  1. Adolin notes as they are approaching Lasting Integrity that they are near Tukar's reflection in Shadesmar. I didn't spot the connection to the mass of deadeyes, though.
  2. Yeah, I'd agree with this. If you imagine the suppression as blocking 9 surges, powered by Stormlight, then the exceptions we've seen (Kaladin, Lift, Venli) all seem to make sense. Reverse Lashing being possible frankly makes less sense to me, since it does use Gravitation. It's also unexplained why Cultivation would power one of Lift's surges with Lifelight instead of Stormlight, but not the other. Do we ever see Lift try and fail to heal using Stormlight from gems? That wouldn't be conclusive, since maybe her power is to convert Stormlight into Lifelight for Regrowth. I'm pretty sure we have seen her use food for both surges...
  3. Is this passage why you thought it could speak? I figured it was somewhat intelligent but more in a Ryshadium than a Chiri-Chiri kind of way, though not entirely sure how big a difference that is. I do forget whether Aviar behave this way. On the feathers point, I didn't put that down to anything super special. Have we seen Regrowth restore hair or other body appendages? If Regrowth can do that, then I guess you're implying kandra, since that would be a case where the feathers wouldn't be part of the body...
  4. yeah, the feast night is getting even more confusing now, with Axindweth there and apparently another set of Feruchemists that turned Gavilar against her, so probably at least one and maybe two more different groups/agents in the palace
  5. sorry, this should probably be in the cosmere board - could it be moved? I couldn't figure out how to delete and repost
  6. Lift has a red chicken that's prominent in her interlude and which she still has at the end of the book. The chicken was being hunted by Mraize's green chicken (Aviar?). Lift describes it: and Veil describes Mraize's: The chicken had some kind of homing or location sensing ability because it was able to find its owner's body. The owner is described: So my read on this is that this is a worldhopper Feruchemist, with his own Aviar? There is presumably something interesting about him else Mraize wouldn't be after him, and the rings point toward Feruchemy. He isn't described as looking particularly Terris but I assume that Feruchemy is more widespread at this point. Combined with Axindweth, there seems to be a much bigger Scadrian population floating around than we previously knew. It'll also be interesting to see what the red chicken's powers are, now that Lift has it. It's unclear how she got it back, but I'll assume that Mraize only caught her and not it when she was running.

Are you referring to when he kills the Pursuer? Is there any reason to think it isn't just the anti-Voidlight knife that Navani and Raboniel made?
  8. I don't think Zahel is shown on screen again after his chapter with Kaladin. Adolin mentions him to Kaladin when he leaves for Shadesmar and thinks of him in kata-related sequences, and Nightblood mentions him once in Szeth's interlude. I didn't find any mention of ardents specifically in Chapter 27 when the coalition armies leave. I still assume that's where he went, since it would seem that he'd be relevant otherwise during the tower occupation.
  9. So honestly I'm confused about who the fifth Group 1 character was meant to be. Szeth was not in the tower, which does leave Navani, Kaladin, Venli and Lift there. Was Teft meant to be number 5?
