Is Eye Of The World boring?
Ammanas replied to Numuhukumakiaki'aialunamon's topic in The Wheel of Time
Most fans consider 1-4 to be Jordan’s best works. I’m talking about overall quality because his books that come afterwards have great moments, but a lot of slogging to get there. The fact that you are struggling with Eye does not bode well... -
The Best Day Many people consider the day the aliens invaded to be the end. I knew us humans have made a real mess of things and new leadership was required. I was one of the first to bend the knee to our new overlords and have been well rewarded. I consider it the best day.

The Labyrinth Everyone knows the stories of The Minotaur were only used to frighten children. That’s why she felt confident to enter the the labyrinth. So engrossed in the task that she almost missed the hot breath upon her neck and the gigantic figure that now loomed over.

My favorite episode is when Aang knows the Fire Lord has to go and everyone expects him to kill him so he consults with several of his pasts lives and asks for advice. I think the Ember Island spoof on all of their adventures was hilarious. Also one of the coolest parts of the Avatars abilities is talking to their past selves. But I found Korra series to be a pale imitation of the original. It lacks focus, direction, and has several pacing issues. It was worth it to watch once but I’ll probably not watch it again. Also wasn’t a fan of their attempt at Steampunk which the world transformed into over just one generation.

@Orlion the Platypus All excellent points! I just found it to be more of a rewarding experience with that background information. Plus the grey havens scene doesn’t make much sense without understanding the context. It’s certainly not critical though. Thanks for the response!

The songs don’t make much sense unless your aware of the events that happened in the Silmarillion. If you are aware of the context though I think they really enrich the story. Really though one needs to understand the first age of Middle Earth to understand the events in the third age.

@old aggie I think the issue is that it’s just we are do not typically think of the Valar and Maia in these terms. But he is correct. In the Tolkien Gateway website it mentions under Maia that, “The Maiar were Ainur — technically, any Ainu that is not counted as a Vala is a Maia.” http://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Maia Another way to look at it is The Valar as the greater Ainur and the Maiar as the lesser Ainur. Even though some Maiar seems to be getting close in power to the Valar. Hopefully I’m not beating a dead horse or making you feel bad. Just wanted to put my two cents in and give out a few links. The people at The Tolkien Gateway know more about this stuff than anyone in my opinion. It’s a great resource!

Legacy of Ash by Mathew Ward. I actually purchased this a while back but gave up on it after a while. I picked it up again today and am enjoying it now. It started to click for me and I’m already past the point where my first attempt ended I am still going strong!

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints corner

I try to help the Sister Missionaries out with the Zoom meeting when they hold them. Not many people show up to them and are willing to help them out. I’ve noticed that many people, including myself, have turned insular during all this. Hopefully that will change because our city is opening back up. Public parks open today. But I’m pretty sure I have the best bishop ever! He is always finding ways to serve during all this. He brought us over a delicious pizza that his neighbor cooks (whenever he needs extra money) in his special pizza oven, he has also done a “we miss you” parade for the kids in our war and drove out to every single ward members house. Also dropped off a General Conference kit that includes stuff for our child and (of course) snacks. I’m sure he (and his wife) is doing tons of other stuff I don’t know about. -
@Frustrationhaha he was making a joke! The book and movie he mentioned are much maligned and many people point to as arguably the worst that literature and film can produce.

That is a very good point. I am actually enjoying that aspect of Assail right now; a bunch of different parties are approaching the continent and you can feel the tension build. I guess I wasn’t in the right mindset my first time through because I am enjoying Assail much more this time around. The whole journey in Blood and Bone reminded me a lot of Apocalypse Now and Heart of Darkness. Both suffered from a anticlimactic ending, but I loved the nightmare journey to get there. The ending is almost inconsequential compared to the journey itself. I understand how it can be frustrating for most readers though.

