Maybe Hoid took him after failing to become Elantrian.

I think it was just to keep feruchemist genes out of the population generally. He may have been fearful of Fullborn but he needn't have been. He just generally removed threats. He allowed alomancy but controlled it strictly and had his most loyal servants hunt down any children that got away. With the terrismen, he castrated them. I think he kept alomancy around because it was much more controllable, he knew exactly how many beads there were and could control the genes in the population. With feruchemists, control would have been impossible as there were already so many of them. Hence turning his friends into Kandra and turning the rest into mistwraiths. He was also, I should remind everyone, a paranoid, sociopathic chull-face. He saved the world, but doesn't stop him being a total git.

Aslydin- the mysterious worldhopping Terriswoman?
Extesian replied to Pinnacle-Ferring's topic in Mistborn
@Lord Maelstrom I like your thinking and I agree that there's no confirmation the worldhopping terriswoman is Aslydin, there could be more than one. But your question about whether she's even originally terris intrigued me. Luckily I found confirmation she is, in the annotations -
This was actually the topic of one of my first threads. Yeah they can. Umm guessing a Shard can actually rematerialize their body?

Ah I'd forgotten about that one. Yeah it is good. I don't believe so though, because he's confirmed that the Voice that calls back Lightsong is Endowment. You can argue we haven't 'seen' that Shard but it's a stretch, that's more than just influence. The other reason is the wording. The 'if' could refer to the fact that he may Gabe taken up a Shard if it was Endowment, but because it wasn't, he didn't. I can't rule it out though, it's a good connection.

Ardjet it's a reasonable point, but it also doesn't say the color and given we've been told the branch is from Yolen, fain life is a pretty good bet. On my silly Mraize is a dragon theory, I should also note that Peter has said that it's "pretty clear in the book that Mraize is from Thaylenah", and Brandon has referred to Mraize visiting a few other planets heavily supervised by his babsk. They don't exactly rule it out, but it is more fun. But it is something I've been on the lookout for, someone who could be a dragon. The big point is that the collection is completely extraordinary, it (probably) includes sand from Taldain, which has been inaccessible for a long time. It has an artefact from Yolen, which has definitely been 'inaccessible' for a long time. The others are likely to be hemalurgic spikes (hairpins), hair from a descendent of the first Returned (the royal family), a Tear of Edgli flower, an Aether (indeed this is commonly viewed to be the reason that we've been told aethers are canon). The silver knife I assume is related to Threnody and I've wondered if it's the one that Nazh gave Kelsier. Given how extraordinary the collection is, if Mraize isn't a stormin' dragon, the collection must have been at least gathered by someone incredibly powerful or incredibly old (likely the latter). I've wondered about a Herald. Or someone influenced by a player like Kelsier. Or a collection of someone like Khriss that has been stolen. But irrespective of how useful it is, it shows that whoever has collected it is a serious Cosmere-player.

Simply because we know she's not. She was born in Silverlight. The babsk thing could just be a ruse. I don't seriously think he's a dragon but he COULD be. She can't.

Yeah its pretty intriguing. Here's an idea. Mraize is a Yolish dragon. Joking/not joking

I'd never seen it before today Pagerunner, it's beautiful. Jan 2015. So could be Ambition? But otherwise must be one we still haven't seen, if I'm remembering dates correctly. http://theoryland.com/intvmain.php?i=1123

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm no. But worth asking.

Welcome to the Shard!! Interesting theorizing, but I'll interject with a brief point - the Recreance was definitely long, long after the breaking of the Oathpact. There is doubt about exactly how long ago, but it's unquestionable more than a few hundred but definitely way less than 4000, long after the breaking of the Oathpact. Tanavast even has memories of the Recreance so it really was a long time after the Heralds walked out. Another thing to note is there were only 2 orders involved with that flashback, but we know that 9 orders (all but 1) abandoned their oaths. Speculation is that it's the Skybreakers that didn't but I don't think that's established. Either way though, if 9 orders did it it may be hard to draw a connection between which Shard the orders are involved with, and that leading to oathbreaking. I hope that helps! Edit - thanks @Calderis for pointing out there are NOT 12 KR orders so newb

There are semi-conflicting WoBs on this. I believe the second one holds. You don't need to bond an Honorblade to use it. But you can and I think you need to if you want to dismiss it (hide it). Unless someone has seen something different? Otherwise yeah I agree. Adolin would be a good option. Dude would be so ninja. But what about Dalinar himself? He's a radiant without a Shard but perhaps an Honorblade wouldn't count as its not a dead spren and it doesn't limit the Stormfather

Hmm after Chaos' rad response (you'll always be a celebrity to me @Chaos) we've gone a bit quiet with votes. The Sharders I'm probably the most curious about now are @Pagerunner, @Argent, @Oversleep, @Spoolofwhool and @Yata. Mainly because their Cosmere knowledge is great but they also post a lot. I'll go Pagerunner for this round. For the fact he has about 50 more posts than me and has contributed about 15,000 times as much awesomeness to this site

So First of the Sun is a non-Shardworld. Brandon's described it as having 'natural' magic as all planets were originally (by Adonalsium, or earlier) created with some investiture present. So really, it's the magic of Adonalsium rather than a particular Shard. You can probably say all magic in the Cosmere is due to Adonalsium, either himself or one of the Shards, but yeah I'd say that wiki is out of date (unless anyone has a creative way to interpret it). Note we also see the same thing with Roshar. It's invested now, but spren and the ability for people and animals to interact with them magically were around from before the Shattering.

Application of Fabrial-Tech in a more modern era.
Extesian replied to Calderis's topic in Stormlight Archive
Farming would be perfect, but I suspect the lifecycles of Chasmfiends, Lanceryn and others is far too long for Roshar's immediate needs. -
For sure, I ALWAYS think magically but you're quite right, a love of one form of art should give rise to others. And we also have an awesome musician in Hoid. If he gets that flute back...