  10. Radiant is still there I think; not quite finished healing I don't think Zahel is shown again after his Kaladin chapter. I assumed he went with the expedition since you'd think he'd be relevant if he'd stayed at the tower Thaidakar gets described (cosmere spoilers):
  11. I'm fully into it now, so I might be reducing the amount that I write about each chapter. I-4. Vyre I don't like this at all. Kaladin fighting dream-visions is not exactly going to be pretty I-5. Lift So Lift also wasn't brought low by the pillar's inversion. And she did meet Cultivation. Her metabolism might even be cultivationlight? I am not sure how to figure out why she and Kaladin wern't affected. She has weird Cultivation things going on, but what is special about Kaladin? Is the green chicken Mraize's Aviar? What's the red one? So she can still kinda use Regrowth - is she somehow closer to higher ideals? Is Regrowth closer to Cultivation? I-6. A Boon and a Curse I wonder what it is about Renarin that produces the invisibility to Fortune. Sja-Anat did something right, it seems Brandon points more to Nightblood being mega OP I will understand, but feel bummed, if Taravangian doesn't get bopped. I know he won't, but he really has approached moash levels of ire. This chapter made me feel for him too much >:/ 44. Tinder Waiting for the Spark Spidey sense? What is it that's different about Kaladin? So this is going to have some sort of an insurgency feel to it, with Navani, Lift, Kaladin at the tower and the Sibling secretly helping them. What's confusing about this is that supposedly Szeth is with Dalinar still, but then it's unclear who the 5th POV/main character at the tower is supposed to be (4th is Venli). 45. A Bold Heart, A Keen and Crafty Mind Not much to say :/ Venli still unlikable though I know that's just her character 46. The Weight of the Tower sd 47. A Cage Forged of Spirits It's going to be a bad scene when they find out about Urithiru Nale grabbing the arrow from the air is totally nuts. What lets him do that??? Which Oathpact line is the one that is not broken? Taln's, I'm assuming Gave up notes :/
  12. 28. Heresies: Oh, I was not expecting the spanreed writer to be a spren. I was sure it was a Sleepless. True, it isn't confirmed yet, but the writing does point a lot more towards the spren theory than before, and probably Sja-Anat given the location. I don't understand what Navani is expecting by breaking the spanreed, though 29. A Cage Without Bars How would Jasnah know the expected distribution of gemstone quality?? We really need to understand more about deadeye mechanics this book - Adolin is definitely doing something along the lines of waking Maya up but there must be a reason that everyone thinks it is so impossible I have no idea how this Mraize box works, magically... New deadeyes? My feeling is that it isn't from new radiants that we haven't seen, but i have no basis for any other method of creating deadeyes. 30. The Betrayal Goddamnit, Beryl is the spy? Not sure that feels very satisfying.. it just seems too obvious. I'm still expecting a double-fake somehow. It's still unclear what happened at the Recreance. Notum does not seem to make a promising case for the envoy 31. Daughter of Traitors Hoid is hoping to maintain Odium's prison? That is a more specific goal than I think we have explicitly known before Adhesion is the missing surge for the Fused, then. Created only by Honor? Not sure how to process this. It does point to special roles for the Windrunners and the Bondsmiths, since they have Adhesion. Cohesion appears to be about mixing atoms together - will be interesting to see what the limits of this are. Raboniel describes Honor as a god of laws, which is an interesting take on oaths. Honor created the surges, to provide physical laws. Honor might be Tanavast's intent mixing with a Shard that might otherwise be called Order 32. Of Three Minds Man, Brandon is really able to match the epigraphs to the chapters so well. I wonder how they measure Stormlight. What's the unit? Adolin notes that gems go dun soon after dimming, which feels oddly nonlinear in a way that, e.g., a leaky bucket wouldn't be. 33. Understanding "There was more than one way to protect" - YES KAL Sad that Kaladin hasn't told Hesina everything yet. I guess that's a lot to ask but I hope that he realises that he can. He talks right here about needing to know that others understand and then immediately says that others don't understand him. Give them more credit, or at least a chance, buddy. 34. A Flame Never Extinguished This was just really cute. That's it. Oh, and the Ryshadium are totally some sort of honorspren spren horses attached to a body. Somehow. 35. The Strength of a Soldier Oh man. Adolin for the Stonewards 36. The Price of Honor I wasn't expecting that. Honestly, the sanderlanche is coming and I'm just trying to ride it. 37. Silence from the Dead The fused use the word ralkalest! (like the Rose Empire on Sel) 38. Rhythm of the Terrors Was the explosion a distraction to get Navani away? 39. Invasion SIBLING????? Why wasn't Kaladin affected like the other Radiants? Oh what? Adhesion not affected? I guess because that wasn't one of the ones that the tower was set up to negate? 40. In For All Oh man, this is not the position I wanted Navani to be in. Tshadr :((((((( 41. The Most Dangerous Venli's description of the Pursuer suggests that Shadows can influence/set their own Intent, which is intriguing Oh jeez. I'm gonna be up for a long time.
