Favourite Stormlight Archive qoute

"Expectation wasn't just about what people expected of you. It was about what you expected of yourself." - Words of Radiance Chapter 15: A Hand with the Tower, page 263 paperback edition, Shallan's POV when she used Lightweaving on the slavers the first time. -
I didn't even think of this, I like this though. Thanks! This was really well put, sir.

The only reason I see a big problem with that is that the Ardentia claim that seeing events that haven't happened yet is of the Voidbringers. I don't think they would get along well with the Truthwatchers in that regard.

This could also very well be the case, I've only read the books once a piece because I'm such a slow reader and I don't tend to reread books very often. Also, just for clarification, it's Stonewards, not Stonewardens XD

I know that he saw some Stonewards at Feverstone Keep, so I could very well be wrong. On the point about the diagram of the Orders, Windrunners have been said to be the closest Order to Honor and Edgedancers are closest to Cultivation.

The Shin Stone Shamans obviously have a secret when it comes to spren and the Knights Radiant as a whole. Szeth was told by them when he was exiled that the Knights Radiant are fallen and that they are all that remains. Then they exiled him from the Valley of Truth, naming him Truthless. Truth seems to be a recurring theme here, it is also mentioned by Jasnah at one point as well as, "Truth" with a capital T so it must have some significance. We do know, I can't remember where it was mentioned so feel free to correct me, that the Spiritual Realm is a place of absolute truth. This could tie into the spirits of the stone that Szeth constantly mentions. Spren are Cognitive representations of things but they should have a presence of some sort in the Spiritual Realm just as humans do.

I think the subterfuge being at the expense of the other nine means that they remained hidden while the other Orders were forced to forsake their Oaths. I'm team Stoneward when it comes to the Order that didn't fall but as it has been pointed out, Dalinar witnessed some Stonewards forsake their Oaths and lay down their Shardblades in one of his visions. BUT, as @Argel pointed out, there is a lot of apparent connections between the Stonewards and the Shin Stone Shamans. In the end though, we don't have enough information yet as to what caused the Recreance and which Order could have possibly survived considering the situation. The Shin Stone Shamans and their belief structure treats the stones as sacred and ward them from being walked upon, according to Szeth. It could be possible that something is very special about the stone that Roshar needed to be kept in the dark about, thus why they were so hasty in banishing Szeth and naming him Truthless. This could possibly be the thunderclasts that we have seen a few times in visions.

The Legendary Stubborness of the Stonewards
Xaklys replied to DrakeMarshall's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I can give you that, like I said, I will reread the vision and see what I think. I don't have a problem being wrong, especially since it will further narrow down the Orders that did break their Oaths. -
The Legendary Stubborness of the Stonewards
Xaklys replied to DrakeMarshall's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I'll reread the vision, I think I remember the mention of the Stonewards but I have only read the books once a piece so a look over wouldn't hurt. I think there are too many things that point toward the Order that didn't fall being the Stonewards (with the spirit of the stones that Szeth mentions and how they are all that remains of the fallen Knights Radiant), but I could be wrong. -
The Legendary Stubborness of the Stonewards
Xaklys replied to DrakeMarshall's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Could you maybe find the quote for me? I would really appreciate it if you, or anyone could. I agree with the Stonewards being the ones who didn't take part in the Recreance but if that is incorrect, I would like to know because I am working on a Recreance theory and I would like to have all of the information that I can get. Thanks in advance! -
I agree with this theory a lot actually. I do know that Tanavast/Honor/The Almighty died between Aharietiam and the Recreance. I think it may have been the death of Honor that caused some kind of rift between the Knights Radiant and their spren, with the exception of one Order (my money is on the Stonewards because Taln is the only one that held true to the Oathpact). The lack of Honor caused the Radiants to feel as though they could (or should) abandon their Oath just like their respective Heralds did. The leaving of their Shards is reminiscent of what the Heralds did after the Last Desolation (may even have some Cognitive implications here since they were filling the roles of the Heralds as well as following in their footsteps). Either way, solid theory. It got me thinking anyway You might be onto something.

Thanks, friend! I can't take full credit for it, I've pieced together several theories that I've seen that I happen to agree with based on the epigraphs that seem to refer to Taln (i.e. The Ancient of Stones and what not), there are actually quite a few referring to something holding back the Desolation. On this topic of discussion about the "man who refers to himself as Taln," I think you are onto something with Amaram being the only one to believe that his is Taln, him and Wit rather. That could very well be exactly why Brandon keeps calling him that.

Anticipated Orders (Orders you are interested in)
Xaklys replied to Xaklys's topic in Stormlight Archive
Elsecallers are probably my number two for the Order I want to see more of. They are the liaisons of the Physical Realm to the spren... that's incredible. Jasnah has already conferred with them on some level because she came out of the junction at the end of Words of Radiance with updated knowledge about the Almighty and the state of Roshar as far as the Desolation coming. Besides, other than Shallan, Jasnah is my girl. I did not expect to have liked her as much as I did until she came out of the junction, I was pretty glad that she had survived.- 26 replies

No, I mean he sees himself as Taln even though he's in this maddened state is what I meant. That situation is tricky because Brandon keeps referring to him as someone who believes he is Taln.