I would argue the Listeners are the ultimate musicians. Everything they say, they say to an appropriate rhythm. Sure they may not use notes but speaking to rhythm is still music. Hip hop, Parshendi-style. Just a note about Nalthis. I believe art is magical because of the use of color and its unknown importance there. I don't believe music will be the same. But that's just speculation.

The Reason there are no Awakening Savants.
Extesian replied to Calderis's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yeah this makes sense to me. A healing compounder’s physical body is entirely temporary, it is constantly being destroyed and restored to match their spiritweb, as filtered by their cognitive aspect. If Miles keeps blowing himself up he’d get so used to the pain that he would kind of stop feeling it. He would then start to think of himself as not feeling pain. That creates a feedback-loop, where each time he doesn’t feel pain, his cognitive aspect becomes more certain that he actually doesn’t feel pain, and then when his body is rebuilt it would eventually get rebuilt without pain receptor because that’s the way he seems himself. I agree Calderis that it’s either extremely hard or impossible for your cognitive aspect to give you something that was never part of your spiritweb. But Connects is right, this is your cognitive aspect refusing to heal part of your physical body to match your spiritweb. I should note that this is distinct from being a savant. It’s particular to healing magic of course and goes hand-in-hand with being a healing savant, but I don’t think it’s a part of it. It’s an outcome of the way healing works in the Cosmere I think, rather than a direct outcome of your spiritweb changing from. -
Application of Fabrial-Tech in a more modern era.
Extesian replied to Calderis's topic in Stormlight Archive
From this WoB from the weekend's Sydney signing, the cognitive aspect of the gem matters. So I don't think glass could do it. That said that is talking in the context of soulcasting, where the particular gem matters, but I think it holds. -
The Reason there are no Awakening Savants.
Extesian replied to Calderis's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I'll just note that compounding isn't an end - neutral system. It's end-positive but your spiritweb hijacks the output from an end-neutral system. But the point is that you're not accessing healing from an end-neutral flow, ie your own internal investiture. You're accessing investiture from an external source. -
Does the Everstorm reach indoor parshmen?
Extesian replied to Necessary Eagle's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think, like with normal stormlight, it's just thickness - dependent. WoBs below are both from the leipzig signing -
Eh it was a lazy post from a brief thought yeah you're right Yata, thanks.i was thinking in the sense that he'd be guaranteed Cognitive Shadow status if he does die but that kind of adds nothing. Let's pretend I didn't say it

Soulcasting. We know it requires investiture. We’ve seen it requiring ‘convincing’ or forcing the object to change. We know Shallan had to plead with Stick to change. We know that Jasnah ordered ropes to change (in a not-100% canon scene set between WoR and Oathbringer). We know that Jasnah managed to soulcast three human beings. So, my theory is very simple, it’s already my head-canon, I just want people to pick it apart and, if there’s no evidence against, perhaps it will add to the running theories until it’s affirmed or dismantled in Oathbringer. Soulcasting always requires some investiture to actually effect the change. Even if something wants to change, without investiture to facilitate that change, no change can occur. If you have ‘unlimited’ investiture (basically way more than you need to just effect the change) you can force the change. I find it inconceivable that Jasnah changed 3 thugs by convincing them. I think she simply had enough investiture to force the issue. If you have limited investiture, only enough to make the change, that is when you must convince the object it wants to change. Now within that there could obviously be subtleties. If you’re an incredibly skilled soulcaster, or a savant, I’m sure you can force changes with less. I’m sure that no matter how skilled you are you can never soulcast without investiture. But I think it’s a balance. You can either convince the cognitive aspect to change and give it just enough investiture for that change to rewrite the spiritweb. Or you can force that change yourself with enough investiture, kind of like soulstamping. Basically, extra investiture replaces persuasion. Thoughts? Edit - I checked amounts of investiture for different soulcasting incidents. With Jasnah changing the thugs, she cracked the smokestone and she dimmed the diamond. On a soulcaster with "some of the largest gems that Shallan had ever seen on one. Though Jasnah had used the smokestone already to transform the wall, so this must have already been a new one. And when she transforms the ropes in the scene between the books (non-canon) she only has a few gemstones worth, "so little". The ropes briefly resist, but she Jedi-ninja wills it. Shallan changing the goblet to blood involved a visit to shadesmar via a small truth, and then the goblet says "You want me to change? I've been as I am for a great long time. I sleep so much. I will change. Give me what you have". I assume the stormlight she had available was from the soulcaster in her pocket, so a decent amount, but note that here there is no persuasion, the goblet basically offers to change in exchange for what she has. Shallan trying to change Stick had very very little, and he paused when she offered him all she had, but he decided against non-stickery. When she transforms the ship, she has multiple spheres burning brightly that make her feel 'afire' when she breathes them in. Pattern says he will 'intercede', she enters Shadesmar, says she needs another truth and Pattern says "you have given enough". It takes a lot of persuasion, but a storming ship transforms. Spoilers for Oathbringer It's not decisive, very differently invested things are involved, and a relatively large amount of difference in the amount of stormlight available. And I have no idea how KR soulcasting vs fabrial soulcasting affects gems. Jasnah soulcasts through Ivory but the gems still get used up (or cracked if too much investiture flows through them too quickly). I'm not sure if they get used up with different efficiencies. But the main problem is most of them don't prove that you can force a change with stormlight. We didn't get Jasnah's PoV when she transformed the people. And all the other examples involve some persuasion. Except for the first soulcasting by Shallan, the goblet to blood. That's the one that makes me feel like with enough investiture you'll have objects outbidding each other to change in exchange for it. It just doesn't prove that you can force a change with enough.
