While I'm still in favor of "The Mighty Lopen" Kaladin could potentially carry the Honorblade and Syl as a Shardspear together which was actually done according historical sources, and we know how Brandon loves to add realistic elements to his stories. Below is an image of a two norse warriors, one holding a spear and drawing a sword, and the other wielding two spears, with yet another sword on his hip (I can barely comprehend how this would be a legitimate fighting style, definitely chaotic, but it must have had potential if someone actually took the time to document it in multiple areas): As for additional benefits of carrying an Honorblade, and having a Nahel bond of the same surges, my guess would be that less Stormlight would be required, and so more powerful surgebindings can be used with much less effort/spheres, plus you have two weapons with the ability to cut through basically anything, which is always an advantage. Now to combat what I just said with a single query: Is there more potential in a single individual carrying two weapons of this caliber, with surgebinding(overlapping abilities, or up to a total of 4 different surges), in two individuals, each with their own weapon and surges? For my personal thought on the matter, I think it's better to have two separate warriors, especially in the case of having 4 surges, because the more powers one has access to, the less time one can spend perfecting any one of your abilities. Many of the Mistings from the Mistborn series are perfect examples of this, such as Breeze, or Spook, who were by far more powerful than any Mistborn with their abilities(yes, I know these were not as useful in a combative situation, but this is merely an example of skill mastery, and I'm also not including the use of Duralumin, since that skews everything, making even exceptionally weak mistborn insanely powerful when burning any metal). Another reason, is that, on the battlefield, it would probably be better to have two people able to carve a path through the enemy, rather than just one who can do it more efficiently. Still, who could possibly deny that it would be totally EPIC if it was dual wielded by a Radiant?

Why do Truthless exist? (Potential WoR spoilers)
Zeldan replied to Faceless Mist-Wraith's topic in Stormlight Archive
I see it going one our two ways. One, they don't accept them and declare them heretics or truthless, or two, they accept them for what they are, rescind their sentence on Szeth, and have those who wield the Honorblades train the new Radiants in surgebinding. -

@Radiant_Jaeger I've always been a big fan of sentient objects, with sentient swords being my favorite variety. It's going to be awesome! -

This might be possible if they come to reclaim the Honorblade held by Nale, however this is assuming the Shin know he has it for one, and that he has it against their will for two, which would make Szeth a prime target. In any other case, I think they'll be more likely to go after the Honorblade Szeth lost in his fight with Kaladin, making whoever is chosen to wield it to be the target. I think this would be a much better confrontation as well, as there are more individuals with more varied surges among the Alethi(that we know of all gathered together), which would be very much like a Captain America: Civil War smack down! -

But that's still inferring a little too far to call absolute. Szeth merely state that these were two things that he could/would not do, but it doesn't automatically mean the reason is the same for both situations. -

That's kinda what I was getting at, but I didn't really explain myself properly. I think they will come for it more likely than not, although I do not know whether or not it will be in Oathbringer or the book after. I would expect it to be in Oathbringer, but I'm unsure whether the Shin would be quick to act, or wait before they come to claim it, and even if they do, I wonder if they will even take it back when they come to Alethkar, only to find a new order branded as the Knights Radiant, wielding the powers of the old order. Will they accept them for what they are, or will they brand them Heretics as well... I'm pretty sure Dalinar is always referred to as the stronger, more skillful of the two brothers with Shardplate and Blade. After all, Dalinar was the one who became known as "The Blackthorn". I don't know who will get the Honorblade. The Stormfather was very clear that Dalinar would not be allowed any shards, however we don't no if the Honorblades would be considered a shard from the Stormfather's perspective or not. At the moment, I'm gonna say that he's not the one who wields it. My guess, is that they will give it to one of Kaladin's men(perhaps the Mighty Lopen! it would make sense, considering he'll never be able to wear appropriate shardplate with his missing arm, and the blade doesn't work as effectively with plate anyways, plus it will bring him up to par, and beyond, with other fighters, where he's been at a disadvantage), or someone deemed honorable by Dalinar. Not much point in giving it to Renarin, as he is now a Radiant, and Adolin seems to do well with his combined Shardplate and Shardblade, but I'm not sure how well he would do if he had to forgo the plate for the power advantages of the Honorblade. He's been practicing with these his whole life, so in my opinion, it would be best if he stuck to what he was good at. -

