[OB] Shalladin isn't as bad of an idea as you think.
PlanetReelo replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
True, Shadolin was not a part of your original post. But both Shadolin and Shalladin are the basis for discussion in this thread, so I'm not sure that I've done anything wrong by drawing your comment back to the original subject matter. The two ships are continually being compared in this thread, and many others on this forum. I am simply trying to say that there should be acknowledgement of cliches on both sides. To be honest, your statement about shalladin being cliche was pretty definitive, regardless of context. I may have misinterpreted the 'shaming' part though, that's my bad! I also admit that it would have been more pertinent to quote one of your other comments instead of the one I picked. The second trope that you stated below was the one that I have heard echoed by Shadolin supporters time and time again, and I had that in mind when I replied. -
My husband just peeked at my phone as I scrolled to your post and yelled 'CASTIELLL!!' before he even read the caption! Sign of a great cosplay, I'd say! This pic of me is a little bit boring compared to the recent offerings on this thread. Just a pic of me coming back from my holiday in Malaysia this year.

I found Warbreaker: the anime!
PlanetReelo replied to Djarskublar's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I've seen this anime on Crunchyroll's list. It's on my queue so I was going to get around to it eventually, but hearing about all these similarities to Warbreaker has made me super curious! I think I'll have to bump it up on the list. Will let you know what I think! -

Firstly, why would you think that this is an attack? I'm pointing out a fallacy in an argument that someone has put forward. I'm simply debating. Whilst maybe not directly aimed at you, your post is reminiscent of an argument I have observed more than a handful of times on this forum - and in all those instances they were Shadolin supporters pointing out supposed cliches whilst ignoring others. Apologies if you felt that I pulled your post out of context, but I read all the posts leading up to it and I felt it was relevant to point out that cliches are prevalent throughout WoK and WoR. -
American Horror Story! I've seen up to and including season 5. This series definitely suffers from some serious peaks and troughs in terms of quality, but when it's good it's really good. My favourite seasons are probably Asylum, Murder House and Hotel.

Ah that's annoying! Was it a major spoiler? I've been tempting fate lately by dipping in and out of the oathbringer spoiler thread, but by some way of miracle nothing has been spoilt for me yet. -
I've heard of it! The art style looks quite interesting. Would you recommend it?

This. I have a medical background, and the number of people who genuinely believe this despite; -Numerous studies disproving a link between the MMR vaccine and autism -Andrew Wakefield being found to have vested interest in the outcome of the trial -Andrew Wakefield being STRUCK OFF and unable to practice medicine due to said misleading trial -The Lancet retracting the study Honestly, it's incredibly frustrating. To compromise herd immunity and the health of babies too young to get any vaccines because you believe mumsnet and Google over your own doctor...I have extremely little patience for these people now.

Relax, no one is 'shaming you' in to liking anything. I've noticed that Shallan and Adolin shippers like to complain about cliche tropes as and when it suits them. If we're talking about cliches, the old 'longstanding womaniser who finally changes for that one 'different' girl' trope makes my eyes roll to the back of my skull. So it's really more a matter of which cliches you personally like/dislike, and that's why I can never take these arguments seriously. When I was watching one of Brandon's lectures, I think I recall he mentioned something to the effect of most ideas having been done is one way or another, but success lying in their exploration from a different angle. Cliches are a common occurrence in fantasy literature, but even they can be explored in a refreshing and original manner. -
FMAB is definitely better them FMA. But I found that FMAB rushes through the early events of the manga, as if assuming that it's viewers had already seen FMA and therefore not as much screentime is required to re explore these scenes. So if you're starting with FMAB it may be hard to keep up. I would recommend watching FMA up until the point where the plots diverge, then switching back to FMAB.

Wow, that sounds really rough! I hope you manage to stay away from spoilers. I'm not going to read the prologue or the chapters that are out either. I feel as though I'd be cheating myself out of a treat on November 16th (UK release date). -
I'm juggling a few series at the moment, but the one that I'm enjoying the most is Aho girl. It's really ridiculous and I think you have to have quite a high threshold for stupidity to enjoy it. My husband and I love it.

The first BS book I read was The Final Empire. This had to have been about 9 years ago because I was still in high school and just about to go to Spain with my family for summer break. We were at Heathrow airport departures. Having realised that I hadn't grabbed a book for the summer, I ran in to WHSmith and grabbed the first book with an interesting cover that I could see. And whilst I most certainly judged the book by its cover in this instance, I'm so grateful that I did because it introduced me to Brandon Sanderson and the wonderful, immersive worlds that he creates.

