Nah, Amaran didn't even move, he just shouted and reached with his hand starting to summon his Shardblade, that was enough for Iyatil to run away. He never ran after her.

Fullborn V.S. 5th Ideal Windrunners
alder24 replied to Wits instant noodles's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The Bondsmith spren are different. Stormfather was enraged by the idea of bonding with Dalinar. He didn't want to risk getting killed by broken Oaths. Whatever they had, it wasn't a effects giving Radiant bond. But blades are also larger so they are further apart. For now, I'm to lazy right now to search for more: Then invest those piercings and make them into chromiumminds. Because intent is very important, he can still burn them as regular metals (Inquisitors weren't able to figure out compounding). I doubt it would work like this, because then gold healing would replace muscle gained from tapping pewter into normal sized. And even if tapping brass would just heat up that tissue to correct temperature immediately so no burns. It just doesn't make sense for gold to replace your hot tissue with cold. There is nothing wrong with you. Oh wow. Good thing I wasn't on the Shard back then, I would add like 10 pages more- 456 replies

Elentrians, Dakor Monks, and Hemalurgy
alder24 replied to Kendelian's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
So you need to steal a connection to the land, and steal their ability to become Elantrian, so 2 spikes are needed for this. But no idea what would happen if you gave that to Dakhor monks. They negate Aons, so likely they would not be able to use Aons.- 4 replies

Dalinar is not. He didn't swear any Ideal. He only had visions from Stormfather, which aren't part of hum being a Bondsmith (SF sent them to few other people before sending them to Dalinar). Wrong. It's a known move in fight agains a Shardbearer, it has a name, it means it was used as well in history. And Dalinar was not invested. I can provide you with gifs from HEMA, like I did once before to prove my point, but dodging a sword is very possible. Dodging a Shardblade by non invested people was presented on pages, I'm sure of it. Distance is a factor. They pierce the body, they can resist it like with allomancy to some degree. It would be possible, but they won't rip it from 100 meters away. That's what I meant by ridiculous temperatures. Ignoring the killing part, he was able to dodge the blade. But text gives me the impression that he might be invested with Stormlight. Sometimes I don't know what we're talking about here so I'm just going with the flow No. Why? Their body has the same temperature, no burns would be made as there is no temperature difference.- 456 replies

Investiture fueled Mistborn Vs. Radiant
alder24 replied to Frustration's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yes, they know, we know, but them and us still don't know how to convince spren to manifest as a Fabrial. So this technology is unavailable until they figure it out in the book. And this is Mistborn vs Radiant or Mistborn vs Fused? Like Windsprens? They show a lot of this behavior as well, especially when close to Kaladin - "find him". Like Enlightened sprens, that searched for Shallan in CR in OB and was used by Sja-anat as a speaker? Enlightened lesser sprens have a mind, are also capable of consciously fulfilling Sja-anat wishes (RoW I-2). -

If Fullborn touches them. Physical breathing isn't needed to breathe in Stormlight. Depending on how severely his brain was damaged. If he has Fullborn's fist in place of his brain, then Radiant can only wait for it to heal (if it's even possible). Yes, but they are inside a Shardplate, so Fullborn would need to rip every part of it to destroy Radiant's spheres, so not practical, he should go for a head. Brass is a good idea, but it won't reach body melting temperatures, as it could also kill Fullborn. Not to mention melting gems - in the case of Diamond, the melting point is 3550 degrees Celsius, so no, that won't work. No the difference is that in case of Breaths, you burn just a metal, without touching Breaths, in case of metalmind you use attributes stored in it to be a filter for investiture coming from Preservation. Are you denying that investiture comes from Preservation when we have WoBs and books telling us otherwise? Yeah, but a baseball is coming in a straight, predictable line, directly ahead of a player with a bat. So you can train to react to it. I can't react to it, I'm not trained. Can you react to a car going 200 km/h in a short distance and be fast enough to avoid it? I doubt it. It would be a serious challenge for a Windrunner to keep up with it. Not to mention avoid a fist going 5x-10x as fast as it should just in front of your face. There is just no way. He has allomancy, he can store and compound A-pewter strength, no muscle gain. Even in SA regular, uninvested people are able to dodge a Shardblade, catch it between their hands and strike a Shardberer. Dalinar and Kaladin for example. But he did fight Kal. Go and reread WoK ch 47. No, it takes time. That's a fair point. It would be wise for a Fullborn to take a big ball of chromium with him, or have multiple empty chromium piercings so he can burn them away with duralumin to ensure that investiture difference won't matter any more. I wish we can have an in book encounter between Radiant and chromium leecher to know how much he can leech. Larkins can leech quite a lot, quite fast. Feruchemist are immune to the negative logical effects of tapping more attributes. So I assume as long as they don't reach ridiculous temperatures, they are safe:- 456 replies