I agree. I think Szeth probably believes the Shin can reclaim the blades because(going along with previous theory) there are others among the Shin currently holding the remaining Honorblades. -

I like this theory. It makes sense that Szeth's beliefs regarding the Radiants would be considered heresy, leading him to become a heretic, or "Truthless". As for why he has an Honorblade, I think that the Shin might pass ownership of the blades to individuals at the top of their religious hierarchy for safekeeping, and are likely expected to keep them for life. It is possible that Szeth was a highly educated Shin shaman, or at least something of equivalent note, and was given this responsibility, and that his studies later lead him to the discovering the return of the Radiants. This would also explain his skill with the blade, as he would likely have had access to it's powers for quite some time before he became Truthless. I highly doubt that a simple soldier would have discovered the Radiants return off the bat, with no formal education of these sorts of matters, without having gained the powers himself, and he doesn't have a Nahel bond as far as we know, and no hints have been dropped that he has a spren following him around all this time. I suppose that it is possible that he was one, and that he came across someone else with these powers, but I think that's stretching it a little bit personally. If he was a soldier, how would he have received the Honorblade? If one was given to every fool who spouted heretical teachings, I'm sure they'd run out very quickly, even in a devout society, which is why I'm in favor of him having it in his possession before he becomes Truthless, and based on this, I find it more likely that something like the Honorblades would hold great spiritual value to the Shin, and therefore be more likely to be bestowed upon someone within the clergy. Considering this is all theory though, my own thoughts included, it's all good fun, and I love all the perspectives! -

I agree, he most likely did think that he was correct about the return of the Radiants. I also think it does a great job of revealing how he values life vs. the soul, and this is likely a reflection of the Shin as a people as well, although Szeth may very well be the pinnacle of this mindset, considering how far he was willing to go to uphold his faith and save his soul. -
Why do Truthless exist? (Potential WoR spoilers)
Zeldan replied to Faceless Mist-Wraith's topic in Stormlight Archive
You have to keep in mind that these people would have been brought up being taught how horrible these type of actions were, to the point where they would rather die, soul included, than commit these actions themselves(again this is purely speculation, as there has been very little information given about the Shin, but I personally get the impression they are very devout people). It basically puts them in a situation where they would have to renounce everything that they believe, or commit suicide, which I think is a rather effective punishment. The stone itself has no power, and so, if they renounce everything, then they will have no reason to obey someones orders, and will then simply live in exile. Either way, the individual is removed from the society. -

Zeldan replied to Faceless Mist-Wraith's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think there is a much deeper religious element to this punishment. As mentioned by Pagerunner, he is a heretic, and so, I think his punishment would be similar to that of a heretic in our world: Excommunication. For those who are unfamiliar, Excommunication is essentially the same as being damned to hell, before you die. There is a passage, although I can't remember exactly where it is(if someone knows where it is, I'd appreciate it if you would post it here), where Szeth mentions that he would rather have his soul survive in eternal torment than for it to be destroyed, which is why he does not kill himself(I'm assuming that he would meet the same result if he decided to quit obeying the holder of his stone). and so, based on this, they essentially gave him only two options: Destroy his own soul, or live a life committing every atrocious act that he was raised to abhor, and still be eternally damned. My guess is that he is probably the first and only Truthless to decide to keep living, at least for this long before deciding to kill themselves, which is not what the Shin expected of him when they pronounced judgement. This is just my thought on the matter. -
What I think he means is then it's going to be a lot less Earth-centric, not necessarily exact races, or government bodies, although I expect we will come into contact with a few of them, even if they are not contained in the trailer.

How did the Stone Shamans recover the honorblades?
Zeldan replied to soulcastJam's topic in Stormlight Archive
Either Brandon made a mistake, or he gave away a very interesting detail...Szeth might have a Dawnshard...(I'm leaning towards a mistake, although this would be really interesting if it's true)- 7 replies

Well, everything is leading up to the Infinity War, so this movie will have to incorporate some elements of the Guardians of the Galaxy, in order to show this transition. Besides, Guardians of the Galaxy was an awesome movie, can't wait to see the second one.

