Tallet was well aware of the Herald he was named after. Most people that he knew growing up were named after Jezrien or Kalak; his was a much more unique name. When he asked his father if he was named after any relatives, the answer was a simple denial, followed by dinner in awkward silence. It wasn't because of any events in his parents' lives, either; they had simply decided on the name for no specific reason. At the time he was born, his parents hadn't thought that the meaning of a name had any importance, so they "went with what sounded good." They applied that philosophy to the raising of their family; decisions of any kind were made with patience and deliberation, but with no particular reasoning behind them. He had inherited his parents' attitude in his employment, going by whim applied with some measure of diligence. He became a sphere-maker, melting glass and forming it around small gemstones so they would be protected against wear and tear. It paid well enough that Tallet never thought about pocketing any spheres, but it was certainly monotonous. While working, he would think about his purpose. Not his Calling; that was glasswork, which he admittedly did not spend much time doing other than in sphere-making. Tallet's purpose, in his eyes, was to try and emulate his namesake. Taln was called the Bearer of Agonies, among more understandable titles. Tallat was especially curious about this title; after all, the Heralds had suffered equally grave wounds in their battles against the Voidbringers. During the Desolations, they suffered the privations of their armies and people equally, or so he had gathered from Vorin teachings. What made Taln stand apart from the rest of them? Once, when he had asked for the reasoning behind this, he was told that "Talenelat'Elin volunteered for the most deadly of battles, and sacrificed himself first before the other Heralds. After the Final Desolation, he was last to join them in the Tranquiline Halls. They had left him behind briefly, because they trusted him to win a battle that turned out to take several days." After hearing this, he was then given an hours-long treatise on the attributes and accomplishments of the other Heralds, circling back at the end to the Final Desolation. He resolved to go to the Order of Talenelat for answers that wouldn't be drowned out by descriptions of other Heralds. He enjoyed the teachings of the order, and learned far more about Taln than he thought would be possible. That earlier treatise about the other Heralds was a rockbud on the chull that was Herald knowledge. As the years went on, he listend to books that discussed Taln or his Order of the Knights Radiant; he did not have access to all of them, but occasionally the chance would arise to travel to Kholinar to visit the larger libraries. When news came of Dalinar Kholin refounding the Knights Radiant, Tallat was dumbstruck. He had heard rumors of the Kholin highprince being erratic at times, but he hoped this was not one of those times. He was of the opinion that the Radiants abandoned, rather than betrayed, humanity. If they were returning, then Tallat might get to join their number. Or, at the very least, he could witness them in temples the Order of Talenelat, for surely they would spend time receiving training from the ardents. In only a year, Alethkar was occupied and he had yet to see a Stoneward. From hearsay, a Radiant could be any ordinary person, but they needed to bond a spren beforehand. Tallat hoped that he would get to hear of someone doing so, but the occupying force kept him from hearing anything from the outside. To make matters worse, he was removed from sphere-making and relegated to pottery, something he had no expertise in. When he told this to his immediate superiors, they replied that the resident potter had died or fled, and that glassmaking was the closest skill that could be found among the populace. With no rebuttal for that, Tallet got to work and hoped for Radiants to show up. Day after day, week after week, with no end in sight.

The character list looks great; short and to the point. Each character is as fleshed-out as they can be from how short their character descriptions are, and I would keep the descriptions at that length. I have no feedback the rest of the post; if you post more I'd love to read it!

Awesome game. I stopped following it soon after I was dead; in hindsight I probably should have helped with a couple hammers but I'm not going through a thread this long if I have anything to say about it. I'm busy enough as it is. Well done, everyone! (Happy dance for the villagers)

I'm just checking in for the cycle. As before I have no extra information to offer, but for those who have had trouble keeping up on the thread I'll just reiterate: I trolled Aman N1, forgot to Troll N2, and got exed D3. I was a Village Troll. Also I'm fairly busy for the next few days so my next posts will be similarly short until I can find enough time to very lightly skim and summarize the thread, and thus be able to offer any of my own conclusions. ------------- Walin looked at the screen. Then, he remembered that the built-in camera was up above the screen. Embarrassing. After that he checked that the webcam was on, the mic was on and functional, and that his VPN was turned off. Finally, he looked just above the screen and said "hold on, this whole operation was your idea." He then facepalmed. Some people might run scripts to get into his computer at any moment, but those who really wanted to save time would just scrub through his files. So, he fired up OBS Studio, started recording, said the line again, finished recording, exported through VLC media player, and covered his desktop with the same video file. There. That was it. Now to go leave his laptop unattended for several hours. ------------- I award myself 0.5 XP.

