In their post right after mine, @WayneSpren said they hurt Iyatil and heal Nazh, and then did the opposite. So I'm not sure whether I should fix that or not... WayneSpren, if you wouldn't mind fixing that? Heal Nazh, hurt Iyatil. 1. Khriss--252. Nazh--163. Iyatil--29

I must admit, I'm one of the people who dislike Shallan - not exactly because of her decisions, but because of her dishonesty and lies, which, considering her entire personality is based on those two, makes it even harder for me to like. I'd add that I didn't like her interactions with Kaladin one bit, as they were a very cliche set-up for a "they hate each other! but now they love each other!" plotline coloured with cringe (like the boot theft early on, and their shouting match later), but I do like her a lot more during her scenes with Adolin. They're a cute couple, IMO, and I think that when interacting with him, she's more true to herself - and I do like what I see of Shallan there far more than the personality she usually puts on. And I have to agree, her Ghostblooding scenes are fun to read. This gives me hope for her story with Oathbringer, and bdoble97 has a really good point! With Urithiru's libraries available for her, she's bound to find something interesting.

O wow. Well, if everyone agrees... Alright, as to not keep the current state of affairs going for at least five more pages, from now on, we're adding and substracting 2 points.

Book Recommendation for Sanderson Fan
Rasarr replied to Dubisx's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I'd add to the list the Traitor Son Cycle by Miles Cameron and Bradley Bealieu's Twelve Kings in Sharakhai. The former is, at a first glance, your standard medieval fantasy, and isn't all that imaginative in terms of worldbuilding, but the fantastic creatures - the Wild - are very varied, creative and fascinating, and the setting in alternative North America-esque land, complete with Native tribes (which aren't treated as "magical Indians") makes it somewhat intersting. Also, there are dragons, and they're awesome. The plot is quite intriguing and the multitude of characters are fun. The story is about a mercenary band that gets hired to protect a convent from the Wild and finds itself way over its head, and I can't tell you more without spoiling it, but things escalate pretty quickly. The latter is more Thousand Nights inspired, about a city ruled by twelve immortal kings, and a woman who decides to take them down as a revenge - but it's also about a guy who joins a resistance that isn't as heroic as it seems, about a man who tries to extract his revenge on the resistance and stopping his sister-in-law from losing her humanity, and about multitude of gods and monsters playing a bigger game. It's a pretty slow burn, but certainly worth it. It has stuff like sand-sailing ships, flowers that turn you into superhumans, and a whole army of badass women who are tough without straying into the cringeworthy "strong independent woman" trap. -
ENTIRE COSMERE OPTIONED FOR MOVIES

@maxal, while we're all ever so slightly worried about this, I think you are overestimating how much of a flop it could be. Yes, to paraphrase bleeder's friend, we won't be disappointed if our expectations are low, but it might just turn out alright (I'm sorry if this ends up sounding like an attack - I definitely mean this to be quite the opposite of one). Warcraft was hardly a commercial flop; it tanked in America, but elsewhere, hardly so - in China, for example, that movie was bigger than Force Awakens. This at least shows that there is interest out there for an epic fantasy movie, and the film itself proves that the technology is there to make the effects look the way they're needed. While SA doesn't have nearly the same level of recognition as Warcraft franchise does, it's different enough that it might just attrack the audience that wants to see something fresh. It's the same reason that attracted audiences to Watchmen, only with a more colourful and interesting world to keep audience's interest. I don't have much more to say in defense of the idea (I'm in the "cautiously optimistic" phase right now, and I know very little about the people involved), I'd just like to note that Adolin is unlikely to be cut for the same reason he was added to the book - Dalinar's conflict is too internal without him. Movies need a supporting character for the main ones to bounce off, and for that very reason, the filmmakers might find Adolin necessary. Who else is Dalinar going to exposit his issues to, Elhokar? -
I'm down for adding and substracting two points from now on, otherwise this might take a load of time. Heal Nazh, hurt Iyatil. 1. Khriss--24 2. Nazh--24 3. Iyatil--22

ENTIRE COSMERE OPTIONED FOR MOVIES

Wow. Someone's definitely aiming to make themselves a movie franchise. I admit I am... somewhat apprehensive of this, but I suppose that's something every fan feels when their favourite work is going to get adapted. It's quite bizzarre, to me, that they're starting with Way of the Kings. On one hand, I have to admire the sheer ambition of it, but on the other... yeah, Mistborn might've been a better choice. @Secrets - I don't know... part 1 of WoK ends with Kaladin turning away from his suicide attempt. That's not much to make a whole movie from, really, more like a miniseries episode. The choice of Way of the Kings continues to baffle me. Besides, have we actually seen a fantasy franchise besides LoTR that actually did well in the cinemas? I mean, Warcraft did pretty well everywhere beyond US, but its fanbase is somewhat bigger than Comere's. -

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Rasarr replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I've read that sentence and for some reason immediately started imagining Mraize in full "Thug Life" paraphenalia. So this is your fault : -
I wouldn't say there's no good fantasy after you've read Brandon - I know we all love him here, but there are many other authors out there who are also good. To give an example, I've recently been reading Miles Cameron's Traitor Son Cycle. I'd definitely recommend that. Magic is little more than passable, but the plot and characters are just awesome.

That's an interesting theory, but there is, I believe, a WoB that all of those are in-universe documents, so the chances that they show connections between several people in-universe are rather slim.
-
I mean, why can't we have Eshonai the Willshaper and Rlain the Dustbringer? If the story wants to prove to us that Radiant Listeners are possible, then it might just go all the way with it and make several of them Radiants.

Ah, alright. I've made a quick trip to the Coppermind, and indeed, you're right. Still, he appears to be unaffected by the Everstorm even though he was there at its inception, so perhaps Listeners are far enough in Unkalaki lineage that the voidspren can't impact them any more.
-
Wasn't the reason Rock can see spren the fact that he took a bath in what's implied to be a Perpendicularity, though? If so, his ability isn't necessarily tied to his Listener ancestors.