  13. Yes, it's definitely Harmony - the writer mentions being new to the role, Scadrial, and holding opposed powers.
  14. I wasn't sure if the Interludes go in the section for the Part they precede or follow, so I'm playing it safe and assuming the former. I-1: Sylphrena Skipping since we saw this already I-2: Sja-Anat The Everstorm appeared in Shadesmar before the stormform listeners? Perhaps as early as Gavilar's activities? Odium is "one of the three pure tones of Roshar", so the rhythms are post-Shard arrival? It seems like Rayse is really the hatred part of the shard, and the Intent is much closer to Passion I-3: Taravangian Danlan was a Diagram member! (I think scribe that Adolin courted once Which Unmade is in Shinovar? Taravangian seems to sincerely believe that Dova is Battah as he said to Dalinar, not Pailiah as some have theorised OH rust burning the Diagram A Portion of the Southern Sea of Souls These Nazh maps are confusing - looks to be annotated in the present day given mention of Adolin and Shallan, but the "strange storm" is suggestive of the Everstorm, which should already be passing through? What does he have of Khriss's? 20: The Unseen Court Only 20 Lightweavers so far, and interestingly different progression system The Stump made it here! What on earth is this nausea? Formless? Some external influence on Shallan? 21: The Seething Knot Adolin's fashion thing is feeling a eensy bit overdone Have we seen these Zahel discs before? Is Beryl the spy? This seems too obvious a plant to send her over Stargyle, but that makes me think it's a red herring... I think we'll all feel stupid if Ialai's killer was someone who hadn't even been named at the point of the assassination after how much we argued over it Oh come on, give us the name of the Iriali curse god! Felt's on board! Maybe we'll see some more about him What about the final truth is blocking Shallan from Soulcasting? Dalinar and Adolin have serious stuff to deal with... it's interesting this book so far how not having Dalinar POVs has made him seem markedly more frustrating than in OB Still unclear how they unlocked the Shadesmar travel 22. No Use Talking Nvm, it was the Stormfather. Interesting that the Oathgates were created by the Sibling as well; makes sense given their link to the tower Interesting that Urithiru looks like the highstorm - another Sibling parallel I'm not quite sure what to do with WTF Gallant's afterimages remind me of Szeth! Are Ryshadium cognitive shadows?? Why afterimages only in Shadesmar and not the Physical realm, if it's about imperfect mind-body attachment? <3 perambulatory Pattern Should we already know the Kasiden demonym? Maya's brushing feels very Cultivation 23. Binding Wounds TEFT I wanna cry 24. Full of Awe INVENTION?? What did Radiant do that she feels guilt for? I'm forgetting Shallan never told Adolin about the Soulcaster heist until now?? 25. Devotary of Mercy WHIMSY?? MERCY?? VALOR?? Lirin for Lightweaver? I think I'm really going to enjoy this Kaladin/Teft buddy cop act I'm glad Kaladin is becoming a therapist/mental health provider? Some Iroh "best way to help yourself is to help others" action 26. A Little Espionage How did Veil pick all of this espionage up? From Ishnah? And Radiant from Adolin? That'll be pretty crippling if they can't consolidate, and it also feels like a juggling act if they need to switch every time they need to do something.. what if they have to Lightweave and swordfight at the same time? 27. Banners Shades are something to do with the Spiritual realm?? Lightweaving won't stick to Nightblood's sheath - is this just because it's aluminium or Nightblood specific? I forget if we have seen this happen to anything else, but I could see Nightblood just sucking up Lightweavings I like that Brandon sometimes chooses to just craft a chapter around a particular motif. This one works well They really need to finish exploring the tower...
  15. Yep, I just got it. Reading it now! I didn't get the Kindle email until 21:12 PST, not sure when it became available exactly but I have it now
  16. The tower appears to be the primary plot, so I anticipate multiple conflicts there. A first foray as mentioned by Raboniel, but that won't be the big battle.
