The dodging of spoilers begins, And the others will indeed grin. While my workload may call out, My curiosity stays throughout, So my feelings shall be jealous herein (For all of us not reading the chapters)

Another good poet, one who I believe that @Dr_Evilcat will agree with me on is Wislawa Szymborska (affectionately called Sissy-B). Great poet who lived in Poland under the USSR and the Nazis, so her work is 'coded' so that you can't understand it's criticisms of the regimes just by reading it as it is. So brutally honest without taking herself too seriously, but not pessimistic. My two favourites in spoiler tags for length. I also love war poetry, especially Anthem for Doomed Youth by Wilfred Owen, as well as TS Eliott (especially The Hollow Men, such a haunting poem.)

Game of Thrones/ASoIaF
StormyQueen replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in Entertainment Discussion
If Dany actually says why she wants the throne instead of the whole 'its my birthright' thing, if it is a good reason, I may side with her, but right now I would agree with you that Jon should have the throne; he is the better leader, is far more flexible, actually understands the culture of Westeros. Heaps of my friends want Dany on the throne because she has suffered so much to get there, but I absolutely detest how she keeps using her suffering as a reason for why she should have the throne. I would also agree with the sex scenes. The more recent seasons have been far more enjoyable without them. It got to a point when I was rolling my eyes at them and using them as a good opportunity to discuss the episode. So much better without them. -
Game of Thrones/ASoIaF
StormyQueen replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I never liked the books after the first one, and personally, I think the show does a better job. GRRM's prose just didn't work for me, and the books moved too slowly for me to be interested. Also, as I have theorised since the third book or season (I can't remember exactly), I think Dany will make a terrible leader of Westeros, and that she will, eventually become something of a "mad queen". I don't think she will go mad per se, but I think she will reflect that. Game of Thrones has shown how it likes showing the past repeating itself, and I think Dany will be a reflection of her ancestors. And, she's on a very, very slippery slope right now. I didn't mind her before this recent season, but she has become so self-entitled that I just don't like her. Jon Snow for King? -
If it is the thing that I think it is, I don't think it is actually made for being released, more just to make companies want to contribute to the project, so sadly, I don't think these kinds of things are usually released publicly. I would love to be wrong though

I think it is the fact that she acts childish that I don't like it. Sure, it may be justified because that is how old she is, but that still doesn't change the fact that I don't really enjoy reading more childish characters. It's just my personal preferences, but I can see why others like her so much.

I have read Edgedancer, and while I do think her heart is in the right place, she is completely illogical at times (which in itself is fine, I really like Wayne after all), but I think it is her pre-teen attitude which really rubs me up the wrong way. Sure these kinds of people exist in real life, that doesn't mean I want to read about them all the time.

Yeah... I've never liked Lift. She always just seemed so caught up in her own world, not caring about what was actually right, and calling Wyndle a voidbringer just shows that. For my personal tastes she is just too immature for me to enjoy her chapters, too much of a pre-teen I guess?

A really ridiculous theory: Cosmere Nutella!!!

It isn't just Australia. In New Zealand and England, it is Nuhtella. I never even knew that people were pronouncing it newtella. That's just weird. -
Elend sat with a book on his knee While Vin was but an attendee. She let out a sigh But he did not reply, So asked how many books can there be.
-
There once was a man named Hoid And of stories he was never devoid. He went to a city Where he was very witty, But ultimately remained unemployed. There was a woman who made Vin tick and even gave quite a good kick. Though Vin was not a real knight, She put up a very good fight. Twas quite the homicidal hat trick.

What are you playing right now?

Just finished Fire Emblem Revelations, and man, what an ending. Onto borrowing Awakening from a friend now I guess. -
Well, the name was tossed around for Sazed before, but Morgan Freeman as the voice of Ruin would be amazing. I mean, it would literally be the voice of a god.

This fantasy writer spikes himself. You'll never believe what happens next! You'll NEVER believe where this insulting wit has been. This new metal will change your life forever. Harmony tells all. Top ten ways to prepare for the evestorm. You'll never believe #7!

No idea if this has been done already, but a good old Terry Pratchett quotes can never go astray. "This isn't life in the fast lane, it's life in the oncoming traffic."

Well then, not sure where I've seen you before, but welcome to the madness that is the 17th Shard. Have an upvote and I will also reiterate, cookies are not a good thing to eat here.

If you can, you'll be a stronger person than me. I couldn't wait to get my hands on the next book. As for me, I've just started on The Blade Itself having giving up on Malazan for the moment because I need something far less confusing in a very stressful schedule...

While I prefer real books, travelling a lot has somewhat forced me to like e-books if I want to read. I don't mind them, but when you're in a country where you will find approximately 1 bookstore in the town that sells interesting fiction in English, you must make the choice... While the feeling and smell of real books is nice, and I still have heaps (too many. There is no more space), but having e-books is so much lighter and easy to use...

Yeah! Fellow Shallan x Kaladin shipper, I see you (I also high-five you). Anyway, as has already been said multiple times: Such a great dynamic. Weren't too similar, and certainly had their differences, but a great couple, and helped each other as they grew into different people. The quote about the lock and key suits them so much.

Most Overrated Character
StormyQueen replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I've always found Lift really overrated. To me, her character was just really immature and childish. Another one I find particularly overrated is (please don't kill me) Adolin. While he seems like a cool guy and all, he never seemed to have the same depth as other characters. Heaps of people seem to want him to become a radiant, but I kind of don't thin we need another from the family. He's a cool guy, but I don't find him that cool. My love for stick is far more as a joke than anything else, the fandom meme, but it probably has gotten a bit out of hand. I think that in a lot of countries (particularly America if what I have been told is true) being religious is the norm. And, even if it isn't everywhere, I think it can be an admirable trait in Jasnah because of the setting she is in, where she is seen as a heretic and constantly has to stand up for her beliefs, even though they are incredibly controversial. -
Yeah, the dropbears get to them and eat their brains off while the locals hop off on their pet kangaroos

For me Morgan Freeman doesn't quite have the same look that I see Sazed having (too wirey?), but for that voice, I'm in.
-
You always hear that stereotype, but I never knew how much to believe it. I guess it was somewhat accurate? In Australia as a whole, and in the different states, theres generally over a third of people who aren't religious at all and you don't really get too many preachy ones. It almost makes it harder to be religious as friends make fun of religions a fair bit. Opposite to Texas maybe

See, I have always found this idea of pushing forwards Christianity (or any religion) just so strange and foreign. Where I grew up, you were more likely to be teased for actually being religious (or really, more specifically Christian). Just shows the different cultures in the different countries I guess. Would you say that preachy Christians are the norm, or just the people that are the loudest in Texas?

Well, I think Liam Neeson would make an amazing Sazed, just saying. He's got the right face shape, and I think would just work...