Oh yeah I was village. I'm fine with this outcome, though. I was looking forward to the cat video and the oncoming scarring that would result. It would definitely turn back anyone who dared to replace an ordinary SE player. Me, however? This kind of video is only my Internet sustenance. It brings this video to mind: ---- Walin got removed. Once again, presumably some things happened but I did not write them down. Good day to you. ---- I award myself 0 XP.

Welp, I don't have enough time today to do more than lightly skim the past few days of the thread. From what I remember of my last quick skim, I was asked who I Trolled. Well, I forgot to do it on N2, but I trolled Aman N1--and iirc he became immune to Trolling for the next cycle (which is in the role description of Trolls, and would have worked that way if he was Trolling himself), or something? I won't make any promises about reading and analyzing through the cycles I missed; I probably will post only this time during the cycle and get back online in about 10 hours from now, so after rollover. Welp. I looked through all my pings; sorry, @Amanuensis. I never Trolled Bookwyrm. I can Troll Wiz N3 or Bookwyrm this time, if you want. (Please tag or quote me in your reply in case I can't scroll through the thread) No votes on the incumbent or the unincumbents, as I haven't heard their platforms yet. GL to Steel in the finals of D3! ---------- Walin may have done something interesting. He also may have not. What, you were expecting me to pay attention and write it down for your own amusement? Oh, you were? Wait...oh, yeah, I said I would do that. My bad. Maybe next time. ---------- I award myself 0.1 XP

PHEW! I forgot to check and join in the thread for about a day, and I didn't die. In actuality, I've been mildly afraid that I'd get exed or NK'ed ever since the almost-exe on D1. Once I saw how few votes I got D2, though, I really should have entered the thread again. Anyway, I'm going to go be inactive again. There's a lot of thread to look over right now, and I don't have the time just yet. --------- Walin lamented his choices that had led him to this moment. Namely, being the kind of person who spends 5 hours on the Internet instead of 2 hours on the Shard. --------- I deduct from myself 2 XP.

Welp I forgot to post yesterday. Fullclaim before the Day gets out: I’m a village Troll. I just wanted to do a little trollin’ by saying I was only related to the Trolling mechanic (and also hold my claim until later). Anyway I’ll probably not be active until after the cycle ends. ————— Walin sat down and looked at the thread. 25 pages, on mobile. He really shouldn’t have picked now to do a Cradle reread. ————— I award myself 0.5 XP.

I think the main two targets for Trolling are Aman and Wiz, if I recall D1 right. I'll continue to soft-claim Troll, but actually revealing my role and alignment will probably wait until later. For now, I'll just say: Trolls, troll either Aman, Wiz, or Novel, if you feel like it. (Striker, was your other role Lynchpin? It allows you to "lock in" the votes at a given point during the Day? I'm not aware of this role ever existing before, but it sounds the most related to Lynchbait in both naming scheme and theme.) Uh, I've got nothing else to say, and I'm signing off for the night. I don't suspect that I'll be online to post tomorrow, so this will be my last in-thread post for the forseeable future. ------ Walin decided to head to bed early. However, like all reasonable decisions that Walin made, he quickly backtracked on it and decided to go play video games for a while. Perhaps until he got tired, perhaps until he saw the morning light. Who was to guess? Certainly him, though his guesses wouldn't be the most accurate. He faintly hoped to retain his account until the next day, but he knew it was up in the air at this point. If someone were to become suspicious of him, he would have no way of defending himself. For, you see, he was not inclined to log back on. And perhaps more importantly, the entire Northwestern side of the US lost Internet connection for the period of about five hours while he was asleep. This also somehow erased his cookies and saved passwords, which he would have to spend a considerable amount of time recovering. ------- I award myself 2 XP.

Welp, here's my thought process for my last post, and my subsequent thought process now: As for your questions, Matrim -- 1, I like having fewer votes so I try to reduce them by explaining myself; 2, you kept the vote after (mostly) retracting your reasoning for it, and it was a vote on me (which I'll always try to rebut, at least in this game); 3, IDK, so I can cross it off my "post task-list" w/o putting forth significant effort. And Fadran, if it was unclear that was unconditional. If it was clear, and you want me to make it conditional, uh...if it snows in your local region before turnover, please remove your vote. I think Wiz expressed concern over my desire for votes. It was mostly for fun, a little for playing in-character with my characterization (which is me, and I would do something like this), and most importantly: because I didn't think it would lead to a train. I'm not really scared that it will lead to a train now, either, but if it does I guess I've dug my own grave. This is my actual last post for the cycle, probably, and even though I should vote I think I won't. I can't read on anyone and I trust everyone else's ability to gut-read more accurately than me by the time the cycle comes close to ending. Conditional order for the last time: if you feel tired and have the time to rest/go to bed, do so. --------------- Walin did something rather ordinary, and patted himself on the back for being clever. It was a good day to hunt elims. -------------- I award myself 0 XP.