Windrunner can win against an army of hillbillies, as with reverse lashing he is never in danger, so it's until he runs out of Stormlight, and then even with his Shardblade he can still kill dozens of them. Elsecaller can move to CR and soulcast shotguns away, so he will still win against any number of hillbillies. Unless there are sprenbillies as well, then he would have a much harder time in CR. The same with Mistborn, he can push shotgun bullets back to hillbilly that shot them, as long as he has steel. Are shotguns barrels made out of steel? If yes then he can keep going and resupply by scraping steel from shotguns. Most Radiants can heal, form a Shardshield, have a Shardplate, so they would be able to kill hundreds of them or more. Feruchemist, it depends on the amount of attributes stored, but Sazed's amount of attributes in WoA, would allow him to kill tens or hundreds of them as well using bodies of dead hillbillies as a meat shield. Fullborn, A-steel alone gives him win against an army of hillbillies, and with F-steel and F-pewter and F-gold healing he can deal with dozens of armies. Elantrian caught in Elantris can kill any number of them, as he can heal a lot, and draw Aons fast. Outside of Elantris, well, he could be killed even by a single shot, as without investiture to heal, he won't heal. Forger can forge himself to become a Hillbilly and hide among them. Awakaner, hard to say. He can kill one opponent, several as well. But he would have a hard time avoiding being hit by the bullets, Awakened clothes won't stop them. But he can create lifeless, and make them shoot other hillbillies, so only Awakener is able to create an army of Lifeless-hillbillies, or Awaken dead hillbilly's clothes, and hide among them, when they do all the dirty work and kill other hillbillies. With long scarves and clothes, he can Awaken them fast and kill fist Hillbillies before they shoot, or nudge their shotguns to miss him, which is the most dangerous part of the "fight" for Awakener. The more he will kill, the stronger he’ll become. So either he can kill 0, or thousands of them. So he is the ultimate boss for hillbillies. If this is Susebron we're talking about, then he can Awaken Hillbilly's clothes from speaking distance and make it suffocate them and then retrieve Breaths so he can kill any number of them, and create thousands of Liffless Hillbillies. Sand Master on a desert can kill dozens of them, but one hit can kill him. Sand Master on a Hillbilly's hill is just dead.

Status of Taravangian's boon/curse
alder24 replied to theSurgeOfPhysics's topic in Stormlight Archive
It's a Rafo from Brandon, as expected What I think will happen is that his boon and curse will no longer affect him. First, Dalinar's boon and curse stopped "working" during OB, because that was Cultivation's plan. She wanted to help Dalinar move on, became a better person, but also prepare him for Odium's influence and make sure that when the time comes, and Odium wil show Dalinar what he had done, Dalinar will already know this, accept this and be able to resist Odium. Which is precisely what's happened. Secondly, look at Taravangian after Ascension. He Ascended while being the most passionate and empathetic in his life - this means that he wasn't very intelligent that day, which is confirmed by seeing how hard it was for him to even gather his thoughts. But after he Ascended, he not only quickly evaluated Rayse’s plans, found holes and flaws in them, saw how bad the deal was about the contest of champions and immediately found a loophole that he can use. And then he managed to outsmart Hoid. This clearly suggests to me that his boon and curse is no longer affecting him, similar like it had happened with Dalinar. He clearly looks like he was during his most intelligent days, very fast thinking, plotting and extremely dangerous. So either his boon and curse was programmed to be removed during his Ascension, or he was flooded with immense power, his soul and mind was vastly expanded and it cleansed him from his boon and curse. It might be also the case that his boon and curse was strictly connected to his body - which he doesn’t have any more. And from narrative reasons it would be far better if he didn't have his boon and curse any more. It would make him more dangerous, which is the main reason why Brandon decided to switch Rayse for Taravangian. Now about Kharbranth and his family, I don't think he would care about them that much now. He achieved his goal, he saved Kharbranth. The city is removed from the war theater, and is in no danger anymore. He is however still binded by his deal with Odium, that now he can’t break in fear of being exposed. That’s why I think he will destroy Kharbranth by accident - something will happen to Stormfather, which will cause endless rain, and will flood Roshar and Kharbranth destroying it - this will be interpreted by his power as breaking a deal Odium made with Taravangian, wounding and exposing Odium to hostile attacks. But that is just my personal theory, inspired by this Death Rattle.- 1 reply

