Question about being able to use multiple magic systems
Extesian replied to Paladin Brewer's question in Cosmere Q&A
This one Seems a little questionable, but I'll assume it's legit unless finding out otherwise -
This one @Calderis The three I put were these Spool's is probably the best I've seen. Edit - ha, ninja'd by The One Who Ninja's!

Here, and a bonus one
-
The only thing I'll add to Spool's answer is my thought about why the Spiritual aspect 'ages'. I think it's Connections to other things makes it always know the age it should be. If you're connected to a thousand other things on the Spiritual Realm, and those things all have physical and cognitive aspects that all insist it's the same time, that feeds back to your spiritual self as a type of error correction.

This is Pagerunner's expertise But here it is, from the Boskone signing, Sunday signing line

Hmmm it appears the bond is voluntary symbiosis, not trapping the spren like a fabrial does.

Here are some useful WoBz

Thanks @FiveLate I'd never seen that language group WoB (or your thread on it and Shadesmar. I'm immediately struck by the Dawnchant languages being those of Listener origin and Shin. That's a fascinating bit of info I'm surprised I'd never seen. But I won't derail this thread further.

No worries, that one was unsearchable, the transcriber couldn't make out the question so the rest was almost meaningless. But I remembered the topic coming up recently and GildedBear saving the day!

The 17th Shard as the Kandra Nation.
Extesian replied to Calderis's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I'm totally 11G. Not quite 6 months yet and only discovered Sanderson two years ago. But like most kids these days, you can't shut me up -
@Calderis, @FiveLate it was from the Chicago AU signing, this is the transcription And here is where @GildedBear confirmed the question.

The 17th Shard as the Kandra Nation.
Extesian replied to Calderis's topic in General Brandon Discussion
If The Lord Sanderson dies and Dan Brown takes over and starts releasing WoDBs and influencing our community I will definitely kill my(account)self. -
I love this. All my years of causal interest in science and I never realized nor heard that as the definition. One of those definitions that immediately makes sense when you hear it.

Ha! I couldn't believe someone down voted you but I guess someone saw you were on 667 Btw I saw this, immediately upvoted your post, then realized the stupidity of that and removed by upvote. So you may have just technically got another downvote. I'll give the upvote back later. My breath to yours and all that.

I love this Budgie! The two first points don't surprise me, though it's good to have them in the Canon. But the mechanism for stopping him doing it. That fascinates me now. It could have been that he's incapable of performing an action that directly physically hurts someone. Or that anything he does to someone else physically feeds back and happens to him. But a nausea that can literally incapacitate him I did not expect. Not an effect I can picture realmatically. The closest thing I can think of is the Nightwatcher. Could he have actually gone to her? Could that be the reason for the nickname Slammer, she 'imprisoned' him from his ability to cause damage? Seems an unlikely idea though, he'd ever risk that. And can he hurt someone on the spiritual realm? Could he only do so by doing something that doesn't hurt them on the physical realm? Seems... unlikely. Too. Many. Questions.

Was, is or will anyone be at the Perth signings this weekend? I'm greedily and deeply hoping for some recordings or signing reports. It hurts not being there when it's my home city :'(

Oh I posted this on another thread in terms of the pretty good idea that she may not be Terris, but I found something in the Annotations. And @Alfa I liked those linguistic points. I suppose that WoB only specifies that one parent was Terris, but we do at least know she's a local.

The Stone Shamans don't need to worry about an Honorblade. They need to worry about a very angry Shin with one of the most dangerous objects in the Cosmere. And excellent point about Taln's blade Calderis!

For my 1000th post I'm going to do......... .................. a silly little speculative theory about Hoid So we know that Hoid was there for the Shattering of Adonalsium, and we know that he did not take up a Shard, but he was offered one. I'm basically interested in what Shard he rejected, and what limited things we can speculate about him from that. From this interesting little WoB, we know that it was not one of the Shards that we have been 'shown', as of January 2015. I see 'shown' as meaning either we have read of its world, we have read of its effects generally, we have read of its direct action or we have been told its name. I think it's the second or third option, its effects generally or its direct actions. Ruin, Preservation, Honor, Cultivation, Odium, Dominion, Devotion are clear. But we did not know the name of Bavadin's Shard, Autonomy, until later that year. If he's talking about the actual name of the Shard, Autonomy wouldn't count. Additionally, we only had the White Sand unpublished edition then, not the graphic novel, so he could also mean that we haven't officially been shown even the world Autonomy is on. So Autonomy could be one we hadn't been shown yet, but now know. The other candidate is Ambition. I believe the first we knew of Ambition was the publication of Arcanum Unbounded. I've certainly seen nothing about it as soon as January 2015. So Ambition is definitely one we didn't know at the time, but do now. I'm not going to speculate about the names of other Shards we don't know, there are other threads for that and it's a fool's errand in this case I mean, this is already a bit of a fool's errand, I just find it fun. But I could see Hoid being offered either one of those. I don't know if the others actively wanted him to become a Shardholder, or if the offer was just because he was integral in the Shattering, but either way it would make sense to me that he would be offered a Shard that matches his personality. Autonomous he is, and Ambitious he certainly is. (Of course, it could have been any other ones, but let's ignore that for now ). The question is why he rejected it. I suspect it's because he didn't want to be limited by the Intent of a Shard, he wants to be his own person and achieve his goals with flexibility. But we also have this! That of course doesn't mean that had he been offered Endowment, he would have accepted, but it's saying that's the most likely one he would accept. So my simple little idea is this; Hoid was offered Autonomy or Ambition because the others wanted him to take up a Shard, wanted to confine him to that Intent, and they thought he'd accept it because they thought that's who he is. They were wrong. Sort of. Hoid is those things, and definitely does bad things (Brandon said so), and may even be a bad person. But he wants to be good and he wants to help the Cosmere. He knew if he took up Autonomy he would be unable to interfere in the way he wanted, or if he took up Ambition he would probably hurt people and the Cosmere generally. The only Shard he would have been interested in was Endowment, because the only way he could responsibly take up that power would be to limit himself in a way that benefits people. Hoid is a bad man who wants to be good, who is afraid that his ambition will crush too many innocent people. So what did he do? He magically bound himself in a way that made him unable to inflict physical harm The. End.