I thought it might be, but I never memorized the lines for the old tongue.

Just watched it this morning, and I love it! Can't wait for it to come out, it looks amazing! My prediction, epic Gladiator Fight! Well that's probably a given, but still. Favorite part, "He's a friend from work" lol. Here is the trailer, Just out of curiosity, and totally unrelated, is your username in reference to Captain Bayle Domon from the Wheel of Time?

I'd say Prof, even though I haven't read the Reckoners yet, just because I don't really think that Marsh really played the role of a mentor to Vin very much, other than maybe a few quick exchanges in the first book, which were more information based, not the type of conversations between teacher and student/father and daughter, and he never really connects with her. Her real mentors were Kelsier, and Sazed from what I can see.

I like to read, write, sketch, and play video games. Unfortunately, I'm a bit of a perfectionist, and I need motivation, so if I make small errors, or if people don't tell me my work is good often enough, I tend to drop whatever it is I'm working on out of frustration, and then play video games for hours, which means I don't get much done lol. I've got a massive story in my head, but every time I decide to sit down and write something, I always think of something better for the overall story, and end up having to scrap several pages of hard work. If I ever do finish writing this book, I'll probably be sixty lol. When it comes to sketching, I've had no formal training, so I make a lot of mistakes here, but I think I could be good if I put more effort into it, and maybe took class. Maybe one day...

I don't know, I never really fit into any one character in any book it seems. I guess I'll say that I'm a cross of Dalinar Kholin, and Shallan as I fancy myself a sarcastic, sometimes artistic, scholar, and other times a rigid conservative, especially where morality is concerned. Regulations I'm more open to breaking if I do not find the reason for them to be adequate. That being said, I'm also highly unmotivated, so I guess I'm not like either of them at all lol. My personality tends to change based on the situation. My official type is INTP, so anybody have any suggestions lol? And don't say Elend, he's been used to much already lol.

The end of the Mistborn Trilogy stole one of my ideas too lol, but I won't spoil it for you, because it's really good. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of his titles, they're all awesome!

You will never be loved by everyone, so don't try to be. Just be yourself, and people who would genuinely like you will naturally gravitate towards you, and you'll naturally repel those who you would not have a connection with without being fake. Pursue your interests, pickup a hobby that you always wanted to try. Simply be your best self, and the people who matter will love you for it. I myself have very few friends, but they are very close to me, and are more valuable for it. You should always strive to make yourself happy first. As selfish as this may seem, keep in mind that a happier you will result in an individual more capable, and willing to help others(obviously, you can take this to the extreme and become a selfish bastard, but I'm not referring to that degree of self-love). On the other hand, if you're going into politics, read the demographics of the population, find the thing that binds them together as a community, and become that thing. This will likely mean that you have to change yourself, or to put on a mask. If you are willing to do this, you can become loved by the majority, but never the whole. Also, make sure that once you pick a side of any given argument, be sure to stick to it, else your supporters will spot you for the fake you are. These same tactics can be used to become popular within small groups of people, but tend to result in very shallow, weak, and often volatile relationships, so I don't recommend them for such use. You have obviously never held the door open for an extreme feminist... Negative emotions can be seen as beneficial as the drive us to make right what is wrong with our world, therefore imply that Happiness is a non-progressive emotion however one should not disregard the value of Happiness based on this logic as it is the indicator that we have achieved momentary perfection within our own lives, and while it may be fleeting, it proves that it is obtainable.

What if Nahel Bonds can only be formed with the help of any one of these four surges: Adhesion(Bondsmiths, and Windrunners), Progression(Edgedancers, and Truthwatchers), Transformation(Lightweavers, and Elsecallers), and Cohesion(Stonewards, and Willshapers), and Gravitation(Windrunners and Skybreakers), because each of these traits incorporates the basic idea of making something new, or merging, or binding, etc. If you notice, only one order of the Radiants does not have any one of these surges, and therefore would be unable to form a bond on their own: the Dustbringers. What if the Dustbringers actually have artificially engineered Nahel Bonds................