Fullborn isn't stupid, he won't be running around in a circle waiting for a Windrunner to go down, he has f-zinc, and can calculate in his head what Radiant is doing and predict his next moves. It would be very easy for a Fullborn to realize that Radiant wants him to drain his attribute, and then he just wouldn't commit. Possible, but keep in mind that once his head is smashed, Radiant can't do anything, so Fullborn needs to just keep smashing his head, rip off his spine, his heart and wait for him to die. Yes, but leeching with duralumin would be far quicker.- 456 replies

Mraize and Aviar yes, We've never seen Iyatil use metallions in any way so we shouldn't just assume she uses them. Why would they need regular, unpowered people in their ranks? To do the dirty job. Not killings, but spying. Sending someone in the middle of nowhere just to observe one person and collect information on him for years. Guards in a safe house? There were a few of them when Veil visited them first. You need people like this who would do dirty, hard work, that isn't worthy to sacrifice their invested personal. I see no problem with it at all. It's just religion, that's it. People like to give fancy names to gods. Braize is named damnation, Ashyn is heaven. It's just a name that developed during thousands of years of religion's existence. So it's the second option, people are ignorant, they like to give more to their god than he is capable of.

Investiture fueled Mistborn Vs. Radiant
alder24 replied to Frustration's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Metal in half-shards isn't from a spren. It's just a regular metal, spren is held in physical form in a gem. Radiants still didn't figure out how to make sprens into fabrials. So they have to be done the old fashioned way. He didn't talk at all. The most he did was close his eyes. We don't know how lesser spren behave when they are fabrials, or Enlightened spren as well. It's not enough to judge if this was a higher or lesser spren. -
Fullborn V.S. 5th Ideal Windrunners
alder24 replied to Wits instant noodles's topic in Cosmere Discussion
But during compounding you don't get allomantic action, you get feruchemical attribute. It's different than the situation with Breaths. Yes, multiplied by your allomantic power, but if not stored, compress to the rate of burn time. We have no idea. Do we even know how fast regular metals like steel burn per gram? We know only that steel burns pretty fast, and yet few flakes still burn for dozens of minutes or more than an hour. Flakes are far smaller than a gram likely. 100% disagree. Even moving a few times faster, without approaching speed of sound would be far faster than a Windrruner can react to. Windrruner can move faster, but he can’t react to Fullborn moving at just 5x the speed. This is just human brain limitations.- 456 replies

He didn't claim to create humanity, he told "The one you call the Almighty, the creator of mankind.". Poeple call him that, he didn't. It's just a religion title people gave him. People call him that, he didn't. It's just religion title. The problem with Odium interfering in early Dalinar's vision is that Stromfather would know this. Odium's interventions were very brutal and straightforward. Stormfather would notice it. Mraize? Iyatil? Other members that were sometimes in proximity of Mraize when meeting Shallan? We don't have enough information about Roshar's group to know how many of the use invested arts, most seem to not.

