  1. Talking about size with a black hole is fraught with peril. There are two types of black holes -- the ones we are sure exist formed from collapsing stars and ones smaller than protons called quantum black holes that may or may not exist and disappear almost as soon as being created (billionths of a second), so unusable for this assuming they exist. The regular type of black hole would begin consuming the planet, even if it starts off so small we could not see it.
  2. I'm just trying to figure out how collapsing space/time does not destroy the planet in the process. A wormhole has two end points, so you would need a singularity on both sides. Or is the theory that the mass is not enough to be disruptive to the planet?
  3. Your drawings are becoming my headcannon for the characters! Great stuff!!
  4. No, that is highly dependent on the circumstances and the society/culture. For example, do you think a hitman for the mob that successfully pulls off a hit is being judged harshly by his organization?
  5. Are you assuming Sebarial will be paying her forever? Because if she loses that money then that's it for her family. They will be worse off than the elite darkeyed merchants. Or completely beholden to the Ghostbloods. Being a highprincess (is that the right term?) means money and status. You do remember that she's not actually related to Sebarial, right? I don't think she will want to assume it will be there. Arguably her family is in far more desperate straights than ever before. I really do not get how you can miss these problems or the possibilities a marriage to Adolin would still bring (assuming he's not e.g. exiled). The reason people don't think she's going to Odium's side is because every shred of evidence we have points to her fighting to prevent that. I couldn't care less if she killed them in cold blood -- it was a calculated choice against some worthless thugs that the local authorities were either ignoring because they were not killing someone important enough or would have been caught and executed in a few more more weeks. And we already saw the ramifications to it -- Shallan arguably loses some respect for Jasnah and steals the fake soulcaster that night. We have no reason to expect more to come out of this. Adolin kills a highprince, and we still do not know the ramifications, and we know they could be big. More to the point, he snapped, which if nothing else raises the possibility he could snap again. The whole situation would imo be easier if he had done it in cold blood insteed of snapping. That's the wild card that sparks discussions. If Jasnah had had Sadeas assassinated we would just see it as long overdue. Brandon himself has said that some of the KR orders would not have any problem with what Adolin did. I'm not even sure how Kal will feel about it, especially if Adolin sought him out for advice before (if) it became public knowledge. I doubt he would be thrilled about it, but Kal also knows a ton of the history with Sadeas, and he might see it as a "kill to protect" scenario. Kal ultimately decides to protect Elokhar because 1) he is Dalinar's Tien and 2) he is trying to be a good king. There's no question Sadea's motives are purely selfish and dangerous. I think Kal would be disappointed in Adolin, but I do not think he would be outraged. The reason why we wonder if Adolin could become an agent of Odium (even if it seems unlikely) but not Jasnah is because Adolin snapped while Jasnah did something cold and calculated that is "acceptable" in a darker setting like SA. Losing control like Adolin did is rarely looked up on favorably regardless of the setting or IRL.
  6. Wouldn't this destroy the planet?
  7. Worth noting that in D&D the chromatic dragons were evil and the metallic dragons were good. This was highlighted in DragonLance. Could have been an influence, and metal can obviously reflect light very well. Silvers are particularly interested in the affairs of the lesser races (humans, elves, etc.). DragonLance spoiler Some of the best dragon artwork came out of the DragonLance, especially Larry Elmore's paintings. http://www.larryelmore.com/store/?search=dragonlance
  8. Pretty sure it's been WoBs. Maybe some of the unpublished stuff too?
  9. He's driven at this point. Maybe to an unhealthy extent, but it's hard to say with all the magical stuff going on it's hard to say what's unhealthy -- e.g. leave Odium alone so he can wipe the other shards out or do your best to intervene doesn't seem so extreme.
  10. That doesn't change they lost the estate, etc. They are dependent on Sebarial and/or the Ghostbloods at this point. The only thing in their favor is coming end of the world may open up possibilities such as claiming new land or eliminating those that would make claims (e.g. damnation shame those armies were caught in the everstorm and wiped out....). Not "saved" by any means. No need to put words in people's mouths. Jasnah because the ramifications were minor -- slight power struggle in the underworld at worst unlike the potential ramifications related to Sadeas. And Szeth is so obvious there's much less to discuss. Also, there's a certain passionate fan on the forums here that will write significantly more when Adolin is involved, which naturally sparks more conversation and debate.