Does everyone remember when Calvin decided not to study for the test and just let Stupendous Man take it instead? One of my favorites! I’ll post one of the last strips in this epic story to jog everyone’s memory

Rate the Signature Above You!!
Ammanas replied to Silverblade5's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
I think AonEne has already been done, but I like it! I changed my signature to include a cosmere reference. -
I can appreciate the movies, but I look at them more as action films and eye candy. I feel like the books were really trying to say something though. Things about mythology, sin, forgiveness, redemption etc. I feel like the books were much deeper and poignant than anything the movie could touch. Gimli's character in the movies was reduced to more of a comic relief and well...more of a simpleton. I may sound like I don't like the movies, but I actually really enjoy them for what they are. I just prefer the books.

which ebooks vendors are compatible with calibre??
Ammanas replied to Kimon's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I use kindle and buy everything from amazon so that usually keeps it simple. I’ve sent a few PDFs and Word documents to my kindle email to read on it and it automatically converts. To answer your question I found a website that you will probably find useful. Hope it helps! https://www.the-ebook-reader.com/ebook-formats.html -
I imagine the country (in the real world) that Jacaruku most closely imitates is Vietnam. With its vast jungles and how the people look like. Also how they live as well before French occupation and the Vietnam war etc.

Anything in particular the is causing you problems @Briar King? It is a little disorienting being thrown into a new land and with new characters but still a easier entry than the Ten main books in my opinion. If it helps if you like Kallor you will like this book. I don’t consider it a spoiler because it’s pretty obvious pretty early that it is him. Also there is quite a bit of Queen of Dreams. Just trying to stoke up some excitement for you . Let me know if you have any questions while everything is still fresh on my mind if initial confusion is causing you problems

It’s been awhile since anyone as commented on this thread, so please forgive the double post. Just finished my second time listening to Blood and Bone and a few thoughts. Great, great setting. Not enough jungle books in the fantasy genre. Loved the interaction between Golan and Thorn. That ending though...needlessly vague and frustrating. Not even Bill who ran the old Tor Malazan reread knew what was going on at the temple and with Osseric. One commentator though did get it right in my opinion. Full credit goes to him Is that how everyone else interpreted the events? Like I said it’s very vague and confusing. Blood and bone is still my second or third favorite of ICEs original six books. OST first and it switches places with Stonewielder.

Most major releases have all forms of the book available on the same day. There are of course exceptions for whatever reason but it would be a safe bet Stormlight 4 will be available the same day of the print versions. I have preordered it from audible and it looks like they are confident as well assuming nothing crazy happens like Michael Kramer being unable to speak for a few months.

The Adventures of Pete and Pete. Evidently they are all available on YouTube. I used to watch this show a lot when I was a kid in the 90s. Back in those days you just had to tune in everyday and hope you got a new episode. It’s such a crazy show and I’m still entertained by it now watching it with adult eyes. It has to be one of the greatest children shows of all time. The greatest being (in my opinion) Avatar: The last airbender.

@Benghis son son Kahn It is possible but there are quite a few nods and references to the original trilogy. You will not be lost but it will not be as fulfilling as if you had read the original three. I just found his original books a little bit raw but certainly readable. His prose is really similar to Sanderson so there is a good chance you will like it. I would recommend starting with The Promise of Blood rather than jumping into Sins of empire

If you feel like Lightbringer lost it’s way than I do not recommend WoT. It gets lost in pointless plot lines and and tangents far far more anything Brent Weeks has. I’m actually a fan of Lightbringer though so perhaps we have different tastes Never could get into Marc Lawrence’s stuff. His prose didn’t work for me. Powder Mage was alright but I enjoyed his sequel series set in the same world much more so he improves. Licanius trilogy gets lots of love around here but I am personally not a fan. Many would disagree with me though. The lighthearted 80’s(ish) eary 90s fantasy he is telling is told by better authors in my opinion. The Ember Blade by Wooding right off the top of my head. Never read Rage of Dragons. First Law is excellent if you are not opposed to cursing and some graphic scenes. I mention this because there are a lot of young readers on this website. Lastly you might want to start a new thread on the entertainment section of this website that asks these sort of question so this current thread doesn’t get too off tract. Although I’m guilty of small tangents myself on this page from time to time. Also Welcome! Edit: You seem to like really focused fantasy series. You might like the first three Black Company books by Glen Cook. I personally have read and liked all of them but the first three are really focused

Has anyone seen the three animated tv shows Resistance, Rebels and Clone Wars? Do you like them? Which one is the best in your opinion? I’ve only seen the movies and don’t know which one is considered the best by fans.