Oh yes, good guy Taravangian, building public hospitals, taking care of homeless people, and stepping in as a new ruler of a neighboring country to stop a brutal civil war that came out of nowhere. If only we had more politicians like him... What I love about Brandon's antagonists is that they are three dimensional characters, most of them have understandable goals and motivations, but their actions are what defines them. Like Taravangian, he wants to save Roshar - like Dalinar, but their methods are drastically different. Taravangian is ready to do everything to save even part of it, including killing thousands, spreading chaos everywhere and betraying his allies. Dalinar is not. He would rather fail than stain his hands with innocent blood. So I think it's hard to find true evil villains in Cosmere. But there are some, here is my list, not list of evil characters, but bad people in Cosmere: Straff Venture - If evil in Cosmere had a name, it would certainly be Straff Venture. I mean abusing people, raping women to make his own army of metalborns or out of pettiness, beating his kids, treating everyone like tools, including his own son, whom he was prepared to kill, but when it got too hot he ran away. His motivation was to only gain more power. He is for sure a true evil villain in Cosmere. Gavilar - terrible husband, terrible father, terrible brother. He is using everyone as his tools. And his motivations? Religious zeal, and immortality. He is ready to bring the literal end of the world to Roshar just for his "gods" to come back, to make religion strong again. He was playing with forces that he didn't even understood. Sadeas - I won't call him a truly evil person. His motivations are aligned with the good of a kingdom, he helped to build it, he was ready to sacrifice his own life for his king and friend, and even during WoK/WoR he was convinced that what he was doing is for a betterment of the kingdom. However his actions were despicable, yet even Dalinar called them trully Alethi-like, so it's not that Sadeas is evil, it's that Alethi are prone to these actions. (Edit:) What made him really bad is after discovering Urithiru he was still convinced that what he was doing was right, and opposing Dalinar was the right way to go. Still he is corrupt and bad man. Rashek - with my broken heart, I have to include him. I love him as a character and a villain. He is a conflicted person. On the one hand his actions were motivated by the urge to save Scadrial from Ruin, he prepared plans and was successful in slowing Ruin's advance enough to save Scadrial, he cared for his people, even Skaa, and wanted them to survive the incoming apocalypse. Over millennia he slowly became corrupted by Ruin's whispers. On the other hand he was a power hungry, jealous and pitiful man, especially in early years. He created a terrible society, enslaved most of the population, and for 1000 years treated them inhumanly. He didn’t even care about noble warring with each other, and saw it as a useful tool. He conducted a homicide on his own kind and bred them like animals. He used hemalurgy to kill unspeakable amounts of people just to construct more useful tools. He did truly terrible things, but I wouldn’t call him purely evil. Taravangian - I mean killing innocents in back rooms of his white hospitals, sending assassin to kill every monarch on Roshar and destabilize whole world knowing that Desolation is coming, manipulating his allies and betraying them, ultimately Ascending and his very first thought was to use his new, unlimited power to "save them all". Even though he has good motivations, his actions are just despicable. Dilaf - I haven't read Elantris in a while, and I don't remember a lot now, but he was a pitiful, zealous man, motivated only by ambitions and hatred. He brought death and destruction to Arelon and Teoras. (edit2: I think that Dilaf should switch with Sadeas. Sadeas has some redeeming qualities, but Dilaf I don't think so, and Sadeas influence was a bit smaller than Dilaf, after all Dilaf wanted to kill all Elantians, Arelonians and subjugate both kingdoms under foreign, religious rule. But I had to reread Elantris to make that judgement. And it feels weird to place Sadeas above Rashek and Taravangian) Edwarn and Telsin Ladrian - they are not good people. Kidnapping women to breed them for metalborn, like it was said in AoL. Scheming an unrest among cities of the Basin. Torturing Malwish ship crew and stealing their ship. Using hemalurgy, killing dozens of people to gain powers. Bringing a foreign god that is dangerous and unpredictable, who wants to assume control over Scadrial. And sending assassins and