  11. Information related to the newly released Oathbringer chapter should be in spoiler tags. Or update the thread title to indicate Oathbringer spoilers! Outbringer Kaladin Chapter Spoilers
  12. Metals taken in the morning would surely be absorbed into the system by nightfall (to some degree). Much sooner, especially if taken on an empty stomach. Brandon is either glossing over the details or Kelsier does not fully understand. It's also not clear to me if "stomach" means the actual organ or is being used more loosely to refer to the digestive system, which would imo make more sense. Most heavy metals build up over time, so it will be harder to find the absorption rates we are looking for. It's also the intestines that do the absorbing. My gut (pun indented) feeling is Brandon is glossing over the details here.
  13. In Alethi eyes there is probably a big difference between doing it yourself and hiring an assassin. Speaking of that, I suppose pinning the murder on one of the conspiracies/secret societies could be a possibility. Where was Amaram at the time....?
  14. I'm pretty sure that was Pattern's doing. Shallan sent him over to help Renarin, and we've seen him play mind games with voices before. Only proto-KRs can even hear the screams, and we have no reason to believe those 4 dueling Adolin are proto-KRs.
  15. Most medicines are absorbed into the body faster than that. But even with the 4 to 5 hours number, that would suggest she would never have any luck after sleeping, assuming she slept for 6 or more hours. You would think she might make the connection eventually. If it can build up in her system then it would much harder to figure out.
  16. Presuably they need to have schools to teach them e.g. Alethi, how to do various tasks in the correct way, etc. as well. A breeding farm may just not work well.
  17. How have they been saved?! The family is completely destitute minus Shallan's income from Uncle Sebarial. And being controlled by the Ghostbloods is arguably worse than being controlled be the Kholins. I think we will need to see how this plays out before drawing that conclusion, and that leaves the marriage on the table. Jasnah is part of the Kholin family and look how independant she is -- I think Shallan could manage. I think Shallan could go either way with Sadeas. For example, she could see Adolin as protecting his family. And given all the trouble Sadeas has caused including trying to get Dalinar killed by intentionally abandoning him on the battlefield Sadeas may remind her of her father (in a more general sense). They could certainly stir up trouble with those hostile to Dalinar, but they may be shifting focus now that the Everstorm has hit. It could possibly go the other way -- they may want to (maybe form the shadows) support the KRs. It's one thing to try and pull off everything they wanted to before the Everstorm hit, but it's another to continue with that tactic afterwards. Edit: Also, they may decide they need to get closer to the KRs, and prioritize that.
  18. "Hack" implies doing something to make it work. Compounding "just works" so I wouldn't call it a hack. If a Returned on Roshar can just absorb Stormlight instead of Breaths then I would not consider that a hack either.
  19. Good point about a false lead.
  20. Nearest Oathgate is probably Kholinar? And would you trek there without knowing how bad off it is? That's assuming they can get there before the next Everstrom passes through -- they have to assume it will hit again until they know otherwise. So more likely they fortify up. If Kaladin can get enough Stormlight, he could fly ahead to Kholinar to check on it. IIRC, Kaladin knows Dalinar has not heard back from Kholinar, so even though he doesn't know about the riots, he knows something was up before the Everstorm hit them.
  21. That could explain why Brandon rarely talks about Adolin.
  22. Wait, so Evil Librarians are Voidbringers?!?
  23. I agree. The problem is why is Shallan still alive? If her mother was not a major player then maybe they just never followed up on it. But if she brought in help... Just seems odd no one followed up on what happened. Well, from any organization, now that I think about it. Yeah, something seems off about it.
  24. Yeah, it's clear. The new Oathbringer chapter just released is specifically about Kaladin heading back to Hearthstone.
  25. Well, Hoid's question to Dalinar seems to suggest the intents were there. Another possibility -- since Frost believes Adonalsium knew what was coming is that he created or chose the 16 intents that we ended up with.
