If you have that WOB I'd like to see it because I've never heard that before, and I'm doubtful about the whole one desolation per herald thing until I do see it. And you are right about there being uncertainty, though I was addressing the idea that all the unmade came into being post oathpact. I was also curious about this WoB that lots of people are mentioning. So for any others who want the direct source, here ya go!

Maybe the epigraphs are written by a KR after the recreance? Maybe even the one who started it. They murdered their Spren, who loved them. “A hundred shades of wrongness.” It sounds like a bad romance novel set on Nalthis.

I’ll start after the prerelease chapters. With the time I’ve spent reading on the forums, I actually caught a lot more in the chapters that I would on a regular read-through (or listen). And I’m really excited to know that happens at the end of the book. I know I’ll reread Oathbringer all-the-way through again before the next book. Maybe twice even. So I’ll get another dose of Part 1 then

[OB] [Edgedancer Spoilers] Thought's on Lift in Oathbringer
Bernem replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
Or could she suck in the Stormlight he used to stick her with? We know Kaladin and Shallan can take back the stormlight they use to lash/lightweave. But can one KR take stormlight being used by another KR's abilities? @eveorjoy I like the theory and hope we do get to see Lift on screen.- 34 replies

It doesn't seem like Evi qualifies as "his wife" less now than she did before he married Navani. When he went to the Nightwatcher, he wasn't actively married to Evi because she was deceased. The way I see it, either she stopped being "his wife" the moment she died, or she always counts as his wife. But either way, the Nightwatcher doesn't give exactly what people ask for, so I don't think the phrasing is that important. My money is on the forgetfulness being conditional on something that has now changed.

Glad to hear you have the chicken medallions. Here is the food from the Oathbringer flashback (chapter 19): "servants brought out slabs of pork and lanka claws for the men, cooked in a savory broth" "Dalinar finished the claws, then turned toward his pork, a succulent slab of meat swimming in gravy." "The meat was growing cold, but still smelled delicious." "the serving staff entered with teas and fruit to close the meal; one tried to take his steak," Not too detailed, but there's something.

How the Sleepless are Watching [Edgedancer Spoilers]
Bernem replied to Shadowmancer's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I hadn't ever heard this! It is nice to have confirmation from Brandon on a specific cremling. Here's the WoB for those who are curious. Edit: spacing -
Anytime Brandon describes the peppery meat Dalinar is eating, it makes my mouth water. There is spicy pork with gravy in the latest Oathbringer flashback (this was also read on tour previously), and at the first feast in the WoK, Dalinar eats some chicken.

I like these two. Perhaps he requested the Nightwatcher to "Remove Evi from my mind until I am strong enough to bear her loss." Now that he has bonded the Stormfather and has a loving companion, he would be able to deal with the grief. Or maybe being bound to the SF has unbound his mind.
-
I don't think Dalinar being able to heal his memory of Evi would be boring or the "easy way out". It could bring some conflict and growth to Dalinar. If forgetting her was actually his Boon, he could realize why he had asked for the memories to be removed, and then have to avoid healing any more memory. Then even his Boon would become a curse. Or maybe he killed her under the Thrill and finally has to come to terms with his past actions instead of hiding from them. It would be interesting parallel to have Dalinar going through something similar to Shallan at the same time.

I also like the thought of Shallan soulcasting the deposits. But why would the ghostbloods have been so eager to get the soulcaster back if it were a fake?

As we discuss Oathbringer for the next few weeks, I think it would be useful to have some agreed-upon names to distinguish the former Parshendi and the former Parshmen. It would also be nice to have a term that encompasses both groups. Here is what I propose: Formerly Parshendi (Eshonai's group that lived on the shattered plains) - Listeners because they listen to the rhythms, unlike the newly transformed Parshmen Former Parshmen (used to be servants until the Everstorm) - Awakened Parshmen or Talking Parshmen (I don't love these terms. Anyone have anything better?) Both of those groups collectively (all the marble-skinned bipeds) - Parshendi since that means "Parshmen who can think" in Alethi, and the former Parshmen can think now that they are out of no-form/slaveform Parshmen who have not transformed/still don't have a form - Parshmen (We don't know if there are any of these left) Thoughts? I'll update this post if there is a consensus on better names.

