  1. Welcome to the Shard. Please consider an Intro Post to let us know what you have or have-not read (whichever list is shorter). Also, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful forum info and tips. Zinc and Copper are not Paired. Zinc and Brass are paired (Soothing and Rioting), Copper and Bronze are paired (Sensing Investiture and Supressing the ability to sense investiture). Gold and Cadium are also not paired. Gold pairs with Electrum (Seeing past for yourself and seeing slightly into your own future); while Cadmium and Bendalloy are paired (Speeding up time in a bubble and slowing down tome in a bubble). The sets of pairs in a quadrant are not necessarily connected - other than they are operating on some of the same principals (Like Time). Please recall, this was partially explained in Mistborn book 1 - TFE (Ch 20) Some of the organization of the Allomantic table was devised (in world) because of the Signatures the Metal Rhythms carried. It;s how Allomancers first knew that metals were connected, and their relationships with each other. Pulling/Pushing, Pulse Length (Internal/External), and Rhythm (by Era 2 they know there are actually four rhythms, TLR had just be obfuscating Allomancy during the Final Empire - to keep an advantage). Allomantic Pairs do not have to be opposites at all, and this is a good example - they are paired by the nature of Base Metal and Alloy - Pushing and Pulling. But, in this case they are not pushing and pulling on the same things - just both affecting different physical processes - Pewter is Pushing your Muscles and Body to their limits. Tin is Pulling on the neural connections and their sensory organs to improve acuity (and why A-Tin will always increase all senses at once, while F-Tin can store/tap a single Sense, but needs a separate Tinmind for each sense being Stored/Tapped). If you have not yet read Era 2 - then much of this will make more sense when you do. Keep in mind, much of Harmony's comment to Spook there was also obfuscating that Atium and Malatium were not meant to be part of normal Allomancy. Preservation had made changes to facilitate the Prophesy and therefore (spoilers) Hope that helps
  2. Be careful of accidental double posts. You can use the Three dot menu to "Hide" the second redundant one (or use report post to ask a Mod to fix it). Please see the Sharder FAQ for more info (and other useful tips). AU = Arcanum Unbounded - it has essays for each Shardworld that had a Story in the Anthology. Book acronyms are also listed in the Sharder FAQ. The Essays are written by an in-Cosmere author - Minor Spoiler: Hope that helps
  3. Welcome to the Shard. Please consider an Intro Post to make it easy to find what you have or have-not read. Also, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful forum info and tips. So - recap confirmation: You have access to all of the books except White Sand You want to minimize Spoilers, while maximizing the ability to see Connections You want to keep Series as "in order as possible" and fit the Short Stories and novellas in between the bigger series. Chronological when possible, but avoiding spoilers/confusion is more important Otherwise White Sand should be your first (which you don't have) because that is the earliest book so far Chronology Timeline was also in the linked post above My full "informed decision" list in this thread is here - but it is likely one of the ones that were causing you confusion. If yes, my apologies. A lot of that is when making generic references to help inform decisions, I can't know what work they started with and what works they have available, so it needs to cover the bases as well as possible. Based on those Criteria, I would suggest the following: Author's Tips to spot Worldhoppers: Hope that helps
  4. There were some Roshar ideas in a thread about Stormlight Birthday Parties You can make/solve Cosmere themed Puzzles. @The Sibling and @The Stormfather worked on rules for Tarachin (and a Mini Version) Spoilers for WoR (Ch 44): You could work on skills in writing Women's Script, Glyphs, Aons, and/or the Steel Alphabet. Will update if I think of more. Hope that helps
  5. It's not about draining Gaseous Investiture, it's about draining Kinetic Investiture. BioChroma, held by a person is Static and would not likely be drained by Raysium unless it was being used in Awakening, or being transfered to another person - that is when BioChroma is Kinetic. Hope that helps
  6. Welcome to the Shard. Please consider an Intro Post to let us know what you have or have-not read (whichever list is shorter). Also, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful forum info and tips. Feruchemy is also used on-screen in both RoW and WaT by Axindweth. Presumably Gereh was also using Feruchemy, but if it was on-screen then he was much more subtle than she was.
