  1. No evidence that Sadeas plotted against Gavilar. It was only years later that he set himself against Dalinar specifically. At the time he was trying to keep Elohkar under his influence.
  2. The size of the metal can affect how large a charge it can carry.
  3. No, he can manipulate the individual powers if needs, so he's likely capable of producing atium and lerasium. We don't he's done something with the extra ruin, just not if he made atium or something.
  4. Szeth was never instructed to not use the power, only told it would be taught after the third Ideal. Kaladin is the only Radiant observed to use both surges before the second Ideal. Lift and Dalinar maybe have been able to, but were never shown to use both surges before the second Ideal. We do not know whether Shallan was able to soulcast as a child, and as I understand it, is already at Ideal 3, maybe 2, when she soulcast in WoK. And even with Kaladin, he was able to create vacuums, but was only recently shown to create high-pressure areas following his third Ideal. It would make sense that, along with Blades and Plate, different surges, and even abilities within the surges, are unlocked at different Ideals for different orders.
  5. Your soul needs to be open to investiture. Cracks are some of the most common ways for this to occur, but not the only.
  6. The Lightweaver's abilities to create illusions, along with being able to craft strong personalities that don't fade, allows them to lie to themselves very easily.
  7. I completely understand the vague sense of dissatisfaction. I felt it too. Oathbringer was a good good book, but I couldn't call it a great book for reasons I couldn't quite figure out. Best I can tell, there is too much going on. Not everything can be touched on, because there are simply too many plot lines for each to get a lot of screen time. For instance, I'm sure there were plenty of tears and happy reunions with Jasnah, but it just wasn't touched on, not that it didn't happen. But of course, the massive scope of SA is part of the reason I love the series, so I wouldn't want less plot lines. But that still means it has to cut corners somewhere, which prevents it from being amazing. I suspect that once the 4th and 5th books, at least, come out, OB will become much more enjoyable as we'll have better context for what's going on, instead of the wonderful, but at times vague and confusing, story it is right now.
  8. Elhokar was naturally suspicious, which when combined with all the other things, like the assassin and seeing Cryptics in mirrors and out of the corners of his eyes, made for not entirely undeserved paranoia. And yes, the gem thing was kinda abandoned, but that makes sense considering the war and new storm and whatnot.
  9. I don't think Adolin drew anything there, that was Veil.
  10. At the end of Oathbringer, Nale says Szeth now has access to Division and should be careful with it. That indicates that the 3rd oath unlocks the power, not just that that's when it is taught. As for the Shallan thing, we have the viewpoint from Shallan of Radiant appearing with shardplate. Unless Shallan can remotely command her shardplate to appear on an illusion, it is much more likely that the shardplate was an illusion. Dalinar's vision shows the Windrunner, in his armor, lashing his female companion. Wearing the armor stops other from lashing you, not you from lashing others, unless they also have armor. That's why his companion had to dismiss her armor for the flight, but he could keep wearing his.
  11. House Sadeas is in an interesting spot narratively. They were an interesting antagonist to Dalinar, because of how they used to be friends and turned enemies, and that was a source of frustration that Dalinar couldn't just force people to unite, an important part to his story. But that also means that Ialai is set in her ways, and having her become an ally would have to be handled well or it would feel cheap. Changing leadership would be possible, but the story so far hasn't had time to focus on lesser house members, and time spent doing in the next book would detract from other happenings. That said, this book in some ways incorporates a war of Ideologies, so spending time on converting Ialai or a replacement might further the story, showing team Dalinar uniting in spite of differences. Plus the year time gap between books 3 and 4 could take care of some of the boring stuff.
  12. Tien makes the most sense, which the demand part being Syl's nature compelling her in such a way that she couldn't ignore Tien. Manipulation by Cultivation comes in second, although I don't feel that there is groundwork in place for that to make a good story.
  13. Others explained most of the Rock question, but it is currently unknown how he used the shardbow. He's strong, but the bow shouldn't be usable without plate, and there is no indication that Rock can normally equally a man in shardplate. Investiture has to be able to get into a soul, but a cracked soul is not the only way. I have a theory that children have flexible souls and an open mind, allowing them to more easily accept new investiture into their souls, which allowed for the initial bonding with Pattern. Eshonei might have been describing the spren as angry since it is made of Odium, while angerspren are attracted to anger. The principles of the magic system existed before the Shards. Dawnsigners are essentially fabrials, and they existed before the shattering, so it is hard to say that fabrials are of Cultivation. Even the surges aren't of Honor/Cultivation, its the spren-bond that is (sorta) of H/C, which in turn allows for accessing the surges. I think its implied here that he heard the Highspren, or perhaps a different Highspren, when he was a child. This would match up with other radiants experiencing spren moments in their childhoods.
