  1. Haha, thanks for the welcome Ookla. I love it too; one of my party tricks is when I quote the whole thing from start to finish, complete with voices . Certainly the best of the Monty Python films (at least for me). The funny thing is that GoT was the last book I added to that list. My girlfriend had this thing of "spending equal amounts of money" on Christmas this year, and I had a bit left over. GoT turned up on book depository and I figured I may as well see what all the fuss is about. No idea whether I'll like it or not, but the show can be interesting at times. And I'm interested to read GRRM from a prose perspective; I've heard he can be quite dense. Yeah, I generally allow myself to get wrapped up in a series and take it to its conclusion, so I'll be planning to read the Words of Radiance after Way of Kings, just as I'll be reading all the Ender's Game series and the Saga of the Seven Suns in one hit too. I don't know about you but I find it hard to carry over from one book to another if there's a big gap in between my reading of them both. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll add it to my list. I did! I was looking at Brandon Sanderson's TV Tropes page (don't know if you frequent that, but it's pretty much Wikipedia for fiction nuts, so take a look if you've got an hour or three free) and I saw that that was something he was doing. I think it's really cool, linking so many disparate stories together. When I ran into Hoid in the Mistborn Triology that earned a little smile from me!
  2. Hi Skaa, No worries, I'm a veteran of the interwebs, and am therefore quite accustomed to spam. I absolutely plan to read the Alloy of Law and Shadows of Self; I've got it on my list. But since I absolutely devoured the Mistborn, I thought I'd try something completely different, thus Saga of the Seven Suns. I just got a massive load of books ordered from book depository by my girlfriend for Christmas, including the rest of the SotSS series, the Ender's Game Quartet, Mr Sanderson's Way of Kings, Patrick Rothfuss' Name of the Wind and GRRM's Game of Thrones. So while I'm very much set for the forseeable future, I do have an eye on the Mistborn sequel series. Anything else that's crossed your path recently that you'd recommend? Thanks for the warm welcome
  3. I'm new here, but can I submit something? I've been working on an epic-fantasythat I was hoping to run by some people. First chapter only (it's a long one ). Also, is it Monday US time (I live in Australia, so it'd be Tuesday my time)
  4. Hello fellow readers and writers. I'm AuthorityHellas16 (or Michael, if you prefer) and I'm new around these parts. I live in Melbourne, Australia, and will officially become a doctor in two weeks (shudder). I love reading and writing (duh); I recently finished the Mistborn Trilogy (which seems to be a favourite around here) and am reading the Saga of the Seven Suns by Kevin J. Anderson, which I highly recommend. Other favourites include Robert Jordan and Salman Rushdie. Sci-Fi and Fantasy is where my heart is, but I'll read pretty much anything so long as it grabs me by the short hairs and drags me into a story I can enjoy. I've been writing forever, and thoroughly enjoy it. Most recently I've been working on a book series about an angel who rebels against his god and government but swears to fight the devil as well. No inter-species romance, I swear! I became aware of this place by toiling through the Writing Excuses archives. A brief peruse of some of the stuff around here, and I figured I'd like to join and become part of a huge writing group! Look forward to meeting you all