  7. Welcome to the Shard. Please consider an Intro Post to let us know what you have or have-not read (whichever list is shorter). Also, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful forum info and tips. We do not yet know, and likely will not know until Book 6. The only indicator is in the Postlude of WaT: If it is 1:1 (years for months) then the Heralds will experience 1 Rosharan Year (10 months) - if that is only an estimate/average, then likely the Heralds will experience 0.75-2 Rosharan Years over the 10-15 Rosharan Years for the Physical Realm. The subjective time being lower is implied to be quite important, because one of the Herald's problems is Millennia of Memories in their brains not meant to hold that much history (which is implied to be why Wit offloads memories into storages like Breath - to maintain his sanity). Hope that helps
  8. It is unlikely that a tattoo of a Soulstamp could function. With AonDor, you can make the Aon (solo or with Modifiers) out of any material and it will remain inert until an Elantrian activates it with Intent (like the Aon Ashe/Tia plates around Elantris). However, this is not true for Forgery, which requires the completed Stamp (or Linchpin Stamp to a completed work) to be Sealed with the Setting Mark and applied the entire design at once so that it can "sink" past the flesh to touch the Spiritweb and re-write the soul. TES: So, while it may be possible for an Elantrian to make Aon Tattoos function, A Soul Stamp would have to be a Brand of some kind (applying the entire Stamp) and that implement would have to have the correct Setting Marks on it. Unless we get a WoB otherwise, this does not seem possible based on current known information. WoB: Hope that helps
  9. Except that the new WoB is not really like the old WoB. In Fact, the New WoB seems to have been influenced by the old one: At least that was my take.
  10. My apologies, your previous post did not mention FTL - only general "tech" We won't have more information on Starmarks until we get Darksiders (There is some info in the Omnibus Ars Arcanum) - and, even then, it will be from the Cosmere's Past - taking place shortly after White Sand does; based on current known information. That said, with a higher starting level of Technological understanding, the gap to FTL may well be smaller. Also, please consider that FLT in IED has two definitions - using ships to traverse Shadesmar, and using Ships to cover the distance to a planet in the Physical Realm alone. Starling's comments do not determine which (or both) may be referenced. Also, Starling does not say that Taldain does not use Aethers, either - she just noted to herself that even though Dajer is talking up the Malwish, they are still reliant on Aethers (with no indication if others are or are-not also using Aethers). IED Ch 40 Also, note that the White Sand Omnibus does have hints of some Starmark abilties. With it being likely that Sand Masters use a Luhel Bond to control the sand, it could be that Taldain is also using Aethers - but is better/more efficient with their use due to millenia of experience with the Luhel Bond. Not to mention that the Sand is actually a bond to a microflora which can be bred - so Taldain may very well have been able to expand which media can host the Microflora (and therefore be Bonded and Controlled). Hope that helps
  11. @Nitpicking It's not about how Sand Mastery or Starmarks influence the technology, it's that Autonomy gave them help with underlying Scientific Principals (possibly through [spoilers] Skathan, who is implied to be a Vessel for an Avatar of Autonomy). But, even without that, Taldain had higher levels of tech until Autonomy closed the system to Worldhoppers. WoBs: Hope that helps
  12. No mention by Khriss in the Ars Arcanum: Hope that helps
  13. At least we got some Graphic Novels after the movie, and it's fun to see the crew of Serenity cameo in all of Fillion's new(er) series like Castle and Rookie.
