  1. The paintings are all incredible. Three of them, vedel jezrien and Ishar give me a serious renaissance christianity vibe. Maybe it's happenstance but those three all have halo like objects behind their heads, reminiscent of how the saints and angels are depicted in Christian artwork. Furthermore, vedel includes a set of keys, which is a common expression "vedels golden keys". This was a common practice, to include an object the subject was known for so that the uneducated masses would be able to identify who the painting was of. Anyways, just my first impression upon viewing.
  2. Talk about littoral waters. Now if only they had hover craft. Or swamp boats.
  3. I can't find any supporting evidence right now as I am at work on my lunch break but I believe it has been confirmed that the heralds are cognitive shadows. Also I believe it has been said that they could draw investiture directly from honor without the need to inhale stormlight, essentially giving them unlimited investiture. I'm not positive these things have been confirmed or if they are just theories though.
  4. So I posted this in the topic for chapters 7-9 but it seemed like it was going to get lost in all of the comments. What language does Oroden mean Child of Peace in? Is it in Alethi and it isn't translated to English in the book because it is a proper noun? Or is it a different in book language? Or is he named after someone else named Oroden who was called the Child of Peace? Personally I think the first option is most likely. This then leads me to wonder which parts of the name mean what. In my mind, it seems likely that the ending "den" might mean Child. This ending is very similar to "din" which leads me to wonder if Kaladin, who has been called a Child of Honor may literally mean Child of Honor. It doesnt seem very likely to me but it is what I immediately considered reading it and wanted to get more thoughts on it.
  5. I have a question. What language does Oroden mean Child of Peace in? Is it the Alethi language and they don't translate it to English in the book because it is a proper noun or is it a different in book language?
  6. I agree that It seems that Szeth can use the Gravitation surge. Whether his bond with Nightblood is giving him access to this surge or something else is purely conjecture at this point, however I think it unlikely that he is gaining access to the surge through a normal Nahel bond with a High spren. Though a High spren may be attracted to his rigid following of his inner code, and he is certainly broken, I dont see a High spren being bonded to him at the same time as Nightblood. @Eki I think the tone of the passage implies that he could do it on his own. I at least read it as the two journeymen Skybreakers being a little snide, and mocking, like if he doesnt use his surges he will never become a full Skybreaker. No other reason for this other than the feelings I got reading it.
  7. I am pretty sure there is a wob that there is in fact a Kandra worldhopper though the voice certainly isn't enough to verify the danlan melaan theory. Perhaps a closer look at their scenes will give more evidence one way or another. EDIT: I went through and did a less than completely thorough searching of the books for any comparisons between MeLaan and Danlan and the only thing I can find is that they both like to drink alcohol. In WoK: In BoM: I left out an unimportant bit in that quote. There are also other times where it is noted in both SoS and BoM that MeLaan enjoys drinking. Its not much but it is something.
  8. Are there limits to how fast a feruchemist can store an attribute? If not a full feruchemist could tap steel for speed and store mass with iron to approach the speed of light through conservation of momentum. My relativity physics isnt great so Im not sure if actual speed of light is attainable, but they could go pretty darn fast.
  9. Unless they are pushing off the coin at an extreme angle I'd say that the increase in friction due to the applied downwards force would be sufficient to hold the coin in place unless it was on a very smooth surface with little friction like ice. The friction force is proportional to the normal force on the object. Thus when they push downwards on the coin the force of friction is increased substantially. The downwards force necessary to lift off the ground has to be greater than the persons weight, therefore the normal force is increased by at least the amount the person weighs and most likely more. Since a normal coin probably weighs about 1/1000 of a persons weight this means the force of friction on the coin will increase around 1000 times. Easily enough to hold the coin in place.
  10. Hello everyone, I started my love of fantasy with the wheel of time. When Brandon was chosen to finish the series I decided to read some of his other works and have been an avid fan ever since. I've read the forums here for a while but never quite got around to creating an account until today, mostly because I wanted to answer a physics question someone posted.
