  1. I'm trying to think of a way to incorporate some la la land-esque music, because that's my current obsession, but can't think of anything that really fits. Except for maybe "A lovely night" with kaladin and shallan in the chasm being argumentative and whatnot
  2. I liked it, in a similar way to how I liked sixth of the dusk. Good, intriguing, but also a little disconcerting. I didn't like the apathy Chaz and Davis showed over the death of dupes, and I found some sections a little rushed. I also didn't see either twist coming. maybe I'm just dumb. I find it ridiculous that Sanderson can invariably succeed in whatever genre he writes in. The darker tone was interesting, definitely a paradigm shift for me. Nearly everything I've read by him thus far has a good resolution, and even if twists are saddening, they primarily change the plot, not my perception of the characters or the theme. I was really happy to see Davis not shoot Chaz, and then learning that he did changed my perception of his character monumentally. I liked how it was "a thinker", I liked how different it was, and how similar it was to inception (best movie ever) but it was not my favorite work by Brandon.
  3. I don't think they live on stones at all. The ecology of shinovar is very different than anywhere else on roshar. I think their desire for soulcast metal is economical more than it is theological. Shinovar just doesn't have the same ore and mineral deposits (and rocks at all) as the rest of the world. Sorry to change the subject from the more cosmere-y explanations bouncing around, I just think it's simpler than that.
  4. Don't know how I missed that thank you @Pagerunner
  5. Anyone know when this book will be released? It wasn't in the SotS, I assume because it's still kind of a secret.
  6. Just did an Alcatraz reread. I don't have any theories, but Alcatraz is always dropping little hints and stuff about the future. Here's some things I gathered( and I don't have page numbers or direct quotes. Please don't hate me) -Alcatraz will be thrown off something taller than mt Everest. I assume this to mean the worldspire. -Gravity will be broken or otherwise negated. -Alcatraz will go blind? ( kind of think this was just a joke) -He and Bastille end up married. Technically there's other ways she could be in the same house, be a smedry, and be directly related, but come on.
  7. Maybe the amount of effort Odium puts into destroying the world is directly proportional to the amount of effort expended to stop him. In a world where both the Heralds and Radiants have thrown in the towel Odium doesn't need a massive battle to rule. But when the knights begin to gather and Taln shows up, he begins the cycle again. The way I see it, there are more subtle ways to seize power, especially on a comere-wide level, than a massive apocalyptic battle which could very well unify everyone against you. Assuming Odium has control over when the desolations occur, why have one to destroy people who pose no threat to you? No one even knew Honor had been splintered. Because basically everyone on Roshar is ignorant of Odiums existence, of course they'd be ignorant of his end goal.
  8. It is difficult to say what is impossible- for the dream of yesterday is the hope of today, and the reality of tomorrow. -Robert Goddard(inventor of the liquid fueled rocket!!!)

    Chaos?

    Scary-And-Easily-Recognizable-Avatar-Guy gets my vote @Chaos @Manukos
  10. I was at the airport a couple weeks ago and saw this plaque. I immediately thought of the homeland security as a kr order. The Homelanders! They use cohesion and adhesion to make you stick around the airport for way longer then you intended.
  11. When you get a twitter for the sole purpose of following Brandon and use a fake name so no one you know will follow your account. (Me three hours ago)
  12. Kiins family are the main characters for elantris sequels??? They better get a new audiobook company. Kaise and Daorn's voices haunt my dreams.
  13. Almost all my ideas for main characters have been said. Daniel Radcliffe as jastes lekal Matt Damon as Marsh In the post-secret history world ruin and preservation could get some screen time. If this was the case I would have Benedict cumberbatch for ruin and Eddie Raymane for Preservation. I totally agree with tom hardy as breeze.
  14. One problem I have had with Stormlight Archive was resolved in this story. I never liked how Shallan was able to become a radiant as a very young girl because I feel like a child would have trouble comprehending the concepts necessary to become a knight. But in edgedancer, lift advances simply by embodying an ideal in her thoughts and desires. While older than shallan I still think this is comparable, and resolved my dissatisfaction with that part of WoR.
  15. Im late to the game, but I loved this book!! My thoughts are as follows: Dif was a little obvious IMO I love the connection between oculator powers and the talents The ending turned dark absurdly fast The characterization of Shasta is awesome. Her complexity and motives are one of my favorites of any Sanderon book. Having Bastille call herself Bastille Smedry was definitely worth the first ending, which I wasnt a huge fan of.
  16. In one of the illustrations in Dark Talent a character is reading mistborn.
  17. I predict that as punishment for killing Sadeas, Adolin will be banished. He will go to shinovar because a.) he feels bad that everyone's a proto radiant but him and wants an honorblade, and b.) so Brandon can make us more informed about the heralds and all that jazz.
  18. I really want to go to the San Francisco one...
  19. I've been told not to take baked goods around here... @Lord_of_Awesome Your katana is stolen and you are killed with it(elder wand style.) I wish to be a bendalloy feruchemist and win every eating contest ever.
  20. Granted. It is magically attracted to your eyeballs, and is not tear-free. I wish to be able to play any musical instrument in the world without practicing.
  21. Haha I remember when I picked up way of kings for the first time. I almost crashed my car reading while driving home. Honestly, after reading the first mistborn book, you will desperately need more mistborn. However, when you have finished those I would highly recommend Elantris as a phenomenal book without a massive commitment. @AngelEy3
  22. YOU choose Ryshadium, which is an incredibly valid reason for going there.
  23. So I found a WoB saying that different orders get their blade at different levels. I do think it's reasonable to say she read the first ideal. If I remember correctly after that advancement is based on crafting lies, which probably wasn't hard for a girl in an abusive home. In one flashback sequence she drew her family as a tight knit, happy group. If she had done that before her mothers death that might have been enough to advance.
  24. That's fair. I always assumed Hoid had stolen it from Kelsier, but that is way more plausible.@1stBondsmith
  25. I just finished my reread of bands of mourning, and thought this was really interesting. This is from the epilogue, where Wax taps the coppermind. It sounds way to much like a soulcast barrack to be a coincidence to me. How he talks about that memory flickering away in more detail than anything else in this scene is really interesting. So wild speculation, which I will happily have torn apart by all of you, is this: the above named coppermind-filler is a worldhopper who spent time on Roshar. Just a crazy thing I noticed.