I hope it gets better for you soon. I'm 24 now, but I remember my last 3 years of school being ridiculously stressful, because I was trying to maintain my grades and do lots of extracurricular activities to look good for universities. So I really sympathise with you, and I wouldn't relive that period of my life even if someone paid me to. I chose a very demanding career path so the stress never really ended for me, but I do think it gets much better for the majority of people once they get to university. So hang in there! Edit: The most important piece of advice I can give you is to still maintain your hobbies. No matter how hectic things get, always make time for the things you love. Gaming/watching anime/reading all keep me sane through the most taxing of times. Have things to look forward to and work towards, like an event in the distant future. That's the Oathbringer release date for me! -
Wow this is absolutely incredible! Wish I could upvote it more than once!

I love your choices for these characters! Dane DeHaan's acting in Chronicle makes me think he'd be great as Szeth. For Shallan, I might consider Jane Levy as well. For Kaladin, young-ish Keanu Reeves is basically my headcanon for him. But seeing as I don't currently own a time machine, Ezra Miller or Luke Pasqualino could work I think. I think Liam Hemsworth could work for Adolin. Oh, and young Tobey Maguire as Renarin (definitely need that time machine!). To be honest, I almost certainly won't be watching the SA movies, because never have I ever found a book-to-screen adaptation to be better than the source material. Plus it messes with the way I imagined things from the book, pretty much irrevocably. I do think an anime would have had the best chance of depicting things as closely to the books as possible, it's a shame that's been ruled out.

Papa Roach ft. Skylar Grey - Periscope I think I may be in the minority here, but I've actually enjoyed the change in sound from Papa Roach's older songs (not that those weren't great!)

What are you playing right now?
PlanetReelo replied to Link Von Kelsier Harvey's topic in Entertainment Discussion
So I just finished Bioshock Infinite. I'm sitting in shock from the twist at the end. One of the most incredibly well thought out games I've played in the last few years. I'm going to have to go back and play it again, so I can fully appreciate all the hints/events leading up to the finale. Just a quick question for those who have played it; -
I agree, endless monologues would indeed be dreadful! But I can't see BS letting it get to that - SA's story and world are too rich in detail and plot-heavy to allow for devolution in to something so one dimensional. Twilight's plot would be virtually non-existent without romance, but the same definitely can not be said for SA. His main ship is Dalinar/Navani? That's rather interesting to hear! I'm not partial to the pairing myself, potentially because I never warmed to Navani. Still, I enjoy when an authour has the ability to change my mind about something, so I look forward to seeing what's to come for the two of them.

I couldn't have said it better myself. The problem is not with love triangles themselves, but with the level of investment/obsession of members of the fandom. It's appears to be so extreme in some people that I'm convinced that their entire enjoyment of the series will be ruined if their ship does not sail. So a love triangle will always end up disappointing someone, and for that reason I believe that people would prefer to avoid them altogether. Personally, of the current pairing potentials I have enjoyed Kaladin and Shallan's interactions the most. However, it won't be world-shatteringly disappointing to me if they don't end up together. I just hope that they all get to have happy endings, but even that might be too much to ask for so I'm cautious in my hope for it. I hope that BS continues to include romance at the level which he did for WoK and WoR, because I found it to be perfect and complementary to the main plot.

I think I have to agree with you there! I think my bias towards it comes from my love of cyberpunk settings. The battle system is great too, I like the way that you can plan attacks. It's simple and effective. -

Alethi dark eyes and proud! From what I know about you so far, you're a gamer who plays indie games, which immediately makes you very cool in my book! -

There's another game like Bastion called Transistor. My goodness, it's such a beautiful game. The soundtrack, the ambiance, the narration...if you're looking for something reminiscent of Bastion then you'll find this to be a treat. "Digital: A love story" looks so interesting! And good visual novels are my weakness, so I'll be sure to check this out. -
It's a pleasure meeting you This is such a lovely idea for a thread, sharing music is a really interesting and intimate way to get to know people. Looking forward to seeing you around the board!

David Hodges - Another Red Light This song represents my life because I try to live by its message. This song got me through an insanely tough time 5 years ago, so I hold it close to my heart. The verses that resonate with me the most are the following; "The long black car moves slow through the intersection,I take a left and I point my life in the opposite direction,I take a breath, 'cause I can't help thinking,That the man in that lincoln, is telling me to,Smile, when you're not supposed to laugh,And cry when you're supposed to hold it back,And live like the sun is burning out of the sky,'Cause tomorrow's too late, so don't waste a day of this life."
