern science believes that about 50% of your personality is determined/heavily influenced by genetic traits.

Will Kelsier Show up in the second Mistborn Trilogy
Commander Spoonface replied to Aeshdan's topic in Mistborn
If Sazed, with the power of Ruin and Preservation, couldn't resurrect Vin and Elend, how would Kelsier come back? -
If he chooses to pronounce is Kel-seer, and the character pronounce it Kel-see-ay, does that make their pronunciation an in-world linguistic oddity? If so, ought we to pronounce it that way?
-
Listening to the Mistborn audio book, apparently Kelsier is pronounced KEL-seer, Elend is pronounced EH-lend, and Sazed is pronounced SAY-zed. Lot's of first syllable accents.

Will Kelsier Show up in the second Mistborn Trilogy
Commander Spoonface replied to Aeshdan's topic in Mistborn
In AoL, Marsh seems to refer to Kelsier in a present tense (though the tense isn't actually specified). "He does my brother's work." This could mean surviving, in general, or perhaps something a little more specific. -
Wait, does that make Adonalsium a Marty Stu character?
-
Maybe because of the opposing nature of Preservation and Ruin, Feruchemy is of both shards but displays the attributes of neither. Ergo, nothing lost, nothing gained. Another theory on why surging takes a little extra of the attribute is this: because Feruchemy is basically human attributes with the time of use changed, it takes less energy to tap the energy at the same rate it was stored. As the rate increases, however, some power is lost. This is usually so small it's unnoticeable, but when a massive amount of an attribute is tapped all at once, i.e. surging, it is possible to notice the lost power.
-
Aw man, I was hoping for a combustible rule book... (I am aware of the spelling difference but for some reason I thought it was the other way around.)
-
Is the RPG cannon? We do know that even Ferrings/Feruchemists have an incomplete understanding of Feruchemy itself. Is it possible that they aren't aware of the ability to tap various kinds of Connection? After all, Tin can store all the senses, but it is only one metal.
-
Actually, Hoid=Batman would explain a lot. The same principle of escalation might apply as well...
-
Ah, but do we know that Hoid is human?
-
My own theory is that humans/Shardworlds didn't exist as we know them. I think that Adonalsium was the Power of Creation, essentially the purest, greatest form of energy in the universe. However, it existed in a completely static form- a Shard, with a single, conscious, all-encompassing entity that holds the power in the way a Shardholder does. For some reason, over time, the power began to split along the 16 lines we see (Honor, Odium, Cultivation, etc.) and the entity with it. Eventually, the discrepancy between the entity's split personalities became too great to bear, the inherent differences of intent too opposing, and Adonalsium shattered. The entities that originally held the various shards were somehow destroyed, which allowed for people like Ati and Leras to eventually take up the shards.

A question: has it ever been confirmed there are points on the body that do not serve as bind points? I see two options that could explain that: 1) Bind points are relatively large/there are many of them, so they cover the entire body. 2) Bind points are smaller, but cover the body in such a way that you would need an impossibly thin spike to avoid piercing at least one.

Well, you would need to define what "smart" is. Sazed taps mental speed to help him reach conclusions in the WoA. I propose that an average intelligence Zinc Compounder's mind would work so fast that, given advanced mathamatical training, work out calculus or relativity in just a few hours. Remember, a Compounder has almost incomprehensible Feruchemical stores. So as long as they can remained focused, anyone would be able to evaluate and try hundreds of thousands of permutations. As I see it, a compounder tapping mental speed would essentially be working in mental bullet time. Their mind would be processing information so fast that their senses, unless tin enhanced or something, probably couldn't keep up. Essentially, they could enter a state wherein they are processing what they see hundreds of thousands of times before their brain gets new information from their optic nerves. In this way, a zinc compounder might be able to observe every single detail of a scene before it changes. If they kept this up long enough, to their mind they would enter a state of never-changing perception, i.e. they would continue to experience whatever scene they started tapping in as long as they continue to tap zinc. It would be like having a hundred years to think something over, figure it all out, and then stop tapping and almost no time has passed. I can see this being extremely useful in combat. Imagine, Parvulio "Zincy" Lawrence is having a shoot out in the roughs with some nefarious outlaw. He spots the outlaw's head, and starts compound-burning/tapping zinc. In the time he has, he is able to mentally calculate the position of the outlaw, the forces involved with the bullet, the trajectory of the bullet and the relative wind speeds, etc., all in time that he knows exactly where to position his gun so he can end the outlaw's life of crime.
