A war between Scadrial (era 2) and Roshar
IndigoAjah replied to Bowiespoon's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Just basing it on what we have seen so far. One Steelrunner in combat, who was ridiculously OP as well as it making the Inquisitors and TLR gamebreakers (and I sure hope the Shardhelm gap can't fit a bullet through it). Increased speed OWNING every Shardbearer coming up against it. 10 seconds speed, maybe 20 if we are being generous, to go faster than the Shardbearer can possibly react to and get a stab in his obvious weak point that we have seen used. Saze stores up quite a bit of speed that he uses on his run to Luthadel- it's hard to store but 20 seconds isn't much Interesting side question: does Shardplate keep out Emotional Allomancy? I assume it does. In terms of overall usefulness, Soothers and Rioters could end the battles before they begin, at least at first. And as defeatible as I think Shardbearers are in combat vs Metalborn, as long as you can get to them within 10 seconds pre-battle assassination is a clear option. No Mistborn unfortunately but a Misting crew should have a pretty easy shot at it. Just need good coin shots really. Or a Duralumin Ferring. Store Connection, waltz in unnoticeable. -
Vin &Elend vs. Legolas & Gimli
IndigoAjah replied to Titan Arum's topic in General Brandon Discussion
That is pretty much the only way they could lose. Though technically Elend still lives at the end of that -

Get just outside Blade range. 1 second of x10 speed, dagger through eye slit. Done. Next Shardbearer. Now I have a Shardblade. Took 10 seconds of speed. Simples. The point of Steelrunning is that you don't let it become anything close to a fair fight and you use it in tiny bursts to assassinate Edit: and say 10x speed is too quick. 3x speed is probably quick enough to make the kill, especially if they don't know you can do it. I don't know what Szeth's speed was but he literally toyed with Shardbearers and that was before actually using his Blade or Surges That's the other thing about Brutes, Thugs, Steelrunners etc. Unlike the bloke in shiny, obvious armour, or the blokes who glow, Allomancers and Feruchemists just look like anyone Now if only they had the ability to tap intuitive jumps of logic and processing speed to come up with this kind of structured attack plan... -

Does it steal an entire person's worth of strength though? Actually, given the way the Allomatic powers from Spikes work, it probably does... -

Plus once they kill their first set of Shardbearers- hello Shards. Hello Steelrunning Shardbearer -
shardblade Do Shardblades provide a bonus versus Shardplate?
IndigoAjah replied to CaptainRyan's topic in Stormlight Archive
Is this because the Investiture weakens the Armour's Investiture, attacking the Stormlight that holds the Plate together? In terms of simple physics it doesn't make sense, but the Stormlight does seem to create a layer of protection and hold the Plate together even when it shouldn't physically hold -

Yeah, Wax tends to go about filling so he has a lot of weight stored up, but he's individually pretty special and Crashers are very rare (all Twinborn are) so using Crashers isn't a viable policy, really -
Catchy beat, nice and simple, a lot of soul to it. Really enjoyable experience. I swear I've heard it before, too! A classic rock cover from me now, from probably the best artist I have seen live: Edited to a better version

I don't think we know. I'm going to go with yes, but it's a mix of systems and so not intuitional and so much harder to do -

Nah, they'd tap weight and push it away without a problem You might be thinking of a Lurcher -

Basically would be a lot better with a Crasher -

The coinshot would probably die if they were pushing back on something behind them, to be fair -
shardblade Do Shardblades provide a bonus versus Shardplate?
IndigoAjah replied to CaptainRyan's topic in Stormlight Archive
Those are reasons you might get more strikes in or that the weapon would last longer, but not that the Plate would break in fewer blows -

yes but would the Blade break the Plate in fewer swings? The Blade is a better weapon but does it actually break the Plate better per blow? -

<p>Um, a sword would have quite a bit effect wielded by even a weaker Pewterarm. "Shardbows" and hammers are both used as effective anti-Shardplate weapons, and Szeth with Stormlight (that's his strength advantage as Shardblades are magically sharp not magically strong) smashes up Plate. What makes you think they have become <strong>that</strong> much weaker?</p> <p> </p> <p>Another aside, I'm not sure you see how difficult it is to understand something like guns before your culture has come up with the necessary groundwork to get there. I doubt very much that they could "work out how guns work", tehy lack the understanding in several not just one area of science.</p> <p> </p> <p>Also, darkeye ardents are likely kept working for the inherent racism in their system because a) they are focussed on serving their god and <img class="bbc_emoticon" src="http://www.17thshard.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/cool.png"title="B)" /> they are blind to it due to its institutionalised and ingrained nature. This would not apply to Scadrians coming across, who if religious have their own god who is demonstrably more alive than Honor</p> <p> </p> <p>And as for getting within range, they'd hardly be the first enhanced fighters to get within Shardblade range. Shardblades are NOT particularly well designed for fighting humans and especially not smaller numbers of skilled ones.</p> <p> </p> <p>Plus eventually the Shardkillers are going to get Shards</p> -
Well, they might, firstly, for all we know And that doesn't take away from its similarity to Stormlight in speed and strength, as I've said elsewhere Stormlight is much better re healing than Pewter, but against a Shardbearer healing is of little relevance and toughness is not that relevant either - the tactic is be fast and nimble enough to avoid the Blade, then bash the Plate to pieces with 5 of you strong enough to crack it and strong enough to at least contend in a raw strength for long enough to get the rest of your blows in

No but gut instinct says Stormlight vs normal Gold, but obviously Compounding > Stormlight -

Yeah, but that is nothing to do with strength, toughness, speed or ANYTHING that is an attribute. Renarin was wearing armour. That's what armour is meant to do. Magic shiny armour but its protective features are separate, for the most part, to its attribute enhancing features -

But a Nicrosil Misting does the same thing as Duralumin but for someone else. EDIT: admittedly, on the Elendel Basin bit of Scadrial. Nicrosil seems at least rare. But I'm sure they'd aim to make more of it in a war effort -

Pretty sure we don't, my comparisons are based on how people infusing Stormlight seem to move and how Pewterarms are described as moving in Mistborn, an inherently subjective comparison. And then in the few situations where we have seen Stormlight Speed vs Shardplate, how in the favour of Stormlight speed the fights were (admittedly, Kal and Szeth may not be representative, they also seem to be inherently gifted warriors) I think our views of Shardbearers are overly positive due to the ease of most of their opponents (except the ones who curbstomp them, kill them despite not knowing about their powers and be armed with basically nothing or hold off against several despite lack of weapons and limited capacity to hold and use Stormlight) and Pewterarms are overly negative because we see them fight against ludicrous killing machines (Vin and Kelsier) with a talent for murder and a wide range of skills EDIT: Pathfinder, I'm pretty sure Vin use Duralumin as well as Pewter for that blow -

Aren't we pretty sure Dalinar was proto-Radianting and using Stormlight at the same time? Adolin thinks that was impossible even with Plate -
Luckily Iron is dirt cheap anyway!

and I have a quasi-theory as an alternative that he uses a Lerasium Coppermind to fill and then tap Destiny
