Alright finished Deadhouse Landing and I was very much impressed. The reader gets to see the origins of so many things including the Bridgeburners! I am now all in with this series and can't wait for the next one!

If it makes you feel any better I hardly dated until I met my wife. No sense in wasting your time on relationships if it isn't the right time or you don't see it going anywhere.

A blogger I check up on occasionally released a new malazan reading order. I agree with it for rereading purposes. I still think the best way to read it, for first time readers, is Erikson 1-10, Path to Ascendancy series, Night of Knives-Assail, and then the Kharkanus books. Anyways here is his link. http://thewertzone.blogspot.com/2017/11/a-better-malazan-reading-order.html?m=1

Oathbringer Audio Book: What To do While Listening?

Taking long walks, jogging, driving to and from work, and chores -
Just started Deadhouse Landing. So much fun to see how the gang got together! There are more p.o.v's than Dancers Lament, but still less than than a typical malazan novel. There are tons of references to Erikson's main series and I am only 50 pages into it! I don't think we ever got a clear explanation of D'Rek in previous books and it already gets a pretty clear explanation of that god and religion.

@little wilson Sorry to hear of your trials; hopefully life will settle down soon and these trials will forge you into a better version of yourself. Have you tried partaking of some Nutella? That might make you feel better -
A friend of mine posted this picture elsewhere. I am both horrified and strangely intrigued what it is like.

What part of the Midwest are you from? I spent a couple of years in south central Illinois and loved the people and culture I hope to be able to move back to the Midwest (Nebraska this time) next summer.

I don't really understand the big secrecy. You would think they would include this sort of stuff in a closing chapter within the WOT encyclopedia that came out recently.

There's a dignity in consequences. I think there's a kind of truth in them, and I try to cultivate a profound respect for truth

Welcome! I am also from Texas (lived my first 21 years there) and I love everything about that state. I am currently living in Colorado because my wife cannot handle heat and she wanted to live close to her family; I will always be a Texan though! This site is a great place discuss theories and I have found the other people on the site very helpful, polite and welcoming.

@NamelessThirteenth The Alchemy Index (album) by Thrice Hazards of Love (album)by The Decemberists Stay what you are (album) by Saves the Day Hammock (name of a band that plays all instrumental) I recommend either the album Departure Songs or Raising your voice trying to catch a echo.

From Brandon Sanderson: u/mistborn • Sep 29, 2017, 2:19 PM We were getting a lot of feedback that the old fond looked...gimmicky and outdated. The publisher came to us and suggested a change, I believe, but we'd been talking about it in house here too. The more we looked at the new book with the old font, the more we agreed. Somehow, it worked for TWOK but just didn't for Oathbringer. I realized that some would like the old font, but gave the go ahead to change anyway. At some point, a font that drew that much attention to itself was going to become a millstone around our necks. We decided to change sooner rather than being dissatisfied for years. (Sorry.) From Peter: So, this was a matter of much internal discussion between Dragonsteel and Tor. It basically comes down to legibility. The old font is just not very legible. If you don't already know what it says, you have to stop for a few seconds to figure out what it says. If you're looking from a distance, Words of Radiance looks sort of like Wobos of Bhoihnce. After Tor spent some time tweaking the letter shapes on Oathbringer to try to make it more legible, and really didn't get anywhere (it kept ending up looking basically the same), they floated the idea of just doing a redesign. We at Dragonsteel agreed this was the best time to do that if it was going to be done. They tried quite a few different fonts, and the one they ended up with was one they had actually proposed to use for Brandon's name. We said keep Brandon's name the same, but try that font on the title. It's not just a standard like Times New Roman; the shapes of the letters have interesting little touches with the serifs and whatnot. No, it's not an "awesome" font like was used previously, but it's a lot more legible for books sitting on the shelf and possibly catching someone's eye when they're walking past. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.reddit.com/r/brandonsanderson/comments/739dni/new_title_font_for_stormlight_archive/

So this thread might be a good one for the administrators to sticky, but the purpose is to ask fellow sharders about a book or series that they are interested in and see if anyone can vouch for them. I will start with my query about the Fatemarked series by David Estes. It is a series that looks really good, but the reviews seemed...suspicious. I just saw a review on SFF world that said it was good and that is a reputable site. I was wondering if anyone here has read it and what they liked or didn't like about it.

Yes, I typed the wrong thing. Thanks for the correction!

I guess my question would be that Erikson has stated, in past interviews, that the 10 book malazan series was inspired by the Iliad and the Kharkanus book were inspired by Shakespeare; then what will be inspiration behind the Karsa books?

I didn't like the Elantris narrator at first, but he really grew on me. Michael Krammer narrated a version of Warbringer, but you havr to be legally deaf to get a copy.

@AngelEy3 Now I will have to see Winter Soldier now! I think I saw a few superhero movies in a row that didn't appeal to me and I kind of gave up on the genre. I might have to revisit some of the ones that came out in the last couple of years.

Just got done watching Thor Ragnarok. I had a absolute blast watching it! I usually get bored with super hero movies because we all know the good guys will win and the movie usually follows a predictable plot and has a lot of explosions. There were so many twists and turns and really funny moments. I will certainly be buying it when it comes out on DVD.

@NamelessThirteenth This may be longer and more in depth than what you are looking for, but here is my suggestion: https://www.tor.com/series/malazan-reread-of-the-fallen/

I loved the Ellista interlude! It was so funny her reading and reacting to the Jane Austen of Roshar. I loved in the same interlude, as someone already pointed out, when Ardent Urv responds, "Sequels always have to bigger." Each Stormlight book has been longer than the previous one!

Hell hath no fury like a upset Sanderson fan. I'm sure they were bombarded with angry phone calls.

I preordered Deadhouse Landing to support the author (after the impressive Dancers Lament) but have a few other things to get to before I start. I am looking forward to it though!