personally trying to kill their own family member - Wax. Moash - he wasn't manipulated to commit terrible acts, he chose to do them. He chose to free himself from emotions as it was an easy way out, abandon his consciousness, escape from his guilt. He is a coward. He chose to be like that. His struggle is however understandable. Divided between his urge for revenge and guilt of failing his friends. I can understand him. But that's why I know he chose the easy way out, he didn't fight, he ran away from responsibility. He chose it. Tonk Fah - I mean sociopathic, sadistic person, enjoying torture? He has to be on this list, even if he didn't do as much as others. Bluefingers/Kelsier - I know, it's controversial, Kelsier? The bad guy? Why? Before you throw me into the Pits of Hathsin, hear me out. The more I think about Bluefingers the more he reminds me of Kelsier. A person wanting to free his people from slavery and exploitation by an upper class? Ready to kill a god and slaughter innocents on his way to achieve his goals? Being disgusted by how the ruling class behaves and what they represent? Head of a revolution, who started a terrible war? They are both very similar, their motivations, feelings, and even actions. The only difference is that we read Mistborn from Kelsier's PoV, while in Warbreaker Bluefingers was the villian. I can't condemn Bluefingers as a villain without doing the same to Kelsier. Kelsier did become a much better person thanks to Vin and he shined the most after his death. Denth/Vasher - and again, controversy, I love Vasher, but he isn't a white knight. Denth did terrible things, like betraying Vivenna, working on starting a war, killing and manipulating people. Well, and Vasher? He was one of the people that started Manywar, killed countless during that war, including Shashara, his loved one. He used Nightblood left and right to clear his way among petty thefts and sad, corrupt men that didn't deserve to die. He killed Arsteel, a friend who only wanted to reconcile him with Denth. While Vasher's intentions were certainly noble, he committed wrong acts left and right. Amaram - pretending to be a noble man, but inside he is just worse than others. Killing those who saved his life from certain death, just to gain some fancy tools, and then swiping it all under the rug. Taking up the mantle after Gavilar's death and leading his group to bring Desolations back, just so his puny gods can return and assume control over Vorin Church. To make Vorinism great again. Even though Dalinar treated him unjust in OB and he could avid handing Amaram over to Odium it was likely his decision to side with Odium, against what his gods were fighting for millenia. Aesudan - it's hard to judge her, after all she was under the influence of 3 Unmades, but letting them torture her own son is just a bridge too far. Even before all this mess, there were some serious problems with her and her rule. Jasnah didn't trust her, ardent Pia noted every flaw she had, so there is enough for me to be sure, she was not a good person, and she should never have become the queen. Roshone - we can't miss this guy. Pitiful and greedy man, he had bad influence over Elhokar which resulted in the death of an innocent elderly couple, and waged a pity "war" with Kaladin's family, even if he was right, he took it 1 step too far - drafting Tien into the army. Thankfully he changed, he became a better leader and took care of villagers in most dire times. He swallowed his pride and managed to work with both Lirin and Kaladin. Blackthorn - I mean setting an entire city ablaze, killing thousands of innocents just to set "an example", and being so blood hungry that he didn’t even notice or care for his pure wife sneaking into that city? He didn't appoint guards to protect her? Rathalas was a horrifying crime, and he couldn't face it and chose an easy way out - drinking and forgetting, which hurt his sons more. Fortunately, he did change, he took responsibility for his crimes and became a better, noble man. But I still think he should be higher on the list because of Rathalas. Whoever named Szeth-son-Neturo a Truthless! He deserved to be Nightblooded! I won't count Vessels, Fused, Heralds or Spren in this as they are more like forces of nature, ruled over by their own intent and singular desire. I wonder if I missed someone on the list. There are a lot of bad people in Cosmere, some are present more on pages, some are only mentioned here and there. It's hard to keep track of them all, when so many pale in comparison to those on top. I can still think of a few more antagonists, but I don't think they deserve to be placed on this list.

