I've revised my favourite scenes since my last re-read of WoK and WoR. I've managed to narrow it down to three; 1) Kaladin & Adolin arena battle - This was one of the most gripping battles of the books, in my opinion. I imagine it's because the odds were so stacked against Kal and Adolin, so I was genuinely interested to see how they would overcome the challenge. Plus I enjoyed the budding bromance between the two of them. 2) The chasm scene - Although I was ambivalent to romance in SA, I approached this scene with an open mind. And I was so pleasantly surprised by it. The chemistry was palpable, so wonderfully written and emotional. Probably one of my favourite romance scenes written by Brandon Sanderson. I particularly loved the subtlety of it. More than even the romance, there is an undeniable level of character development, particularly on the part of Kaladin. 3) Kaladin saves Dalinar/Kaladin vs Szeth - I don't think this one requires an explanation to be honest! Kaladin finally revealing himself as a radiant to the Kholin's was something I was greatly anticipating the entire way through the book. Szeth vs Kaladin was a battle of truly epic proportions.

I find myself dying to peak in to the Oathbringer spoiler board too I know I'd regret it but what can I say, I'm a glutton for punishment. I'm re-reading WoR to tide me over till release date, which is a couple of days later for me since I live in the UK.

When you force your husband to read SA just so you have someone to fangirl with! Oh, and when your daily struggle is trying to resist reading the available Oathbringer chapters because you want to read it all in one go on the official release date

I have to agree with this. Her speaking in Old/Middle english for this scene alone threw me off, and made me cringe just a bit. I honestly disliked the Renarin bashing on Shallan's part towards the end of WoR. She really grew as a character during WoR, but this is a shortcoming which was hard for me to ignore. Calling someone 'creepy' is just rude. Also, the fact that she calls Kaladin 'bridgeboy'. I can just about understand when Adolin does it, as he met Kaladin as a bridgeman (poor excuse though it may be). But what need is there for Shallan to constantly say it, and in such a derogatory manner? I can't think of any other reason except that Shallan is constantly reminding him of his station in life. Szeth and Jasnah coming back certainly took away from the impact of their death scenes, but I'm looking forward to seeing more of them so I can't really complain. Although I do hope that people stay dead in future.

This thread is a great idea! I'm not new to the forum (I lurk more than I care to admit!) but I've been away for quite a while due to work commitments so I feel like I need to reintroduce myself. Hi everyone, my name is Riah and it's a pleasure to meet you all! Here are some facts about me; 1) I'm an avid gamer and anime fanatic. I've always believed that both serve as wonderful mediums for storytelling and compel the imagination. And I'm a sucker for a good story! 2) I am owned by two gorgeous and very demanding cats, Rin and George. 3) Kaladin is my favourite character in all fictional material I've come across, and SA are my all time favourite books (I'm sure the latter is true for many people on this board!) 4) I work as a doctor. A job which I find ridiculously stressful and soul destroying at times. But ultimately, I wouldn't change it for the world. I can't think of anything else on the spot, so I shall leave it at that.

This is Rin! He's just under one years old, and a complete baby in the way he acts. Always wants cuddles and refuses to sleep anywhere else but on your face!

Navani probably. She never grew on me, I suppose because I always felt a bit like she manipulated Dalinar in their first few interactions. Plus I have a soft spot for Gavilar so hearing her speak as if she didn't give a damnation about him even whilst he lived made me dislike her more. Not to mention her irrationally cold attitude towards Shallan initially, though I suppose she was just exhibiting grief in her own bizzare, entitled way. I do agree that Adolin has a very reverent cult following on 17th Shard. Whilst I like the guy, I'm not sure I adore him the way a lot of people on here do so in that way I suppose he is 'overhyped', technically speaking.

Definitely a bit envious of everyone who can eat without gaining weight! I have to be super careful, if I completely let go I think I'd become a dough ball xD As for snacks I like, it's usually sweets (candy)...anything gummy (sour) or chocolatey! I love ice cream sandwiches and popcorn too. Got to cut this down though as diabetes runs in my family. So I've not been snacking much recently

You've absolutely sold that to me now, so Yuri on Ice will definitely be the next show I watch Especially from the fact that you've become a fan of figure skating as a result of the show, that gives me a bit more confidence too. I'll definitely let you know how I find it. I'm sort of in the same situation with not having that many anime-obsessed friends!

I'm INFJ, which apparently makes up less then 1% of the population. Reading the description was so interesting, I felt like it described me perfectly, especially when it said humanitarian work is our calling (I'm going to qualify as a doctor this year). It's even listed as one of the career paths of a INFJ. Going to get everyone in my family to do this now!

I really want to check out Yuri on Ice, but I'm not sure it'll be my cup of tea! I'm just worried because I've never been a fan of sports anime, so based on that would you recommend it? Though i've never watched/read any, I'm open minded to the Yaoi/shonen-ai elements. But I won't watch anything purely for the romance, so I hope I can find the ice skating elements enjoyable. But on the whole, I feel this year was a tad sparse on the good anime front, save for a couple of titles

This!! You've spoken my thoughts exactly. I was taught it was wrong to make derogatory comments on the whole, especially about things like weight, and it's so bizzare to me that this bit of common decency has slipped past so many. If I mention anything about a person's weight at all, it would only be to tell them how great they look if they've lost weight. The five minute rule is great, think I'll mention that the next time I'm giving someone a dressing down. Rabid shipping fangirls are also another pet peeve of mine. It's okay to have a ship, but if your entire board presence becomes about that ship then it's irritating to say the least. There's so much more to stories and characters then who they end up with. I think I almost feel embarassed for people like that, perhaps because I used to be a bit like that back when i was in my early teens!

When people fat shame other people. Seeing this literally makes my blood boil, I'll charge in and give the person in question a dressing down in public. No one deserves to feel like their very existence is something to be ridiculed/belittled. I don't know why I feel so strongly about it but when I see someone sad because of this it literally breaks my heart. I think it may be because my gentle, kind-hearted brother was shamed like this all through his childhood.

It was my dad's birthday today, so we had rainbow birthday cake that was just divine!