  14. Because Discord is a tool meant for real-time conversation and not meant for separation of topics. Discord is far too busy to have a small specific conversation - it's great at what it does, but discussing books in detail is not something it is good for. It's like trying to talk at a crowded bar - all the noise and three+ other conversations all happening on top of each other makes it very difficult to track who said what and when. I'll take a forum where a topic is defined by the OP and every post in that topic relates to that conversation every time (and the forums allow multiple time zones to participate), and use Discord for it's intended real-time chat purposes when no specific detailed conversation is needed. Just my 20yen
  15. You can read all the WoBs tagged as Wheel of Time, but Jordan left a whole lot of notes, and wrote some scenes fromteh final three books that Brandon had to incorporate around other things derived from the notes. Some of the WoBs: Hope that helps
  16. This belongs in Entertainment Forum - there is a current 65 page thread for it here. Hope that helps
  17. Welcome to the Shard. Please consider an Intro Post to let us know what you have or have-not read (whichever list is shorter). Also, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful forum info and tips. It's possible that was part of his inspiration - as we know there are no Blackthorn Trees east of the Shinovar Mountains on Roshar (maybe none on Roshar at all); like a lot of Alethi terms and such, they are inspired by the cultural Memory of Ashyn and humanity's early days on Roshar (e. g. axehounds using the term "hound" when modern alethi do not know what a dog is). So, how he came by that Nickname is further complicated by how and why the Alethi even remember that name and what historical/mythological/cultural baggage is attached to the term for it to have endured for so long. We do not have a WoB on the direct inspiration for why Sanderson chose that name (only one possible subconcious inspiration), so it is possible that was part of the symbolism. WoBs: Hope that helps
  18. No Worries. Congrats on the Promotion to Darkeyes
  19. It would depend on what you mean by "create a Fused." If you mean a Fused Soul entering the Gemheart in the skeleton to take over the body, then probably not. The Kandra "wear" their bones, but are not Connected to them (and would not Connect to the Gemheart, since they cannot take Singer forms through Nahel Bonds while wearing Singer bones either - but they can impersonate the form that the Bones were wearing when digested). If you mean, as @ThatOneWorldhopper pointed out, could a Kandra sufficiently Connected to Odium become a Fused soul - then that is less clear. It's hard to kill a Kandra, and it is implied that Odium only makes Fused from the Cognitive Shadows of dead minions (when he tells Dalinar that dying in the Champion Duel would be why he can become a new Fused). But, in that case, the Kandra soul would no longer have a Kandra body - as the Mistwraith shell with Kandra Blessings would be dead. WoB: Hope that helps
  20. Origin does customized Gaming laptops. Asus has a line of laptops they call "Republic of Gamers" that are designed for gaming requirements. Alienware is, of course, the original "designed for gaming" laptop (now owned by Dell). But @Eluvianii hit the mark - start with the known requirements of the highest-end game you plan to play and just make sure whatever you purchase meets those minimums (or threshold ideals - as some games list both). Expect to invest in a gaming mouse as well (extra/customizable buttons). My original Origin gaming laptop lasted me 8 years, so while it was expensive at the onset - the fact that it essentially saved me from buying one or two more laptops (and stood up to very heavy travel usage) made the investment cheaper in the long run. If you can afford it, it is sometimes better to go much higher on the specifications now to make sure it will be functional much longer (or, as mentioned above, make sure it is upgradable).
  21. Self-appointed, maybe. But this thread is about the Rep Titles, not the Profile titles. Please see the Sharder FAQ for more details on Rep (and other useful info): Looks like you are currently a Skaa: Hope that helps.
  22. All we know of Sunraiser so far - WoBs: So, there is a reason for the Ten Fundamental Glyphs, and we do not yet know what that reason is (but it was not a Bondsmith Blade). Great catch.
  23. By "he" do you mean Kelsier or Rashek? If TLR, then WoB: Hope that helps
  24. That is not enough information to make an informed recommendation. Laptop or Desktop? What Type(s) of games? Internet games or Stand alone? Upgradable, or good for the next few years when you can get something better? OS Preference? Gaming only, or gaming and streaming? etc. I currently use a Framework 16 Laptop, solo play (or at least not MMORPG) - because they are easy to personalize, upgrade, and maintain. Before that I used Origin (but their customer service has gone way down-hill). Hope that helps.
  25. Isn't Dragonsteel going into the future as well? No. Dragonsteel will be the second-to-last Series written, being released before Mistborn Era 4 and telling the story of Hoid's Origins and the Shattering. You seem to be conflating real world timing with in-story timeframe. WoBs: Hope that helps