I have been thinking about this myself a lot lately so I wanna see what everyone else thinks. What are the Orders that everyone is most interested in, likes, or anticipates learning about the most? Feel free to discuss why and even bring up more than one if you'd like! 1. Windrunners 2. Skybreakers 3. Dustbringers 4. Edgedancers 5. Truthwatchers 6. Lightweavers 7. Elsecallers 8. Willshapers 9. Stonewards 10. Bondsmiths I am personally very interested in the Stonewards the more I looking into all the theories surrounding stones, the Shin Stone Shamans, Talenel'Elin, the Ancient of Stones, the Thunderclasts, Stones Unhallowed, etc. I even saw that Brandon had signed someone's book with a rough conceptualization of an untold ideal which was, "I will stand when others fall." That sounds very Stoneward-esque to me considering that they were supposed to be as steadfast as Taln, as well as their focus on strength. I also believe they are the one Order that did not betray their spren during the Recreance. Let me know what you all think!

I just think so much has pointed towards him actually being Taln with the Desolation returning and the whole Ancients of Stones thing and all the epigraphs in The Way of Kings like the one about "the burden of nine becomes mine." It just all points to Taln, Talenel'Elin, Herald of War, Stonesinew, and bearer of all agonies is this person who is obviously out of his gourd that Amaram found. Sorry for the dramatic rattling off of Taln's names, I like names a lot XD P.S. I do agree that it is weird that Brandon refers to him as "someone who believes he is Taln," and I honestly don't have an answer for why he is saying that, but I'm going off what has been written/theories I like so far. It may or may not have something to do with the theme of Perception that is very relevent on Roshar since the Cognitive Realm and it's impact does exist. Feel free to disagree, this is just my stance on the idea, P.P.S. I think Stonewards are my most anticipated Order of Knights Radiant the more I think about them and how they could possibly tie into Szeth's past/culture. Other Orders I'm excited about are the Willshapers, Elsecallers, and Truthwatchers (especially since seeing the future is "of the Voidbringers.")

Amaram mentions something to this effect when he goes to visit him in the asylum, that he thought that all of the Heralds would all be Alethi. This is obviously because he expects the Heralds to be like him like most religions do but it supports that if the mind/spirit of Taln is possessing this man, he was already not Alethi.

I think he is Taln (Talenel'Elin) but he has obviously been broken by four millennia of torture from Odium. I agree with the theory that this "Ancient of Stones" that is holding back the Desolation this whole time that Taravangian referred to in the Diagram is Taln. Whilst on Braize (if that is actually where they go when they die), the Heralds have to bear all of Rayse's hatred to prevent him from going to town on Roshar, which is what the Desolations are basically. The Ancient beginning to crack means that he can't hold back Odium anymore, which is why the Desolation has come again. That explains the other Heralds abandoning the Oathpact and leaving Taln to suffer, and his suffering has driving him to madness.

I saw a theory on this site about the two gods that Ishikk mentioned in his interlude. The theory proposed that Nu Ralik is Tanavast (Honor) and that Vun Makak is Rayse (Odium). The theory made perfect sense to me, Rayse obviously controls the word right now based off of the Stormfather's words, "Odium reigns", and it also fits because it mentions how the younger brother is jealous and wants to be worshipped. This makes sense to me and kinda would be neat considering that this was the very first interlude of the series.
-
I disagree with you on this one. As I said earlier, we can't REALLY make any kind of judgment on Renarin yet, we haven't seen anything from his point of view, at all. We have no idea what kinda of past he has, thus why he is getting a sequence of his own. It's only two books in guys, who knows what is gonna happen? Just because they get a flashback sequence doesn't mean they are gonna be the most important characters at the time, that's been the case so far but there could very well be characters who are dead that have flashback sequences (as Brandon has said). Brandon has also been planning Renarin for a long time so I'm sure he has some kind of juicy plot planned just like he does with the others.
-
We'll just have to see. You are entitled to your opinion, nothing wrong with wanting more out of a character. I normally would agree with you on the prophecy thing with plots but it can be done well, but Brandon can do no wrong to me with these series so far (except for Lift).
-
I do agree with @maxal about not wanting to see Renarin on the battlefield, as he'd be too precious to lose, BUT that does make for a good argument.
-
Well, Brandon has a plan. For not being one of the flashback characters, I think Adolin has had a lot of screen time, especially in Words of Radiance. With the assassination of Sadeas, I can only imagine that he will be more important for a least a little bit. And as I said before, we haven't even seen Renarin's POV yet so we don't know what it will be like, I would think he talks a significant amount with Glys so we will see. The idea of him having visions of the future sounds really cool to me while reading his POV.