Striker, I can confirm that there is at least one Troll in this game. Quite a lot, from what I gathered. I skimmed the last 8 pages as fast as I reasonably could, and it took me 10 minutes. I only could retain a couple points from all that; there's unfortunately too much for me to sum up accurately. Maybe you'll be able to leverage your place as not-on-the-top-anymore for some information. I'll be gone the entirety of tomorrow, and Archer I remove my vote on you. It was mostly a poke vote (I think; I don't remember my motivations for my first post but I believe it was a mixture of "I've got to vote someone and I have no idea who, so I'll pick someone based on their player-list description" and "I should poke vote someone to provoke discussion") and served its sentence. Sart expressed doubt about the Referee role that Amanuensis has; I don't know if it actually exists either, but I know there was at least one true statement in his claim post. I happen to have a role related to the Trolls. If I can get things in place, I'll see if I can get Aman Trolled to verify his claim. As for the World Cup roles, I don't have or suspect anyone of having those roles. Striker voted for me at one point but then self-voted. I think he's either got Jester or is playing by tradition. Matrim's Dice voted for me as a prod/poke vote, and I would like to offer my rebuttal: I'm not an elim (yes, that is my full rebuttal). I'm not that very good at arguing my case, but I hope that the amount of words in this post is sufficient enough to give you a bit better of a read. I'm also quite aware that Striker has a big lead on the rest of us, so I'm probably safe this round, but if it comes down to a five-way tie I don't want to get voted to the top in the last few hours of the cycle. Fadran, thanks for the vote. Uh, if you don't mind I would like an even bigger safety margin, acheived on account of your removal of your vote on me. My final conditional order/request for today goes out to Striker, which is: if I get 3 total votes at any point, invent a roleclaim for me (or speculate on my role). Please and thank you. --------------------------------------- Walin got back to his computer after a long day of being on the computer. He was hoping to see that there would be a thread he could sift through for clues, and he got his wish. More accurately, he bit off more than he could chew, and now struggled to organize the absolute payday of discussion to sort. Walin knew how the quicksort algorithm worked, but he had never created a priority queue (he sluffed that project) or even a balanced binary tree. So he was unequipped to truly sort and sift through this information systematically. He would have to do this heuristically, or as they say, "by [his] gut." He downloaded and compressed the entire discussion; that didn't require any sorting. Next time he was on the 17th Shard server, he knew, there would be twice this much information to go through. Walin sighed. Perhaps he should rethink how seriously he was going to take this. Could the other Sharders see through the impostors' disguises more easily than he could? ---- I award myself 5 roleplay XP.

Cough. After rereading my post I realize that, while I thought I was making a disclaimer (i.e. "I should not, and thus will not (if not allowed), foist the responsibility for my actions on the GM's and others"), I was just saying "oh yeah I'll just foist responsibility on others. Ciao" like a responsibility foister. Anyway, duly noted and I will not make conditional orders. To the GM's, that is. Note: "Foist" is a fun word to say. --------------- Walin thought he should get something productive done at the end of the day. Thus, after having RP'ed once and forgetting to attempt to assign himself XP, he retired from the hunt before he forgot to do anything else. He would return soon, probably.

I'll vote on Archer for now, as PM spidering sounds like a recipe for constructing a botnet. Whether or not that is Archer's intention or not remains to be seen... In any case, I may not be online more than once before the Day is over. In that case, I ready an action to drop my vote on Archer if there is a tie 20 hours before turnover (and in addition to readying an action, I will actually ask Steel to remind me irl to do so, because "readied actions" without posting on my own time is just another word for "foist responsibility onto others to write my action down for me"). ------------------ Walin opened his computer. Yes, he had heard of these imposters taking over the--souls? bodies? accounts?--of his fellow SE members. While he had not spent much time on Sanderson Elimination in years, he knew he had an existing duty to save the others when they were in trouble. So he joined the investigation. On one hand, he only had the attention span to skim the analysis of others; he lacked the skill to analyze on his own or even to summarize the analysis of others. On the other hand, this skill had not rusted from disuse--and now he had newer cards to play than he had in the past. He knew how to drop large paragraphs into the thread, participate in the thread somewhat more often; how to propose a solution for Laplace's equation in an annular region. Well, on that last one he was perhaps a little rusty. But Walin cracked his knuckles in anticipation anyway, for he was on the hunt. And he was ready to cooperate with other, more skilled hunters, which was probably the more important part.