Interesting comparison. I think it can be tuned up by making a spike containing a tiny bit of power/attribute you want it to turn into. You can split spikes into multiple ones, each one of them would contain a splintered charge. So if you take an already existing Blessing, split it into dozens of tiny spikes, and then each of those tiny spikes can be melted and combined with one spike for each that contains raw investiture. Now in one spike you have a stolen power/attribute you want that spike to have, and raw investiture that has to tune up to that attribute/power. But there is still a problem of identity. Not only that attribute/power has different identity, but possibly raw investiture is taken from dozens of different people (spiking one person out of raw investiture makes a spike only 5% Invested), so that investiture is split into dozens of separate parts, each with different identity. So now you have to find a way to get rid of that identity problem fully. With raw investiture, you can give them aluminum medallions and force them to store in it, so they would be with no identity. With attributes/powers, you can also do similar, make them store identity, before spiking them. But with already existing spikes, like Blessings, Koloss spikes or even Inquisitors spikes, you can't do that, as those already have identity in them. But it is likely that if you make raw investiture with no identity, it can still tune up with attributes/powers that have identity. And looking at TLM chapter when they are talking about it I find this: They already managed to do it, but just for a short time. That's interesting.

Could you please edit out in the title "Tarav" part? There are people here on the forum who just started their journey with Stormlight Archive, and it would be nice if they could avoid spoilers in titles about such drastic events. And I have no doubts Taravangian would never do that. He's too smart for that. Remember his discussion with Dalinar about 3 people accused of committing a crime, which only 1 of them committed? Dalinar said he would free them all, Taravangian said they all have to be executed (not even imprisoned). This is who Taravangian really is. His main goal as a person is to save people. Now he has the power to do so. And while Dalinar as Odium would likely withdraw from Roshar or even self-splinter like you say, Taravangian is going to use all of his powers to "save them all". His way of saving. Leaving behind corpses. RoW ch 114 Does this sound to you like someone who is ready to sacrifice himself to save everyone?

I was using your equation Runner and end up with ~1370 years (11 969 333,49 hours (which is 43*10^9 seconds) of 100% speed), and I don't know where I could make a mistake. But that's still faaaaar less than 10^21 seconds which is 10 trillion years. That's just impossible. The thing is, Marasi only moved her hand to grab a vial, and with Mach 1 speed it would take her just a fraction of a second to make that move. not 2 seconds. So the required amount of speed stored is far less than 2 seconds. After the vial grab, she dialed it down to more reasonable, but still very fast speeds. I agree, Fullborn with F-steel speed would win, but with leeching there is a problem, he can't simply grab a Radiant, as Radiant has a Shardplate which would protect him from being leeched. So first, Fullborn needs to smash his plate, which with speed and strength he has is an easy task. Atium is a no no. That's just too powerful, and there is no Atium in era 2.- 456 replies

Fullborn V.S. 5th Ideal Windrunners
alder24 replied to Wits instant noodles's topic in Cosmere Discussion
No. never. It would never be like that. Tapping is always better. There is a fixed amount of investiture that can be stored in 1g, Lets say 50% speed per 1h. Burning that gram would give you 10h, and it would take 1 minute. If you can't store it anywhere, it has to be compressed to that 1 min, so it would give you like 500% speed for 1 min without diminishing returns, with them like 300%. So you would only be 3x faster while burning metalmind without storing it. That's it. You can't make it greater. Of course numbers are just for example. I'm saying the amount of investiture in it has no bearing on burn rate. It's constant depending only on type of metal. Explained on the previous page. Yes, it's the same rate, no matter how full it is. The "fullness" of metalmind only determines how much of it you burn and get Feruchemical charge, and rest would be burnt like a normal Allomantic metal. Because there is a fixed density of investiture when metalmind is burnt. Every burnt gram has the same amount of investiture in it. And power received is the same for every gram. yes, 100 seconds. You can't fit 100 seconds of 50% in the same space that fits 10s of 50%. You need 10x more space for it. 50% isn't changed by compounding, only time is. It's the same. No, they wouldn't, because you can only burn so much metalmind per second and get so much power per second. Those values are always the same, no matter how full a metalmind is. You would just get a few times faster but won't be even close to mach 1. Tapping them just makes so much more sense. I make a math on the previous page on that. What is MAG? YES! That is what give you attribute. Regular Mistborn would get far less attribute from compounding than Lerasium Mistborn. And Lerasium Mistborn would get less than Lerasium Savant Mistborn. This is what determines the amount of attribute received by compounding. It's not 10x we just assume for simplicity of calculation that it's 10x. The burn rate is the same, but the power received by each Mistborn changes. Elend didn't burn metal faster, he just got more power from them. Speed was the same for both Elend, Vin, Kelsier, Inquisitor. I'm not sure I understand this fully, but I think that's what I've been saying. When metalmind isn't burnt, the investiture is evenly distributed, when it is burnt, it gets pulled inside to the maximum investiture density, and only the invested part of metalmind is burnt when compounding, thus burn rate is the same, and power received is also the same. It can't get negative, you always gain more than it was in them. And yes, the Bands burnt would give the same benefits as any other metalmind, at least in terms per second. And yes, we are walking in circles, but you're starting to get what I'm talking about. This is of course my explanation. We don't have canon detailed mechanics of compounding yet.- 456 replies

Investiture fueled Mistborn Vs. Radiant
alder24 replied to Frustration's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yeah, but Radiant won't bring Sibling with him to fight a Mistborn. They wouldn't fit in his pocket
