Yeah, all the Twitter contests are like that. You need to be sub ready, with your query letter all shined up, too. But you still have a week! Get to edits!

REcon: Looks like 2019 Dublin is the winner! Start saving now! Pitch contests coming up-- for those interested, there are two coming up very soon: #SFFPit (just for science fiction and fantasy, so right up our alley) #NLAPitch (specific to one agency, but looks fun!) both have different posting guidelines and different ways to write your genre tag, so be sure to pay attention. I'm considering participating in one or both of them, if I can get TWD in shape in time. Anyone else coming?

For the super nerdy, it's an old Russian shuttle from the 70s. I'm planning on having all three ships made, one for each book. So ASD will have the Lucidity, and ATD will have a settee.

Minutia of publishing update-- slogging through second round editor edits on ASD. I forgot how many things need fixing in early edits. Send whiskey. In other news, I maybe had enamel pins made of everyone's favorite ship...

I can work with that! Excellent. Hrm. I wonder how much of this is description fatigue and how much is lack of story familiarity. Guilds and their work are a sizable portion of the story, and it is very in character for S to notice these things. I'll have another read through and see if I can tighten it up. This is a very good point. Going in to fix it now. This was partially dealt with in an earlier chapter but you're right, it would have made sense to ask for fresh ones. Editing. Thank you so much for reading! Welcome back! Good call! Yay! The chapter right after this keeps up with the gut punching, so I'll be curious to see how you feel about that chapter as well. Thank you!!

Wow, how far behind am I? Catching up! It is tortured, isn't it? I'll play around with better words. Edited Good call, good call. Er, yes? Yes this! One can only take so much before something has to give. Unfortunately, the next chapter doesn't have it give in a great way. Thank you so much for the comments! Solid. Editing. Thank you! It's hard to throw off what you've worked your whole life towards. Thank you, as always, for the comments!

S for foreplay. Specifically in this chapter I am interested in knowing if S’s explanations make sense to you, and if you understand where the frustration is stemming from.

For sure!

Calling @Silk and @industrialistDragon for the poll above. Dublin 2019 is currently in the lead but your vote matters still!
-
I'd like to sub on Monday, and hopefully there will be some readers around!
-
A teeny tiny one. But hey, it's something!

Ahh, I see. So it's a 2018 versus 2019. This forum needs a poll option. Let's do it the hard way. Copy paste with an x for your preference. ___ WorldCon 2018 San Jose, California ___ WorldCon 2019 Dublin ___ Both, cause why not?
-
Really? Cool! I studied abroad in Limerick! So, are we debating WorldCon versus Dublin? Was there something going on in Dublin, or is it just cool? In writing related news--remember that flash fiction piece I posted for crit in the short fiction thread? It got accepted into the anthology!
-
Hmm, what do you think @Robinski? Would you hop the pond for WorldCon?
-
I'm brainstorming hard on this RECon (REcon?) thing. What if we pushed it two years out? Would that give everyone time to save? Where would be the best 'central' location, since we have members flung throughout Europe and the Americas? Brainstorm, people!

Not me. I've been out with strep throat for the whole of the week. I'm going to keep laying in bed and trying not to die.
-
Oooh! Looks like I might need to learn French.

Robinski - 170522 - TMM, Chapters 31-32-33 - 6429 words (LV)
kais replied to Robinski's topic in Reading Excuses
I can't believe this is the last chapter! Overall The ending was satisfying, but I got lost on the way there. I'm not sure what happened in the battle scene. I think likely it just needs some polishing and some blocking work. I think I could have been very satisfied with the entire thing, had I been able to more closely follow the action. As I go - I'd like more from Moth in that opening segment. We only get these brief glimpses of her, and to make the book really work I think there needs to be a decent balance between her and Quirk. - This thought: Clearly he didn’t like her, was annoyed by her constant presence, frustrated and generally wound up seems out of character for Moth. Sounds more like it came from Quirk. - the first chapter is confusing to me. A lot of falling that I can't quite seem to wrap my brain around. Falling and fighting? Some of both? A respite in between? I think just some general cleanup would work here. - I don't understand this line: There had been times recently she wished she’d been able to do this. - LOL at the 'Quack's!! - page 290: I'm confused. Is Quirk directing Callan's droid to attach the soldiers?? Or wait, are they in the same droid? - pretty sure you mean private detective in a coma, not comma - unwound her scarF, not scar - so.... he only needed one dose of her spit? Confused here too - LOL! I love Moth's interaction with her new droid! - I think for the ending we need like one more good line or two between Quirk and Moth, to really tie it all up in a bow - so... how did Quirk survive and not Callan? Maybe something you could put in was how Quirk's consciousness kept slipping back into his body accidentally, so he knew he could 'find home' if needed, but Callan had no such body to return to? -
So, this is definitely happening now, right? 2018? Canada? Eh eh?

TWD may be skewing more dark fairy tale than dark fantasy. Unsure at this point. Anyway, here is the final glacier installment! Edit: whoops, sorry everyone! Forgot there was a kissing scene in here. S* for kissing and some mention of breasts.

Unofficial RE meetup that doesn't involve a boat? COUNT ME IN!
-
Clearly we need to have a meet up in Canada, since everyone seems to be going there. I used to live in Toronto, I know all the good dive bars!
-
Are we still subbing? Yes? If so, me me, pick me!

Heeeeey everyone! I've been in contact with Chaos and Silk these past few weeks, having good chats and whatnot. I've had some time to cool off and recuperate my 'spoons'. I've asked to be put back on the mailing list and I'm ready to emerge back on the boards again as well. With that said, I do think the lounge is a nice place to have, because as @Hobbit said, there really is no off-topic in writing, since the world informs our work. I thought a fresh slate might be in order, so to speak. SO... WELCOME TO LOUNGE II. Herein we can discuss writing related and writing tangential things, and anything else that doesn't have a topic home (while still being sensitive to the marginalizations of others). To kick things off, I'll start. *deep breath* I sent ATD to my editor this week! Eeeee! I also got accepted as a supporting author at GayRomLit and finished drafting TWD. Whew! I also, somehow, miraculously, made it to season 12 of Writing Excuses so I now feel marginally caught up with the rest of you. Anyway, that's me. Now please fill me in on what I've missed here!

In the effort of full disclosure, I am still around for the time being, and having conversations with Chaos. Anyone is welcome to PM me if they want to chat.