  17. He hadn't sworn oaths yet (he does two in a row at the top of Urithiru) but the Radiants all seem to subconsciously use Stormlight a bit even before swearing oaths. Kaladin did, and others like Ym and the Stump probably did.
  18. Fascinating that Navani makes it onto the back, and in prime position, no less. Very strong support for the idea that it was the Sleepless who sent the spanreed. She's the first non-Radiant to be mentioned by the Sleepless, and along with the epigraphs definitely seems to be priming fabrial technology as key to the plot and war. This is weird. It suggests that the Sleepless have been hiding something, but only Navani can actually make them real. What kind of secret is not true until she unmasks spies and delivers their secrets to the world? If it was some kind of truth or discovery about the nature of spren/gemstones, you wouldn't think its truth value depended on whether it was public. Perhaps "become truths" means "bring about"?
  19. How firmly do we know this? I only read the Syl interlude once and don't know much about the discussion around it, but as far as I could tell the situation in the interlude did not seem that different from the situation as it is right now (everyone is back at Urithiru, no signs of Fused attack). Couldn't that interlude be between Parts 1 and 2, which would not be a lot of chapters away? I guess I don't see him spending a lot of time elsewhere and he could be with the surgeons in the pretty near future, especially if he talks to his dad. Might not be where he ends up of course
  20. Ah, I had not remembered this. It's from WoK at a party (with Hatham, Dalinar, the ardent and the Natan). Importantly, I did not remember that Dalinar is a member of the Order of Talenelat (which is actually the reason that the point gets brought up). It does make a lot more sense that he would be especially familiar with the Herald he's in the devotary of, even if he wasn't very devout.
  21. I don't know if this is confirmed but Adolin's reaction definitely made me think Dalinar was already using Stormlight in the fight with Szeth.
  22. The passage does read a bit oddly, though. I suppose we don't really know what Vorin theology about the Heralds is but given that they are revered as divine, it does seem surprising that Dalinar knows Taln from the description. Dalinar knows: The Herald in question had never broken The Herald was never meant to join them, and was not a king, scholar or general He has a madman who claims to be Taln This is maybe enough to make the mental leap but it still seems like a long shot. Point 1 is the strongest, given the Vorin lore about Stonesinew, but point 2 references biography of the Heralds that the Vorins probably didn't know, and point 3 seems like isn't realised until a page later.
  23. If the Fused are Shadows made when the singers died, then my guesses as to why Odium would hesitate to make more are basically They cost Investiture that he doesn't want to expend (and this is finite in some sense) The current singers do not have military experience or experience with the Surges, so their Shadows wouldn't either. I suppose that raises the question of how he went about training the Fused to begin with... Open questions - did he make more in the intervening Desolations? My guess is no because they all seem to have a lot of history, and he wouldn't bring back mad ones if he could readily create more. Why does it take time for them to exit slumber and produce the trickle of Fused onto Roshar that we're seeing? Ok, that makes some sense to me. If they think that they can handle the remaining singer armies then they can reinstate the Oathpact and let the war play out. Unfortunately I did look through and find this: so reinstating the Oathpact is basically pointless now. Looks like the trapping in gems is where this is headed?
  24. What confuses me to some extent is that it is not clear how each Desolation ended. Presumably they should be trying to do that? I'm a little rusty on Desolation mechanics: If it was one/all of the Heralds dying and returning to Braize, why did they have to go through the whole Desolation before that could happen? The answer is the torture, but it doesn't make a ton of sense to me that the Heralds would break through torture, come back to Roshar for a short period of time (like <10 years I think) and then just be ready to get back to Braize. Was it that Fused could come to Roshar once, but would not be able to after one death until the next Desolation? The other thing that is different this time is the Everstorm, right? Which makes it so that the Fused don't have to go back to Braize and return but can get new bodies in the storm. On topic: I'd guess that they are still actively trying to figure out a permanent solution. That's what the investigations into the tower look like to me. In the meantime they still have to hold borders where possible.
