Sovereign's Identity (Secret History Spoilers)
Sheridan_rd replied to Rage_Fortress's topic in Mistborn
As far as I know Mistwraith's didn't survive the Catecande (of course I could be wrong) and have not been mentioned in Alloy of Law series. I have wondered why the Lord Ruler didn't make himself a Kandra when he Ascended, thus eliminating the need to be dependent on Atium to store youth.- 58 replies

mistborn Compounding Mechanics and Theories
Sheridan_rd replied to YungDankBlast's topic in Mistborn
I may be alone in this opinion, but I believe a double Pewter twinborn could store strength in their pewter mind by burning Pewter, which would be the disproportionate strength from Alcomancy and not the increase in muscle size typical of a Brute (pewter ferring). So despite Compounding granting more "strength", storing Alcomancy pewter would have significant advantages. (I.e. - being Superman compared to the Hulk -
Yeah, I haven't had the privilege of attending a book signing and discuss my theories with the source. I just read the books and make educated guess

I kind of thought it was a reference to the actual Voidbringers and the Listeners ability to predict the Highstorm from their rhythms
-
I believe this will have to do with Identity and Connection. Likely Ettmetal cores will be used to give the Ship Identity, thus the speed bubble will surround them and their inhabitants

I do agree that this would make Pulsers over-powered!!! However, I would enjoy the irony/symbolism of a scientific discovery making a previously useless "magic power" into something awesome. *(This is also why I have difficulty writing lol)

I've been thinking how Aluminum blocks the physical and mental External Alcomancy. I see no reason it would also negate the External Temporal metals. If a person was shielded (50% or more of there body covered with Aluminum ) they would not be effected by time bubbles. 1. Slider could freeze everyone in there proximity but still more at regular speed. Useful in medicine/surgery and combat. 2. Pulser (or Ettmetal power core) could create a bubble around a ship to more at FTL but crew would experience normal time.

Makes sense. Awakening is of the Cognitive realm, allowing a person to imbue a semblance of life into a corpse creating a Lifeless. Any skills that remain areally muscle memory and cognitive residue. Alcomancy which is Investitures, wouldn't be replicated. (Maybe with a LOT of Breath )

1. I wonder if burning Awakened metal would increase the strength of the stored Breath? 2. Would a Lifeless created from a dead Metalborn still have access to Alcomancy /Feruchemy?

My bet is on Shardplate! Shardplate initially ran off a Radiant's Stormlight, then fabrials were added so a non-Surgebinder could gain the benefits via Stormlight in gems. It is possible that this artificial connection to Stormlight could also have healing effects (in very small effectiveness). Dalinar is a rare case in terms of the length of time he has worn Shardplate, which is a "likely" cause why the surgeon is surprised by any extrodinary recovery
-
That might have been intentional by Sazed, to ensure a person couldn't directly acquire more Investitures from his God metal. On a side note. When I first read BoM I thought Ettmetal was Lithium, a real world metal that explodes with contact to water.
-
Night blood wouldn't be a Shard. More like a sliver of Empowerment. (Very similar to a Returned). Biochromatic Breath works on the Cognitive realm to effect the Physical realm. And Spren are from the Cognitive realm as well.

It is stated in BoM that the enhancement metals were extremely rare during the final empire. So the LR might not have the forsight to have Nicrosil near Lutheral. Cause a keyed Nicrosil Mind will allow a full born to tap their Alcomancy multiple times over. Such a Metal Mind might be usable by an Aluminum Ferring but not the mythical Bands of Mourning for anyone. Hopefully we will learn in future books why Kelsier made the Alloy Era Bands!

Which powers would you choose? [Bands of Mourning spoilers]
Sheridan_rd replied to Erandeni's topic in Mistborn
I'll post 2 if I may. 1. F Aluminum and Nicrosil and A Pewter. Because I believe that combo makes accessible unkeyed Metal minds, and who "couldn't use Pewter Alcomancy?", so it would be easy to sell. Would make the Olympics far more interesting, lol 2. But I would personally go for, again A-Pewter and F Zinc and F Gold. The Benifits of F Zinc have been mentioned above and so has F Gold. And since burning Pewter increases physical health and mental speed (see WoA), I wouldn't have to diminish my own attributes to fill my Metal Minds -
My guess a Nicrosil metal mind would store Awakened intuition. Vasher claimed princess Vivian was such a quick study because of her natural strong Breath (royal loches) and her Heightening. Not particularly useful, but not all magic powers are

Aluminum IS used to unkeyed the investiture, which would allow a Tineye to store his Alcomancy in an Nicrosil mind. This process (I believe ) would also negate a Savant's damage to his Spirit web. Thus Savant or not the Nicrosil Mind would just hold Alcomancic Tin. Secondly, I was referring to the effects of Biochromatic Breath. Such as enhanced strength, speed, health, hearing, sight. Take a Bloodmaker storing health "might" diminish their Bio Aura, then exaggerate their Aura when tapping their Gold mind. I wondered if Awakening while tapping such a metal mind would make the effect more powerful? I.E. Tapping enough health to replicate the healing of a Divine Breath

A physical Ferring possessing Biochromatic Breath could likely store their Heightening's effects in there metal mind. My question is, when tapping said metal mind would their Aura increase and their Breath be more potent in Awakening?

Unkeyed Nicrosil minds work by erasing the fillers Identity. Savantism is a spiritual wound, which would be transferred with Hermelugy but shouldn't be stored in a metal mind

I doubt Nicrosil Mind would store the Nahel bond, thus someone tapping an unkeyed Metal mind would gain the innate benifits of holding Stormlight (strength, speed, increased healing) without the ability to Surgebind. Where as a already Surgebinder would likely find Stormlight working more efficiently (like Kaladin compared to Szeth). However, I still like the idea of someone able to store Vast amounts of Stormlight in a metal mind to use during the Weeping, repairing Shardplate, Soul Casting, etc..

I could be that Lerasium Feruchemy is similar to Atium Hemalurgy. Lerasium could be used as a substitute for any other metal for a Ferchemist's metal mind to store any attribute?

If a Surgebinder Soulbearer storing a Nicrosil metal mind be storing Stormlight or the ability to use Stormlight?

I believe it has been said anyone can receive Biochromatic Breath. However, I would suspect an non-native Nalthis would have difficulty Awakening without a connection to the planet. Can Breath be transfer/Awakening accomplished on a planet other than Nalthis?

It has been repeatedly confirmed that Metalborn from Scardinal would have an easier time using their magic on other planets/Shard worlds. So, I am curious what the effect of mixing Investitures from other worlds with Alcomancy/Feruchemy. To start off this discussion : 1. Could an Alcomancer burn a piece of metal invested with Biochromatic Breath from Nalthis? 2. Could a Ferchemist Bloodmaker store health from Stormlight on Roshar?

Considering how long this thread is, I didn't expect to be the first "devil's advocate". Compounding requires the metal mind be originally filled by the user, for the 10 fold return on investment to occur. In Miles case: He was a moderately healthy middle aged man. Storing a little bit of health in his gold mind would be easy, than compounding would provide a "seemingly" infinite supply back. Howe've the Lord Ruler was oooooold! To store up the necessary youth to appear 30, he would need to store then compound Atium constantly. Compounding most of his other metals (pewter, gold, etc..) to survive the times he wasn't tapping his Atium mind. I believe the LR was at his limit with compounding, and was betting on the WoA power to "recharge" him enough to survive the next decade.

That phrase implies the horneaters have a coming of age ritual, in which some develop special abilities. Similar to Avian in "Sixth of Dusk". Perhaps a comparable ritual existed for the ancient Terris that over many generations became inherent