@maxal I also was wondering where his mom was in his tutoring. Perhaps he is just talking about the time after she died. Or maybe she just wasn't very engaged in his learning. Navani did say she wasn't very clever, and Navani and Jasnah seem like they would jump at the opportunity to make sure their relatives are "properly educated".

So the awakened Parshmen have something/someone in the tent. I've seen that only one person has conjectured that there are voidbringers in there. My guess is that it is one or a few Stormform Parshedi. Odium guides or controls the voidbringers, and they in turn control the other Parshmen that Kaladin sees. When Eshonai was transformed, she mentioned hearing new rhythms, like annoyance, fury, derision. Does that mean that Parshmen need to be able to hear rhythms to bond voidspren? If so, that could explain why the tuneless Parshmen speaking Alethi didn't transform into Stormform. I hope we get Parshendi/Parshmen meetings on screen. It would be interesting for Eshonai's group to see "Listeners" that can't hear the rhythms. Also, if transformed Parshmen from different countries met each other, would they be unable to communicate? It seems like that would make Odium's job harder if his voidbringers couldn't all understand each other.

We finally get mention of the honorblade in these chapters. I wonder if the Shin know what has happened to Szeth, and where the blade is. In WoK, it says the stone shamans would retrieve it when Szeth died. Are they coming to Urithiru? Do they realize they were wrong in making Szeth a Truthless?

The Way of Kings - Free eBook Download from Tor on March 23-24
Bernem replied to Andy92's topic in Stormlight Archive
I was actually introduced to Brandon Sanderson through a a similar giveaway a few years ago. A friend posted a link to the WoK iBook for free. When I finally got into reading it months later, I fell in love with the series and looked for more by Brandon. I really didn't know what I was getting myself in to. I didn't know it was part of an unfinished 10-book series that wouldn't be finished for about 20 years, and because it was an ebook I didn't even realize how long it was. I just started reading and the book kept going and going! But hopefully others discover the Cosmere through this next giveaway! -
I think you're right. When I first read it I thought it meant that since worldhoppers couldn't easily get to Scadrial anymore, that their worldhopping mercantile system had been upset. The Final Empire's economy makes more sense though. emailanimal, I'll add your bullet point.

To be clear it doesn't explicitly say they are looking for Shades. It refers to them as "cognitive shadows" from Threnody. Personally I think it makes sense that they were refering to shades, but it doesn't outright say it. Edit: Apparently there is a WOB that says Shades are cognitive shadows. So it is almost certain that they are referring to Shades.

I've been lurking on the forums for about a year and decided to finally make an account and post something. I don't know about the rest of you, but I really loved Secret History, especially everything it taught us about realmatic theory. There was so much new information that I wanted to make a thread to keep track of things and make sure I didn't miss anything. Here's what I have that Secret History taught us about the cognitive realm. Feel free to add anything I missed. Cognitive beings appear differently in different planets. On Scadrial, things appear as mist (opposed to spheres on Roshar). It is possible to exist in the cognitive realm without presence in physical realm, but investiture is required to sustain it. If you fall through the "floor" of the cognitive realm, you may fall indefinitely. Cognitive aspects of physical objects (like the campfire) can be moved without moving the actual physical objects. They can even be moved to other planets. It seems that the cognitive representation gets weaker with distance unless fueled by something (investiture?). It is possible (not explicitly stated, but implied) for a person without a presence in the physical realm to reestablish a form there (Kelsier). This is similar to what the spren do on Roshar. Touching the cognitive aspect of something lets you see its physical form. There are established bases in the cognitive realm, for example the Ire. The presence of investiture makes it easier to go to and from the cognitive realm (a perpendicularly). We already knew shard pools made it possible, but Hoid mentions the atium mines. It is possible to affect things in Physical Realm by applying sufficient quantities of Investiture to their representations in the Cognitive Realm. In Roshar's Shadesmar this appears in the form of a trading game that an Elsecaller or a Lightweaver can play with the Cognitive aspects of things (also a Willshaper maybe?). (Thanks to emailanimal) I know there are more, I'll add them as I think of them. Edit: Updated the list (removed one and added a new one)