  14. Normally, I'd agree because it is much more realistic that way. But, Trellism has some strong ties to Taldain. And Bavadin is known for co-opting religions. With those two pieces of information in mind, I view Autonomy taking successful religions from one world and seeding them on others as entirely possible.
  15. Another interesting tidbit about the windspren is that they're exposed to the physical Highstorm. Speculation, but it may be possible they pick up traces of stormlight, allowing for them to make small use of adhesion in their pranks. This would also lead into the other subspren being a part of the Radiants powers as well. Maybe all the base spren have the ability to help manipulate the surges, when they're connected to a Radiant that is pumping stormlight through them; think Kaladin creating a pressure wave to block the Hightstorm, and maybe the creationspren were assisting Shallan during her defense of Thaylen City. We never see any of this normally because subspren never have access to stormlight, except perhaps for the windspren that are exposed to Highstorms on a regular basis, which lets them stick things together.
  16. The two religions do share a theme of a Jealous brother, and a more beloved brother. After reading that part of Roshar, I immediately thought of Trellism. It could just be Brandon reusing a theme in a religion because it fits and/or he forgot he already used it, or maybe its an example of how different people can form similar beliefs and patterns in religions... OR its Autonomy spreading her/his/it's ever-expanding religious influence across the cosmere!? More data needed.
  17. Good catch. Keeping justice and not the law in mind, Wax would fit in more. Edgedancers on the other hands are about listening to people, something Wax is very good at not doing.
  18. Odium mentions remaking(I interpret this to mean destroying) Roshar after he is freed, and several characters from books 1-5 will be in 1-6, so its unlikely he is freed. Probably... maybe... That said, WoB confirm that Odium has influence all over the cosmere, so he could be involved in the attack against Harmony, just indirectly. Autonomy is suspected to be the primary threat to Scadrial and Harmony for three reasons. 1. The name Trell, comes from Trellism which is one of Sazed's religions, and autonomy is known for co-opting religions. 2. Bleeder seems focused on freeing everyone from God's control, aka granting them autonomy. 3. Odium is allied with some Cosmere Powers that Be, and Autonomy is a candidate for being an ally(that one doesn't have much proof so its kinda weak) White Sands Spoilers
  19. My first thought was NO, but because I like Wax and don't like Skybreakers. My second thought was, well maybe. But my third thought is no, he wouldn't. Wax believes in Justice, not the law. Now, he's generally for the law, order helps increase justice. But he's too willing to bend rules to be a skybreaker. I think he'd be more in line with Windrunners. That said, 5th oath skybreakers become Law, so maybe he'd fit in there. Edit: Changed "Justice" to "Law" for skybreaker's fifth oath.
  20. It varies depending on the spike placement and changes. So long as taking the spike out doesn't kill you, I think its safe to say you can swap them. They'll lose charge while outside the body, so it wouldn't be the best idea, but definitely doable as shown by Vin. When it comes to inquisitors though, some spikes will cause death when removed. The same likely goes for the Koloss since they experience so much physical change. In the case of the set, they very likely can interchange spikes without too much harm.
  21. @The One Who Connects Good point, forgot about that WoB. Still kinda vague on how she helped, but she did help at some point. @PewterAGoldF I think Lightweaver's resonance is their mnemonic ability, aka the mental snapshot she can do.
  22. It is vague, but without any other information regarding how Odium killed Dev and Dom, it can't be dismissed either. Odium is terrified of Harmony. Dev and Dom together would have been equal in power to Harmony, but with a lot more experience, so it would make sense that he brought help. Not the only way, just a possibility. Edit: spelling
  23. 1. Shallan has two different issues, the first being the ability to lie to herself/block bad memories. The second is her personality issue and her inability to decide who she is. Then throw in the fact that her abilites as a Lightweaver allow for weird memory manipulation and the ability to make her madeup personalities take a life of their own. Its hard to say what Shallan has, as its multiple things feeding each other. 2. Considering what we know of Connection, the spiritual aspect, it seems likely that the Heralds are connected spiritually through the Oathpact, but this is unconfirmable with current knowledge. 3. That statement is subject to lots of debate, and I'm sure Brandon giggles in delight at how much trouble its giving us. We could refer to Rayse and Odium, Odium and the parsh, Odium and another shard, or anything else. You could refer to Honor, as a separate being from Tanavast or Dalinar, Adon, or something else entirely. Autonomy may have played a role in Dom and Dev's deaths. I can't find the WoB, but it was indicated that Autonomy was involved, but Brandon didn't say if it was watching or active or something else. WoB states Cultivation was present at the death of Honor and also close enough to see how he was killed. But Brandon refuses to confirm or deny whether Cultivation was against or with Honor at his end, or even participated.
  24. Navani mentions that Gavilar was not the best husband, but it is never, to my knowledge, indicated that he was a bad father. But I think that is the source of the bad father speculation.
  25. No, you have to continuously be storing weight to be weightless. As soon as the storing stopped, the body weight would return to normal.