Ooh, multivoting sounds like a fun mechanic. If it exists, that is. I'll vote Stick for now, but also Kasimir. I don't know if certain colors are more valid than others, but varying seems like the way to go for now. My "great idea" was to award myself roleplay XP for longer or more detailed RP posts, which I would then use in exchange for extra PM's, changing my role, or even getting to run a sock puppet halfway through the game. Of course, if this were truly a mechanic, then by publicly making use of it I would then become vulnerable to everyone else who could get way more out of it. Who knows, maybe roleplaying you exe-ing someone makes them die even if you don't have an exe role. Speculation about the true rules of the game will continue here at Walin Incorportated. This quarter cycle, we've just remembered the Turing test's existence. In the case of the game, or rather, investigation, that will shortly begin, we posit that there is a Turing test mechanic in which players must prove (by their own arguments) they are not impostors. After further review, we then realized that this is just called "lying" and has been the focus of almost every game since the beginning of SE. Further speculation will commence at a later time, when we've remembered how to have ideas.

I have an idea for how to game the system (or in an SE game as wild as this, discover the system, which action I shall call “system(ing) the game”), but because so much has been PAFO’ed already I fear I’ll just give away my trade secrets for the use of others. And “trade secrets” means “doofus secrets,” as I suspect this has less than 10% of a chance of netting any benefit. Anyway, on an unrelated note, do votes from the signup thread actually have an effect on the game? And are things mentioned in-thread here added as mechanics, or added to a rotating-by-cycle list of mechanics?

I'll join as Walin, the consistently befuddled and absent SE'er. Much like most of my games, I'll make promises to RP and analyze that I will fail to keep up on. Feel free to C1 or C2 me; just signing up is fun enough. Since Steel and I are roommates, I've been exposed more to SE than I would be otherwise, since I spend most of my 17th Shard - related time on Discord, lurking. Because of this, I have been sufficiently enticed to join the game. (And it's not because he knows where I sleep, and said he would do a Fortnite emote on my grave if I didn't join. No sir. And Steel considering that you're reading this, this disqualifies you from doing the Turk-Poison (default dance) or Orange Justice within 5 meters of me until my character dies) I will try to make my posts worth reading, but as my track record shows, my word means little. Most likely outcome is that my posts won't be an active waste of time, but there will be precious few of them.

Wow, that was fun for the 1 cycle I got to stay alive. Glad to see the Villagers won. Wait, the Elims. Well played, everyone! After briefly reading the dead doc's ending cycles, I concluded that we played well for the information available to us. Go Village! Elims did super well and the hammer->openwolfing was hilarious. My only complaint was that I wasn't an Elim and thus get to take part in the spoils, but alas. I was merely a medallion-Mistborn.

Welp, I've just finished reading D1 and that was pretty long. Most of it was NAI as far as I can tell, but to be honest everything is usually either NAI to me or is based on faulty logic that I myself pick apart. It's why I generally end up following trains. Anyway, just posting to avoid the inactivity filter. Also, some RP despite not having read through any of the other cycles before D5. I'll pick up from where Fifth left off, which is the signup thread Also, welcome @xinoehp512, fellow pinch-hitter! ------------------------------- Christel walked tensely through the corridor. Being old as she was, she would have to rely on her wits and skills more than her strength when she entered an altercation. With the Mistborn medallions, technically she should be able to hold her own against any of the mutineers, in the event that one of them jumped her. Christel had seen combat several times before, and with her nearsightedness she had always compensated her poor markmanship with a greater emphasis in hand-to-hand proficiency. But that was assuming she had a vial of pewter to down, which she did not. And given the state of the bodies of others who had died, these rebels had used Steelpushing for their initial approach, weakening their targets before going in for the kill. There was no way to stop that. However, there was still much within Christel's control--and the thought reminded her that, despite facing near-certain (well, maybe 50/50) chances of death, there were always things to be glad about. She was ready for whatever came next. She would take her remaining vials of metal and use them at the soonest opportune moment, giving her hopes a reasonable chance to succeed. At the end of the day, Christel would be satisfied with death if she met it with the might of her optimistic will.

Welp, I was expecting to be able to catch up on the last few cycles but all I was able to get done for now was read through my GM PM and this cycle. I happen to have 2 Brass vials, but alas. I haven't read very thoroughly and it seems like there's some suspicion on Araris with a defense, some suspicion on Biplet and a post mentioning activity, and suspicion on Karatheon with a rebuttal to one reason why. I'll go for the latest reads as for which posts to give the most weight to in my vote--so that makes Araris I have nothing to add right now, but I'll try getting through the pages of cycles before the end of the next Day turn, whenever that is. Araris, with a Brass tap to push the edge over. Sorry man, I would be more thorough in my analysis if I had the foresight (and the time) to make the time to do so.

Mid-Range Game 55: Sudden but Inevitable Betrayal
Walin replied to Elandera's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Wow, that was a good game. I wish I had been more active. I only skimmed each cycle, so I didn't remember how Archer had quite finagled his way out of a hard elim read, but for the most part I accepted it. Then, in the last cycle, I was reading Matrim's Dice posts and thinking "now that's a villager if I ever saw one." And then sending replies to the two PM's I had gotten multiple cycles ago, minutes before turnover. Always riding the edge of timing on that. So, it's clear that I was Mechanic. What surprised me is that I was the one to find the pieces of the Secret, both times. After the second piece, I was surprised no one else had found one, and it also indicated that we wouldn't get all four in time--or really, that it was super unlikely. Speaking of being the Mechanic, I was super grateful to have a role that only allowed me to use an action once every other turn. Being mostly inactive as I am, it's plausible this was a deliberate choice in the distribution. Well played, everyone! I never got close to figuring out the elims (though I had suspected Archer, I never really got to a real "I think this is an elim," I was only at "if we vote someone, this is a solid choice for my vote"), and especially not anyone of the Alliance. Last of all, thanks Elandera for GMing and Araris for IMing!- 268 replies

Mid-Range Game 55: Sudden but Inevitable Betrayal
Walin replied to Elandera's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Alright, hopping back in for the round. Looks like I'm on the chopping block, and now I'm regretting voting for Archer last round. I could have sworn that a tied vote meant a double execution, but alas, I read wrong. Has anyone claimed being the ones to find the pieces of the Secret of Miranda? If not, I'll be happy to come forward and claim which cycles I found pieces for, as well as roleclaim, to avoid getting killed. In the meantime, I'll vote for Tiea to stay alive for the round. Sorry if you're village, Tiea.- 268 replies

Mid-Range Game 55: Sudden but Inevitable Betrayal
Walin replied to Elandera's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Hey guys, sorry about being inactive. Time got away from me. I’ll be more active next cycle if I haven’t been killed by then. It looks like Illwei’s got the most votes right now, though if we get this wrong then there’ll be 5 of us, and likely with 3 Reavers. On the other hand, if we get a tie and two executions, there will be 4 remaining, and maybe one Reaver will be dead (assuming at least one of either Archer or Illwei is a Reaver.) I’m going the tie route since 4-2 is better than 5-3. Archer- 268 replies

Mid-Range Game 55: Sudden but Inevitable Betrayal
Walin replied to Elandera's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Alright, time to hop into the thread. Sorry for my absence; it was unintentional. Now, time for some analysis! I'm partly joking, because I don't really know how to analyze, or how to make reads. So as of now, pretty much everyone is at the default 70% village-ness in my mind. I'll review the last cycle, though, see if I come up with anything to add to everyone's individual analyses. ___________________ Nonto woke up. He didn't quite remember laying down inside a cargo hold, but he did remember staying awake for nearly 40 hours working on that tricky component. Had he fixed it yet? If he hadn't, then why...he rolled over, and got up. He would go through his morning routine first, then answer all these questions. After all of that, he would be clearheaded enough to really do some thinking. Looking back into the recent past, Nonto tried to retrace his steps. ...It appeared the repair required a couple tools that Nonto didn't have. He'd have to ask for it from someone else, and considering the time, they probably weren't awake. He'd already been up 40 hours, and the component wasn't on a ticking clock. Besides, he really started to lose focus after about hour 22, so staying up was more an exercise in procrastination and optimistic delusion about his capabilities. He'd get some sleep, then go borrow some tools. Then after that, he'd finally be done with all the backed-up work for the week, and he could return to his normal "waiting for something to break" routine. Or rather...wait, there was something else going on in the ship. Some discussions of some kind. He'd have to go ask someone to give him the full run-down; maybe it was important.- 268 replies

It's been...a long time since I've played a game, and I haven't seen Firefly, but this sounds like fun. I've gotten better at setting priorities, or so I tell myself, anyway. I'll sign up as Nonto Wheran, a maintenance technician who occasionally downloads ship schematics to browse through in his free time. (Until I watch the show/movie, in which case I might change his name and character development to fit the setting and environment better) Thanks for putting up a game at this time of year when we (presumably) all have a bit more time!- 268 replies
